Background / History
Natsuki spent approximately nineteen thousand years in the Land of Light and served in the Space Garrison for over ten thousand. An excellent student in his youth, he passed the demanding education required of Garrison members and later earned considerable merit. Unspecified circumstances eventually left him disengaged from work and approaching retirement 1 2 36.
He may have been human in a previous life, but those memories had largely disappeared by the time he could form lasting memories in his current life. His assignments took him elsewhere in the cosmos; the Pacific Rim Earth was his first visit to an Earth despite his familiarity with Garrison records about the planet 1 2 13.
Natsuki helped care for Ultraseven’s neglected son, taking him out to play and disciplining him when necessary. The child later made a serious mistake while seeking recognition and nearly faced exile. Natsuki initially blamed his own care for the outcome, but remembered the child with pride after he became a celebrated hero. Natsuki has no children of his own 16 20 21.
His past also includes personally destroying a civilization. The circumstances are not disclosed. He has abandoned an earlier name, likewise unrevealed in the provided passages 16 26.
Assignment to the Pacific Rim Universe
Hikari developed the Black Bracelet to correct an Ultra Warrior’s conduct and reawaken exhausted potential. With the Space Garrison chief’s approval, Natsuki was sent to investigate anomalous fluctuations in another universe while undergoing the device’s corrective program. Natsuki regarded the assignment as exile for his repeated lateness, absences, and refusal to work diligently 1.
He briefly lost consciousness after transport and awoke when Raleigh found him lying naked and unharmed in the snow. Having never developed the habit of wearing clothes in the Land of Light, he accepted Raleigh’s spare clothing before accompanying him toward the Wall of Life 1 2.
Appearance
- Human guise: A tall, lean young man with black hair and golden eyes; his apparent youth conceals his nineteen-thousand-year lifespan 10 13 20.
- Giant form: Silver and red, closely resembling the original Ultraman except for slight differences in body markings 6 8.
- Clothing: Initially wears Raleigh’s dark green coat; later favors floral shirts, baggy shorts, and flip-flops at the Shatterdome 1 18 23.
- Distinguishing item: An obsidian-colored bracelet on his right wrist, decorated with futuristic patterns and a central diamond-shaped crystal 4.
Personality
Natsuki is openly lazy, irreverent, and protective of his leisure. He treats his work habits as “minor flaws,” refuses Hikari’s corrective instructions, and tries to turn his assignment into a vacation. His requested compensation consists of food, clothing, lodging, and transportation rather than wealth or authority 1 13 15.
His easygoing behavior does not prevent decisive action when lives are threatened. He stays behind to protect Raleigh from Leatherback, supports Raleigh when other pilots ostracize him, and takes his investigation seriously once Albert reveals its multiversal implications. Human courage also moves him: Raleigh’s insistence on fighting beside him recalls Natsuki’s own youth 6 34 35 45.
He is neither uniformly patient nor easily manipulated. Chuck’s provocation prompts a violent response, while Albert’s probing earns a deliberate warning about his destructive power. Nevertheless, Natsuki releases Chuck, later says he holds no grudge, and accepts Albert’s cooperation after examining his motives and honesty 20 22 26 36.
Abilities & Skills
Ultra Physiology and Transformation
- Transformation: Uses the Black Bracelet to assume his giant Ultra form and can subsequently return to his human guise 4 6 10.
- Cold resistance: Lies naked in Alaska’s freezing snow without injury or apparent discomfort 1.
- Physical strength: Blocks Leatherback’s charge without moving and tears off both arms. The much lower mass and density of local Kaiju make them substantially weaker opponents than he initially expects 2 8.
- Human-form combat power: Retains enough strength, speed, and precision to defeat Raleigh effortlessly without transforming 23.
- Earth combat limit: Can fight while transformed on Earth for three minutes, after which he cannot transform again for a short period 26.
- Energy expenditure: Transformation and combat on Earth consume considerable stamina, leaving him exceptionally hungry 13.
Recorded Combat Techniques
The Black Bracelet lists these skills from Natsuki’s former Space Garrison records. Deregistered techniques that he can no longer use are excluded 15.
| Technique | Recorded Proficiency | Documented Use or Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Specium Ray | Intermediate 15. | Listed among his mastered beam attacks; no individually identified use is described in the supplied passages. |
| Ultra Slash | Intermediate 15. | Adapted into a lower-energy mechanical disc through Shaolin Rogue, killing Leatherback and Raijin 41. |
| Ultra Psychokinesis | Basic 15. | Moves sand, food trays, doors, and a laboratory globe 16 26 34 35. |
| Space Kenpo | Basic 15. | Used against Raleigh and applied through Shaolin Rogue 23 39. |
| Ultra Barrier | Basic 15. | Recorded as mastered; no specific deployment is described in the supplied passages. |
| Crescent Light Bullet | Basic 15. | Recorded as mastered; he later cuts through Kaiju with twin energy crescents 47. |
| ██ Specium Ray | Incomplete; sealed 15. | Unavailable in its recorded state. |
Space Kenpo
- Defeats Raleigh three points to zero, first countering staff attacks and then demonstrating an unarmed punch stopped just before Raleigh’s chest 23.
- Moves too quickly for Raleigh to follow; the stopped punch generates a gust that reaches the spectators 23.
- Reproduces martial-arts movements through Shaolin Rogue, including its opening stance and a blade-hand strike against Abomination 39 45.
- Describes combat training as a practical necessity for Garrison members who regularly undertake missions 23.
Psychokinesis and Perception
- Raises sand into a dust screen during Ultraseven’s jeep drill, though Ultra Vision allows the instructor to locate him 16.
- Floats and bursts a laboratory globe while keeping its fragments suspended, demonstrating that his time limit does not make him harmless 26.
- Uses telekinesis casually to carry six food trays and open or close doors at a distance 34 35.
- Senses Albert outside his room and later judges his statements against his vital signs 35 36.
- Recognizes the connection between Raleigh and Mako and identifies them as likely Jaeger partners 12 21 22.
- Ultraseven’s duplicate judges his telekinetic control insufficient to precisely guide Ultra Slash at the time of training 16.
Solo Jaeger Piloting
- Pilots Shaolin Rogue alone after studying a manual. He rejects a human copilot because his accumulated memories would overwhelm them in the Drift 27 30 39.
- Operates the third-generation Jaeger at a level comparable to the fifth-generation Eureka Striker; the base’s instruments cannot display his synchronization rate 39.
- Keeps shattered hand components arranged as a functioning fist and assembles arm components into an energy-edged mechanical Ultra Slash 38 39 41.
- Plans to fight his way to the Breach in Shaolin Rogue, conserving his transformation for the Precursors’ territory 37.
Flight and Large-Scale Destruction
- Can transform and fly into space, bypassing the need to remain on Earth during an attack 26.
- States that he cannot destroy a planet outright at his current strength, but could easily wipe out a civilization with a beam from space 26.
- Uses punches, kicks, rings of light, and energy crescents to destroy successive waves of Kaiju in the Precursors’ territory 47.
- Catches the disabled Eureka Striker in giant form and lands it safely 47.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black Bracelet — Hikari’s soul-bound device, incorporating transformation, identity verification, mission prompts, and rewards or punishments intended to reform Natsuki and restore his potential 1 4.
- Projects a translucent interface visible only to Natsuki 4.
- Detects fluctuations caused by the theft of spacetime source energy, but cannot directly locate transmigrators who have fully integrated into the world 27.
- Forces him into mind-space training despite his refusal. Training options include beam attacks, martial arts, and psychokinesis 15.
- Creates an energy duplicate of Ultraseven as an instructor; during the psychokinesis drill, transformation and other abilities are disabled 16.
- Shaolin Rogue — A silver-white, third-generation Jaeger repaired by Albert and fitted with a single-pilot control system. Initially requested as a loan, it is subsequently treated as Natsuki’s Jaeger with Albert’s confirmation 28 37 39.
Relationships
- Raleigh Becket — His first human acquaintance and close friend. Raleigh supplies clothing and offers food and work before believing his identity; Natsuki later saves him, supports him after the failed Jaeger test, and accepts his promise to fight side by side 1 2 6 34 45.
- Marshal Stacker — His principal human ally. Their agreement exchanges Precursor intelligence and practical hospitality for Natsuki’s assistance. Stacker later confides his illness and concerns about Mako to him 13 26 28.
- Ultraman Hikari — An old friend and creator of the Black Bracelet. Natsuki resents his role in the assignment and repeatedly defies the device’s instructions 1 4 15 34.
- Ultraseven / Dan Moroboshi — A longtime acquaintance whose energy duplicate conducts the jeep drill. Natsuki criticizes his parenting and suspects the harsh exercise is revenge for disciplining his son 16.
- Ultraseven’s son — A child Natsuki helped raise and became close to. His eventual success as a hero is a source of pride after Natsuki’s earlier guilt over his rebellion 16 20.
- Mako Mori — A Shatterdome acquaintance whose compatibility with Raleigh Natsuki recognizes early. He challenges Stacker’s overprotectiveness toward her 12 22 23.
- Herc Hansen — Welcomes Natsuki with gratitude for saving Stacker. Natsuki advises him that delayed affection and indulgence cannot resolve Chuck’s childhood neglect 18 20.
- Chuck Hansen — Initially hostile toward him because of his prejudice against aliens. After their cafeteria confrontation, Chuck comes to respect Natsuki, apologizes, and volunteers to accompany him into the Breach 20 45.
- Kony Albert — Initially a suspicious scientist attempting to assess or manipulate him; later a self-confessed transmigrator and provisional informant. Natsuki accepts his usefulness without abandoning his investigation of the organization behind him 26 35 36.
- Sasha and Alexis — Cherno Alpha’s pilots, rescued by Natsuki when Leatherback and Raijin threaten their cockpit 39.
- Crimson Typhoon’s crew — Battlefield allies who witness Shaolin Rogue’s extraordinary performance and help position the Kaiju for his mechanical Ultra Slash 38 39 41.
