When Chu Yilan opened his eyes, he thought he was dreaming.
Before him was a lavishly decorated hallway. A red carpet stretched from beneath his feet to the corner, and several paintings in equally rich colors hung on the walls. It was clearly an entertainment club.
It felt rather real.
Chu Yilan frowned and stared at the wall for a moment. Just as he reached out to touch it, someone bumped into him from behind.
It was a sleazy-looking man of about forty, his gelled hair gleaming under the lights. With his tiny eyes, he looked like a loach at first glance. Years of indulgence had etched an indelible greed into his gaze. Clearly, he was the sort who loved money above all else.
"Oh?" The man's eyes lit up, and he looked Chu Yilan over carefully. "Fresh merchandise?"
Chu Yilan didn't know exactly what he meant, but nothing good could come of that phrase.
The man stepped forward and patted Chu Yilan's arm. "Whoa! You're a looker, but you're way too solid. These days, the big shots all like soft bodies."
Even in a "dream," Chu Yilan wouldn't mind pounding the man into the wall.
Then more people crowded up behind him, all wearing cheap, mass-produced suits. None were bad-looking, but some wore powder, others makeup, and their collars hung open. They looked greasy. Chu Yilan couldn't understand why he would have such an utterly unrelated dream.
"You! Come along!" the man ordered, pointing at Chu Yilan.
Chu Yilan looked down and found that he, too, was wearing a suit. He stayed still, figuring he might as well wait to wake up on his own.
"I heard that superstar Shen Lian is here too?"
"Yeah! Zhang came here today specifically for him!"
