Floating Tortoise Mountain was thick with forest to begin with. The dense, heavy canopy was a large part of the reason the light was so dim.
It was a mass of black mist, black as concentrated ink, black enough to seize the soul.
Even the darkness of the ascended malevolent corpse seemed nothing compared to the tiniest fraction of this mist.
Several pale, gaunt arms seemed to lurk within it. At first glance, they were merely skin and bones, but another second of scrutiny revealed something more.
Their proportions differed from those of a normal person's arms. They felt less like human limbs than something far stranger.
Suddenly, a sliver opened in the mist, and Luo Bin saw a face.
The face was exceptionally broad, with half a mask covering the entire top of its head.
Orange-red fur mixed with orange-yellow, sleek and faintly oily, clung tightly down past the brow ridge.
The eyes were horrifying: upturned triangles with extremely high outer corners and sharp inner corners. The eyelids were covered in folds, their edges crowded with tiny fleshy nodules.
The bottoms of the vertical pupils were scarlet rather than bloodred, making them feel all the colder.
Strangest of all was the top of its head.
An ornament resembling a rooster's comb sat there, entwined with several tiny snakes.
The mist closed again, preventing Luo Bin from examining it any further.
Luo Bin even felt as though he had forgotten what the thing looked like. He had seen so much, its entire face, yet he could no longer recall its actual appearance.
Li Qingxiu's Yin Spirit retreated.
Everything happened far, far too quickly.
The half-formed Yin Spirit withdrew to Li Yunyi's shriveled body and plunged straight inside.
