Ning Ke: ?
Ning Ke: ????
Was the person he meant actually Ning Ke, disguised as his older sister?
Why couldn't he remember ever saying he didn't like fish?
He'd simply thought the Human-Faced Fish that the little blind guy, Lou Yunxiao, caught looked too hideous. He hadn't wanted Lou Yunxiao to know the river was full of those things, either, so he'd thrown them away once, twice, three times!
Good grief, had that tiny little gesture actually traumatized the kid?
What a waste of the fish he'd worked so hard to grill. He'd thought he could make up for Lou Yunxiao's disappointment in the Demon Abyss and satisfy his cravings, but it had all turned to ash...
Whatever. The brat just wasn't destined to enjoy good food.
"I've fulfilled your request. Isn't it time you told me where my sister is?"
Lou Yunxiao's voice brought Ning Ke back to his senses. He patted his hands together, found they were still greasy, and, rather than rush to answer Lou Yunxiao's question, simply held them out in front of him.
With a shameless grin, he said, "Wipe my hands for me first, would you?"
Though he was a man, he possessed a fox's seductive allure.
Years of practicing the Charm Art had given both his gaze and his voice a tempting hook.
Even ordinary speech sounded like coquettish pleading.
Lou Yunxiao eyed him with cold contempt and sneered. "Don't forget that your cultivation is sealed. Your Charm Art won't work on me."
He didn't wipe Ning Ke's hands. He merely formed a Cleansing Spell and tossed it onto him, calling that good enough.
Ning Ke shrugged, thinking that he'd only been speaking normally. He hadn't used any Charm Art at all; Lou Yunxiao was just being overly wary.
Once he was clean all over, Ning Ke rolled his eyes thoughtfully, pointed at the silk ribbon around Lou Yunxiao's wrist, and said, "That woman gave you this ribbon, didn't she?"
Lou Yunxiao instantly stiffened.
"So what if she did?"
"Don't glare at me. I'm giving you information." Ning Ke's mind raced, and he opened his mouth to spin a lie. "Since you fed me, I can point you toward a way to find her."
"What way?" Lou Yunxiao's expression grew serious despite himself.
"Go take a look at the Snow Snake Tribe in the Demon Realm. You might find a pleasant surprise~"
Ning Ke knew they were currently at the Sword Sect in the Human Realm, while the Snow Snake Tribe's territory lay tucked away in an incredibly distant, remote corner of the Demon Realm. If he could trick Lou Yunxiao into going there, he could stay alive here for a few more days.
"The Demon Realm..." Lou Yunxiao stared at Ning Ke's face, half believing him and half doubting him, trying to see through him.
But he found it utterly impossible.
Ning Ke looked like he'd given up on everything and didn't give a flying fuck. With someone like that, it was truly difficult to tell truth from lies.
After a long while, Lou Yunxiao strode toward the door, leaving him with one final threat. "Ning Ke, you'd better not be lying to me. If I don't find her, I'll come back and make you regret ever being born!"
Ning Ke grinned cheekily and waved goodbye.
"Take care, mighty sect master. I won't see you out~"
A gust of wind slammed the door shut. Ning Ke lay back down on the bed, sword intent rampaging through his body, the pain drawing sweat from his forehead.
Good food could soothe the pain for a little while, but not for long.
Ning Ke hadn't cried out earlier because he had his pride. No matter what, he had to act tough in front of Lou Yunxiao. That was his dignity as a man!
Once Lou Yunxiao was gone, he couldn't hold out any longer.
He kept hissing and gasping through the pain.
Ning Ke: Fuck this. I can't live like this anymore. Xiao Yuan!! Xiao Yuan!! I want Time Reversal! Do I still have a chance?!
[Of course. I've just been waiting for you to ask!] Xiao Yuan popped out at a leisurely pace and said, [The second mission will take longer to carry out. You'll need to prepare yourself mentally.]
Ning Ke kept hissing and gasping. The longer, the better! That way, I won't have to suffer here! That goddamn little bastard-this hurts like hell!
[All right, beginning the second round of Time Reversal. Countdown: 3, 2, 1.]
"My lord, this is the demon essence offered as tribute by the Tiger Tribe."
"My lord, this is the Spirit Hairpin offered as tribute by the Sparrow Tribe."
"My lord, this is the supreme-grade Spirit Pearl offered as tribute by the Merfolk Tribe..."
"My lord..."
Amid the repeated calls of "my lord," Ning Ke gradually lost himself.
He opened his eyes in perfect comfort and saw several rows of people standing in a magnificent hall, taking turns holding out their treasures as offerings to him.
He looked around. Golden pillars, golden seats, golden floor tiles, all edged and capped with jade and inlaid with gemstones of every color.
Tacky, but clearly filthy rich.
The kind of rich that made it look as though money was burning a hole in his pocket and he had nowhere left to put it.
At the sight, bumpkin Ning could only open his mouth and say, "Fuck."
He'd known from the original owner's storage ring that the man was loaded. But now that he'd arrived at the original owner's home turf, he realized he'd vastly underestimated this great villain's wealth.
With resources like these, he could have bought several Sword Sects in the Human Realm.
He thought of the dungeon he'd stayed in at Lou Yunxiao's place and the shabby little room he'd slept in.
Ning Ke clicked his tongue. It all seemed downright pathetic.
So just how out of his mind had this villain been to provoke the male lead? Wouldn't it have been better to stay in the Demon Realm and enjoy his comfortable life of luxury?
Still, complaints aside, his younger sister had written it that way, and as the actor, he had to follow the script.
There was no helping it.
The demon at the head of the group bowed to him. "My lord, these humble gifts are small tokens of the tribes' regard. Please do accept them."
"Mm, understood." Ning Ke used his fan to hide his provincial expression and glanced up at the wolf guardian beside him, who was also one of his trusted aides.
"Yin Feng, take everything into the inner hall."
Yin Feng answered in the affirmative and went to make the arrangements.
Ning Ke then glanced at the guardian on his other side, the cat woman Yueya.
He recalled that this girl was his rabid fangirl, and that she was also the one who had kicked the young Lou Yunxiao into the Demon Abyss back then.
He couldn't help chuckling.
"Yueya," he said, "take your pick of those things. If you like them, you're welcome to take them all."
Girls loved pretty things, and Yueya had been coveting the jewels and hairpins the Demon Clan had sent over for some time. At Ning Ke's words, her eyes immediately lit up, and she said sweetly,
"Thank you, my lord!"
Then, remembering something, she glanced around to make sure no one was nearby, leaned toward Ning Ke, and slipped a book into his hands. "My lord," she whispered, "this is what you wanted. The latest edition. I only got it from the snake demon yesterday, and I've brought it straight to you! Keep it safe, and don't let anyone see it!"
After that, she ran happily in Yin Feng's direction and vanished from sight in no time.
By then, everyone else in the hall had withdrawn as well, and Ning Ke curiously opened the item in his hands.
His smile instantly cracked.
Written there, plain as day, was:
-"My Days and Nights with the Daoist Supreme 2"
Fuck?!
