Chu Yilan's office was spacious, with gleaming windows and spotless surfaces. It still had a black-and-white design, its luxury edged with a certain severity. But the glass display cabinet just inside the door instantly caught Shen Lian's attention.
"Wait..." Shen Lian crouched down to look along the shelves. As he looked, he started laughing, then glanced back at Chu Yilan with eyes full of teasing. Chu Yilan ignored him.
Playing it cool, Shen Lian thought.
The cabinet held none other than the flowers Shen Lian had given him. They should have wilted long ago, but one or two of the loveliest blooms from each bouquet had been preserved as little specimens. Even the radish flower he had given Chu Yilan after the recording of Poseidon's Arrival that night sat in a corner.
When Sun Binghe came in and saw this, a flicker of amusement flashed through his eyes.
"Mr. Shen, your tea is ready."
"Thank you." Shen Lian stood and sat on the sofa. He shot Chu Yilan an amused glance, then pointed at the glass cabinet. "Assistant Sun arranged to have all these made, didn't he?"
Sun Binghe asked, "How did you know, Mr. Shen?"
"I guessed." Shen Lian leaned back, draping an arm across the back of the sofa, looking thoroughly pleased with himself. "I thought you'd thrown them away ages ago. Now that you've done this, maybe I should only send them on special occasions, or this little cabinet will fill up sooner or later."
Chu Yilan finally looked up, displeasure written all over his face. "If it fills up, I'll get another one. That's not your concern."
"All right, all right," Shen Lian drawled. "I'll send flowers that go well together. I guarantee they'll look good."
Chu Yilan could take no more. "Time for the meeting."
