What's going on? Am I developing a split personality? Cheng Mingrui couldn't help wondering after losing part of his memory.

Still, he was probably the only person in this universe who could write Chinese characters, and the message had been marked as a main quest. It had to be important.

The Warhammer 40,000 universe was unlike his old Blue Star. He couldn't afford to disrespect gods and spirits. Worse still, he couldn't escape them even if he wanted to.

The most dangerous thing about transmigrating into the 40,000 universe might be attracting the Chaos Gods' attention with the forbidden knowledge in his mind, then having his soul dragged away for study.

Setting aside his research and finishing his final experiment notes, Cheng Mingrui gathered his boyz, preparing to put up a statue of Gork and Mork first.

On Euronia III, a noble ball was underway in the spacious, brightly lit hall of the Planetary Governor's luxurious residence.

Beautiful music filled the air. Exquisite, premium ingredients, prepared by the finest chefs and arranged on elegant plates, sat casually on tables off to the side.

Dressed in expensive clothing, the nobles either gathered around the edges of the dance floor to chat and cultivate relationships, or took to the floor in the center, holding hands and wrapping arms around waists to cultivate those relationships a little further.

Pex sat alone in a small corner. On his terminal was a letter of appointment from the Departmento Munitorum, proclaiming at great length that, for the Imperium and the Emperor, he was hereby appointed supreme commander of the Euronia System.

What it actually meant was that the Imperium's military resources were stretched desperately thin. He would have to rely on himself and organize a defense using the Euronia System's local forces.

As long as he served the Imperium faithfully, he would not be held accountable for the loss of the Glory Knight, which had been destroyed because of his command error.

What a fine blend of promotion and intimidation. If Pex still thought like an ordinary human, being treated this way after risking his life would surely have left him resentful of the Departmento Munitorum.

What interested Pex now was the information attached to the appointment letter. With a Tyranid Swarm Tendril Fleet approaching, quite a few Imperial warships might jump into the Euronia System to resupply. Nor could they rule out the possibility that, in a century or two, the Euronia System would become a war zone.

Perhaps recognizing just how difficult Pex's assignment was, the Departmento Munitorum planned to send a small corps of officers to support the Euronia System, led by Commissar Kester. Accompanying them would be a team of Adeptus Mechanicus priests carrying precious industrial production-chain modules.

The document asked Pex and the Planetary Governor to prepare for their arrival and cooperate over a working timeframe measured in centuries, transforming the Euronia System into a forge system as quickly as possible. There, they would produce powerful war machines to bring the Emperor's wrath down upon humanity's enemies.

The Hive's Tendril Fleet and Commissar Kester were both crucial pieces of information. Pex would have to plan carefully.

"Isn't this our system commander? Why are you drinking alone in a corner? Is something about the celebration ball I've arranged not to your liking?" Governor Cornwall approached with a beautiful young woman.

"Of course not, Governor. Your ball is both grand and elegant, and the guests are all distinguished members of the high nobility. It's just... spending so much money on a ball of this scale over a single letter of appointment leaves me overwhelmed by the honor." Pex immediately stood, inclining his head modestly.

"No, no, Commander Pex, you're far too polite and frugal. Someone from a great family like yours deserves grandeur and splendor. Besides, how could becoming supreme commander of a system be a small matter? We must celebrate. We absolutely must." Judging by his words, manner, and expression, Cornwall was clearly a little tipsy.

Pex frowned, then carefully concealed it. "Governor, I've been on Euronia III for three months now, yet the Expeditionary Force assigned to eliminate the Orks still hasn't departed..."

"You take everything too seriously," Cornwall interrupted him. "You've done nothing but work since arriving on Euronia III. You haven't taken a single break. Even if those Ork monsters pose a serious threat, training troops and producing weapons takes time."

"Time isn't on our side..."

"All right, all right. This is Trivis, my distant niece. Since you don't have a dance partner, the two of you can get to know each other. Enjoy the evening." After ushering the beautiful woman forward, Cornwall made an excuse and left.

Humans really are an arrogant, lazy race that never learns its lesson! The thought that his account had only frightened these human nobles for a few days made Pex even angrier.

With every day they waste, those green monsters grow more numerous and stronger!

"Mr. Pex, it's a pleasure to meet you." The blonde Trivis had mesmerizing eyes, her affectionate gaze so languid it almost seemed to draw silken threads through the air. Young and beautiful, she was among the loveliest women at the entire ball.

"A pleasure to meet you, beautiful lady." Pex answered Trivis with a gentle smile, bowed slightly, and raised her delicate hand like a gentleman, brushing his lips against its back.

Trivis's smile grew even more enchanting. "Meeting you, Mr. Pex, is sure to make this a wonderful evening."

She believed her charm could capture most men on an occasion like this. A system commander with limitless prospects, who also came from a great noble family, made an excellent target.

Pex sniffed and could clearly smell the hormones. Reproduction was indeed important to a species.

He slowly raised his half-filled glass of red wine. Through the crimson liquid, Pex could see Trivis and the brilliant starry sky behind her.

There was only one moon in the sky, now hidden by dark clouds. Like the tendrils of a swarm fleet, those clouds reached down from the stars, looming over the living creatures on Euronia III.

To ensure the Hive Mind received the biomass it desired, he needed to expand the cult and light a psychic beacon for the swarm fleet.

Pex drained the red wine, set down his glass, and wrapped his right arm around the beauty before him. Trivis wore a backless gown, allowing his hand to roam across a back as smooth as marble.

After gazing into each other's eyes for a second, they kissed. Wine that had not been swallowed trickled between their lips, flowing down Trivis's milky-white skin, over her neck and collarbones, along the curves of her chest, and toward her lower abdomen.

For the Great Devourer, the Ork monsters must be eliminated. These foolish humans are all resources to be used.

The officer corps dispatched by the Departmento Munitorum would be troublesome. According to the wisdom the brood nest had instilled in them, certain special groups among humanity were extremely difficult to defeat and eliminate. Destroying them would come at a tremendous cost.

Commissars were one of those special groups. They had to be taken very seriously.
