Kong An sat on a cushion with his back to the hall doors, facing a statue of a deity.
A low table stood before him, bearing another statue: the Chief Seat Deity.
At that moment, fine cracks covered the Chief Seat Deity's statue. It looked ready to crumble at any moment.
Kong An held a drumstick that was white all over, with a glazed sheen. An equally white, highly polished wooden fish stood before the statue.
The steady knocking echoed through the hall as he chanted scriptures and mantras without pause.
Behind him, the Black Rakshasas' chanting overlapped completely.
At first glance, the entire hall was filled with solemnity.
Black City Monastery certainly possessed devotion. Few monks in all the Tibetan Lands could rival it. Yet what lay behind that devotion was enough to chill anyone to the bone.
Kong An chanted faster and faster. The Black Rakshasas followed, their mantras coming ever more densely, their voices rising louder and louder.
Boom!
The Chief Seat Deity's statue exploded into countless tiny fragments, striking Kong An in the face.
The chanting stopped abruptly.
Kong An stared fixedly at the tabletop, his young face filled with fury.
It had been a very, very long time since he had felt such an emotion.
Behind him, every Black Rakshasa wore an expression of intense fear and unease.
The other Sinpos looked down on their new monastery for a simple reason: it had no true Black Rakshasa Chief Seat and no Dibe Yum.
But with the Deputy Chief Seat and the Bright Consort entering the monastery, and Dibe Yum taking her rightful place as well, only the Chief Seat was missing. Once he arrived, Black City Monastery would be different.
