Looking straight past the Night Watch, Luo Bin glanced once more at the Main Hall behind him, then turned and walked out.
"You have committed a grave offense. You cannot ascend to the heavens; only the Yellow Springs await you."
The Night Watch followed Luo Bin, floating rather than walking.
"Oh, damn my temper! Little Luo, why are you backing down? Beat him up!" Fourth Master Gray fumed.
Luo Bin returned to the first temple courtyard and stood quietly before the Opera Stage, looking at the bodies.
"Hmph. At least you know what's good for you. Running is useless." The Night Watch hovered directly in front of Luo Bin.
Luo Bin clasped his hands behind his back and closed his eyes.
Even Fourth Master Gray quieted at this, ceasing his incessant squeaking.
Time passed slowly, but Luo Bin could feel the temperature drop and the yin energy thicken from time to time. Clearly, Underworld Runners were returning with souls they had hooked.
They came back frequently. After all, plenty of people died in an entire city each day. With half the night wasted, all the souls awaiting collection had piled up.
Even as Luo Bin heard the rooster crow at dawn, another Underworld Runner returned with a soul.

In his place stood someone in a broad hat and gauzy robes, his face indistinct.

Footsteps sounded, and a slightly pale man in his fifties or sixties approached from behind the Opera Stage.
He, too, wore a Tang Suit and was a Yin-Yang Practitioner.
