With his other hand, he eased Hu Jin's grip away from his neck. Hu Jin finally understood, carefully settled himself on the roof beam, and let go of Luo Bin.
Luo Bin watched the space below warily. Another evil spirit emerged from behind the Mountain God Statue.
The evil spirit paid no attention to its fellow writhing on the floor, nor did it look up. It simply walked toward the entrance of the Mountain God Temple.
At the entrance, the evil spirit bumped into the door with a dull thud. It pushed with both hands, but no matter how hard it tried, it could not open the door.
This door opened outward from where they had entered. For the moment, the evil spirit failed to work that out. An evil spirit from Cabinet Mountain would have pulled the door inward and walked out long ago...
But if the evil spirits in Cabinet Mountain Village had been impossible to kill by hacking at them, they probably could not have been refined into lamp oil. No one could possibly have survived.
Perhaps, in exchange for bodies that were nearly immortal, they had lost more of their reason?
In a sense, did that count as a kind of "fairness" toward the living?
At least there were always some ways for people to survive?
A minute or two later, another evil spirit crawled out from behind the Mountain God Statue.
"Last time, I saw at least a hundred of them come out of that old temple... With the doors shut here, they'll fill the whole place. If we'd kept going instead of coming out earlier, we'd have run into at least a hundred evil spirits in a
