The man hunched slightly, one hand clutching his neck and the other pressing against his throat.

Had those worms attacked him, or had they been inside him all along, only crawling out after his death?

A Gu-bound person was filled with Gu worms, their body reduced entirely to a vessel.
A living corpse could still move and retained a breath of life. It was essentially someone invaded by malicious resentment, unable to die or decay.
