"EMP!?"
"This kaiju can actually launch an EMP attack!?" Inside the helicopter, Marshal Stacker stared at the instruments that had completely failed, then looked out through the cabin door at the distant kaiju in disbelief.
"Shit!"
"Everyone out! Prepare to evacuate!" Watching the kaiju step over the ruins of the Wall of Life and approach them, he made a quick decision and ordered the pilot and guards out of the helicopter.
They hurried out of the cabin.
The soldiers held their guns at the ready and escorted Marshal Stacker away.
"Follow me, Raleigh!" Marshal Stacker did not forget to call out to the man he had come here to find.
At the same time, he prayed that the kaiju was not targeting their little group.
The Jaeger coming to support them would take some time to arrive. Until then, they could only fend for themselves.
"Xia, run!" Raleigh had originally prepared to evacuate alongside Marshal Stacker as well, but when he looked back and saw that Natsuki was not moving, he shouted.
Natsuki heard him.
But he still showed no intention of leaving.
Instead, he said something that left Raleigh at a loss.
"This kaiju... could it be all show?"
Natsuki narrowed his eyes at the rubble beneath Leatherback's feet, watching the destruction caused by its movements as he voiced his tentative guess.
The kaiju had made quite a commotion when it broke through the water.
But after coming ashore, none of its movements had left particularly deep impressions in the ground.
As far as Natsuki knew, a kaiju that looked to be over eighty meters tall should weigh at least fifty thousand tons. Yet the pressure it exerted on the ground as it moved clearly did not match that figure.
It seemed to weigh less than ten thousand tons.
That was strange.
Were the kaiju in this universe fundamentally different from the monsters I encountered before?
"Stop standing there, Xia!"
"Run!"
Raleigh's anxious calls from behind tugged at his thoughts.
"We can't outrun it at this distance."
"Whether this thing is all show or not, our only choice is to stop it here."
Natsuki did not turn around. His attention remained fixed on the enormous kaiju ahead, which bore features of both a gorilla and a turtle.
He watched it lower its body, muscles rippling beneath its black skin as it approached.
"Watching it a little longer would give me more information," he said, "but sacrificing most of the people here for that information clearly isn't worth it."
"Get out of here first. I'll buy you as much time as I can."
Natsuki gripped the black bracelet on his right wrist with his left hand, his expression serious. He had already made his decision.
Although he usually liked slacking off and took a flippant attitude toward work, he would never forget the justice in his heart when lives were truly at stake.
Of course, that justice was his own definition of justice-justice without restraints.
"What!?"
"Are you completely insane!?" Raleigh could not believe that this man could still say something like that after seeing the kaiju.
They had no Jaeger and no heavy weaponry. What was he going to use against it?
He could not imagine how anyone could fight a kaiju with flesh and blood alone.
He really is a lunatic!
Thud... thud, thud... thud, thud, thud!
Leatherback moved faster and faster, crawling across the ground on its arms and hind legs. The enormous sweep of its movements made it look as though it were moving in slow motion, but its actual speed was already beyond imagination. Its heavy footfalls rang out clearly.
The snow on the ground broke apart in waves beneath the impacts, sending flakes flying everywhere. Leatherback crossed the Wall of Life construction site and was almost upon them.
"It's coming! Damn it, run with me!" Raleigh grabbed Natsuki's arm and pulled with all his strength, only to find that he did not budge.
"Raleigh!" Marshal Stacker had already run some distance away. Seeing Raleigh still standing there, he shouted anxiously.
Thud!
Leatherback slammed its forearms into the ground. A violent tremor accompanied the thunderous impact as the entire kaiju leaped high into the air, opened its gaping maw, and lunged at Raleigh.
A dark shadow blotted out the sky as the kaiju's enormous body descended like a mountain!
The details of its body were reflected in Raleigh's eyes. At that moment, he tasted death once again.
But at the same time-
"Mission start."
As the words left his mouth, Natsuki looked up at the kaiju and thrust his right fist toward the sky, as though he intended to stop its falling body with that single fist.
A dazzling light burst from his body.
Immense energy gathered into a pillar of white light that shot into the sky!
Boom!
Before the kaiju could hit the ground, the pillar struck it head-on. Its descent stopped completely, and it was hurled back in the opposite direction!
Splash!
The impact sent Leatherback flying straight back into the waters of the Gulf of Alaska with an enormous crash.
Its massive body tumbled beneath the surface, sending waves surging everywhere!
Then-
Raleigh and Marshal Stacker both witnessed a sight they would never forget.
A giant emerged from the light, his right arm raised high as he stood upon the earth, like a god stepping out of myth!
The giant stood over fifty meters tall. His body was predominantly silver and looked like hard steel, with red lines adorning it, adding beauty while symbolizing life and vitality.
His eyes shone brightly, his limbs were long and slender, and the faintest hint of a smile touched his lips. A round blue crystal was set into his chest.
Strength. Order. Those were the words that sprang unbidden into their minds as they gazed upon him.
If they could use only one word to describe this giant, it would be-hope.
A giant who brought them hope in their darkest hour!
"My God...!" Raleigh gaped at the giant's back, his eyes filled with disbelief as his entire understanding of the world shattered.
The lunatic he had rescued from the snow really was an alien!
And he could even turn into a giant over fifty meters tall!
Has the world gone mad, or have I?
The kaiju disasters in this world were not natural occurrences, but a premeditated attack.
Over the twelve years since 2013, the multinational Pan Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) had gained a certain understanding of the kaiju, and had recently learned that they were biological weapons sent to Earth by aliens.
They called those aliens [Precursors].
Humanity did not know whether they came from another planet in this universe or from another dimension. All they knew was that the aliens had created a wormhole passage called the [Breach] at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, one that could not be destroyed by conventional means.
The Precursors sent kaiju to Earth through the [Breach] at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, attacking human cities and killing countless people.
The war between the Precursors and humanity had raged for twelve years, and even now, it only continued to escalate.
