Black-and-White Bear ran through the town built of timber and stone, his long spear held high.
His war boots, made from three layers of tanned leather, pounded the flagstone road. Their steel-studded soles crushed stone underfoot, the impacts accompanied by a more ominous metallic hum.
It was the distinctive tremor of the three thousand six hundred refined-steel plates on his Mountain-Pattern Armor as he moved at full speed.
Three routed soldiers fled thirty paces ahead. They clutched weapons still dripping blood, wore ridiculous, expensive clothes thrown on haphazardly, and carried hastily tied bundles on their backs. As they ran, a gold necklace slipped through a gap in one bundle and swung back and forth.
Even while fleeing for their lives, these bastards refused to put down their loot.
They really would rather die than give up their money!
Black-and-White Bear gave it no further thought and quickened his stride. His brass-trimmed greaves smashed a clay jar beside the street, and amid the flying shards, his spearhead caught up with the rearmost soldier.
With just a light thrust and a tug, the soldier at the rear pitched forward onto the ground. His pack burst open, spilling valuables everywhere.
Black-and-White Bear did not spare the scattered money a glance. He trampled straight over it under the shocked gazes of residents peering from their windows and continued charging after the remaining enemies.
Realizing he could not escape, one of the soldiers, wearing a helmet, stopped and raised his Arming Sword. He yelled at his companion to stand and fight with him... well, the man he called to ignored him completely and ran even faster.
The one who fled had made a wise choice. The fool who stayed could not withstand even a single move from the charging Black-and-White Bear.
