"Charles is dead?"
When Chris heard the news, he was deeply saddened, even letting out a string of heavy sighs.
"What a shame... How could such a good man just die?"
Unlike Diu Ni Leimu, Chris did not dislike Charles. In fact, he was rather fond of him.
On this continent, Chris could definitely be counted among those least willing to hear of Charles's death. He might even have wanted Young Charles's father to live more than Young Charles himself did.
The reason was simple: Charles had never done anything bad to the Kingdom of Bagnia. On the contrary, some of his actions had brought it tremendous benefits.
The Minicia Kingdom's manipulation and invasion of the Kingdom of Bagnia had been the work of Charles's father, with little connection to Charles himself.
Charles's rise to power, on the other hand, had benefited the Kingdom of Bagnia immensely. Aside from the players' contributions, Charles deserved almost the greatest share of credit for the power Chris now possessed.
Charles was the proverbial deadweight teammate. On your own side, he was the greatest menace; on the enemy's side, he was the best teammate you could ask for.
His frenzied purge of the Minisia nobles in Treasure Island, for example, had been an incredible blessing for Chris.
As for Charles supposedly centralizing power, Chris really was not afraid of that. It would only mean another six months or a year of fighting. A longer war would give him a chance to clear out some trash.
As for the manpower lost in war... Wasn't that what the Blue Banner Army and the Railway Guard Corps were for?
What was there to regret? Until they had paid enough of a blood tax, Chris really could not trust them.
"Ah, what a shame..."
Chris sighed again.
Still,
