Mortarion spread his wings of death and flew overhead, looking at Hols with satisfaction at having such a new brother. Grandfather doted on Hols so much that his blessings made Hols stronger without corrupting him.
Truthfully, even Mortarion felt a little envious, but he would not resent Grandfather for his favoritism. Grandfather loved all his children, and his heart was generous.
Mortarion's failure in the Plague War had left large parts of the Garden of Nurgle scorched, yet Grandfather had not punished him harshly. That would have been inconceivable with any other god.
To repay Grandfather's kindness, Mortarion was naturally willing to fight for his will.
Once they defeated Slaanesh's followers, Mortarion wanted to build a closer relationship with Hols, then tell him about his ideals and his hatred. Perhaps Brother Hols would become another ally in his revenge against the Imperium.
With a powerful ally whose body could change endlessly and who carried so many of Grandfather's blessings, Mortarion believed he would surely win the next time he fought Guilliman.
The battle between the Nurgle Daemon Army and the Slaanesh Daemon Army had ended in victory for Nurgle. This offensive had gained considerable ground, turning part of Slaanesh's Realm of Pleasure into Nurgle's rotten garden.
Of course, across Commorragh as a whole, this was only a minor battle. It did not determine the final outcome.
The chaos of space and time prevented any of the Four Gods' forces from grasping the full layout of Warp-twisted Commorragh. Even if they drew a map, the shifting distortions would soon render it useless.
Commorragh was now difficult to enter and just as difficult to leave, unless one of the major powers could defeat the others and truly unify it.
