When the old mayor arrived at the Holy Church office, which looked like a simple house, unease stirred in his heart. He had no idea what the honored priests wanted with him. For all his title as mayor of Moonbrook Town, he was merely a servant casually chosen by the nobles to tend their back garden. His fairly evenhanded dealings with others had helped him become mayor of this little town. In plain terms, without the townspeople humoring him and his ability to put in a few words with the noble lord, he was nothing.
Once they were inside, Locke noticed the old mayor's unease and gently reassured him. "Don't be nervous, Mayor. We asked you here because we've been observing things for some time and noticed quite a few shortcomings in the townspeople's farming methods. We'd like to set up a simple farmers' association here to help everyone improve their livelihoods."
After speaking, Locke personally picked up the kettle from the table and poured a cup of hot water for the still-bewildered old mayor.
Overwhelmed by the attention, the old mayor accepted the water and hurriedly bowed and nodded his thanks.
"Mayor, there's no need for that. If you keep acting this way, it means we haven't done our jobs properly. We've been here all this time, yet the people still treat us like strangers."
"No! Not at all! Honored priest... oh, Captain Locke, you've done very well. This old fool simply didn't understand what you meant." Seeing the young man look a little disappointed, the old mayor hurriedly waved his hands and explained. He truly was grateful to these young people. If they had not driven off that dangerous Bloodfang Boar, his days as mayor might well have been over. None of those fields belonged to him! If
