Out in the wilderness, lush vegetation flourished, and insects chirped freely among the trees.
Ke Meng parked his car in a wooded area on the eastern outskirts of Whale City. There was nowhere left for a car to drive, only waist-high weeds everywhere.
When he opened the door, Big Fur Ball squeezed out on its own and rolled around on the grass, getting covered in dirt and dust.
"Can't you take it easy and stop getting yourself dirty?" Ke Meng felt utterly dismayed as he watched the golden fur collect dirt and dust.
What was the biggest worry when keeping a dog? Having it roll around everywhere, come home covered in dust, and track dirt all over the floor.
At that moment, Big Fur Ball fully demonstrated what a dog's nature was: rolling everywhere and having a blast.
Before long, its golden fur was no longer so bright and clean.
Ke Meng lectured it. "Big Fur, do you know what the best pet dogs in the world are like? They keep themselves clean, are well trained and polite, care about their owners' feelings, and understand what their owners are thinking."
Hearing that, Big Fur Ball stopped and began reflecting on its life as a dog.
What was a dog's life supposed to be like?
And what were the best pet dogs like? In truth, Big Fur didn't know either.
It had never seen another dog. It was only a newborn and hadn't been in this world for long.
The dog's little brain got to work, but the more it thought, the less it understood.
In the end, it simply gave up thinking and started rolling around joyfully again.
"Woof, woof!" Big Fur barked happily as it rolled.
Rolling was a mode of movement it could hardly change. Walking on four legs was far too awkward, with all that fur getting in the way. Rolling was the best way for it to get around.
Of course, rolling inevitably left it covered in dust.
Ke Meng made it stop. Since he couldn't teach it to be a quiet pet dog, he would have to guide it toward a technical upgrade instead.
"Can't you control your fur freely? After you finish rolling, can you automatically shake all the dust, dirt, debris, and bugs out of your fur?" Ke Meng paused. "If you don't clean the dust off yourself, you'll lose a dinner."
At the mention of losing dinner, Big Fur immediately shook its entire body, sending a layer of dust rustling out of its fur.
Through coordinated movements of its fur, even the dust on top of its head was carried down to the fur underneath and flung away.
Every strand of Big Fur's fur was like a soldier, moving in orderly formation.
Big Fur Dog instantly turned back into a lustrous golden fur-ball plush toy, spotless from top to bottom.
Seeing how well behaved the dog was, and how successfully it had completed its technical upgrade, Ke Meng looked stunned.
What could he say? It certainly lived up to being an elite monster.
Two minutes later, Ke Meng set up a camera at the top of a steep slope, switched on his drone, and sent it into the air to check whether anyone was in the woods.
The drone quickly made a circuit around Ke Meng. It spotted no people or large animals, only small animals and plants.
Big Fur Ball reached the low ground at the bottom of the slope and heard Ke Meng shout, "Gigantification!"
Big Fur Ball let out a loud bark, and its body expanded, rapidly growing from 1.2 meters tall to two meters, three meters, four meters, then five meters!
At that point, Big Fur Ball was finally no longer a round ball, but a giant dog standing on all fours.
As its body grew, its fur grew longer too. Covered in golden fur, with two large, bell-like eyes shining with a faint golden light, it looked quite fierce.
Following Ke Meng's instructions, Big Fur swung a paw at a tree several meters tall, striking it with a thunderous thud.
The leaves shook violently, and the middle of the trunk splintered apart. Two seconds later, the upper half of the tree tilted to one side and slowly fell.
Powerful.
That swipe had carried far more force than any ordinary human could withstand.
After testing its strength, Ke Meng had Big Fur use Pear Blossom Needle Storm once more.
Big Fur followed his instructions, standing on one hind leg with its front legs clasped together and its right hind leg half raised. Its enormous fluffy tail spun along with its body, whirring faster and faster. In less than five seconds, it had become a high-speed blur resembling a double cone.
Fine golden needles shot from Big Fur's body, whooshing through the air and piercing everything around it.
Ke Meng didn't watch with his own eyes. Instead, he used the drone's camera to observe Big Fur's skill test.
The golden rain of needles covered almost the entire ring of trees around it.
Once Big Fur stopped spinning, Ke Meng walked down the slope himself. He could see needles embedded in the grass and trees, reflecting the sunlight with a somewhat dazzling glare.
Big Fur hadn't returned to its original form yet. It, too, was curiously surveying the destruction it had caused, with an inexplicably proud look on its face.
But Ke Meng pointed at its body. "How much fur did you lose?"
At those words, Big Fur froze.
It lowered its head to inspect its fur. Its once luxuriant coat now looked somewhat sparse. There wasn't as much fur as before; overall, it had lost nearly a tenth of it.
"Whine, whine." The dog whimpered pitifully. It never wanted to use Pear Blossom Needle Storm again. It hadn't expected a single use to fling away a tenth of its fur.
"It's fine. You can grow it back." Ke Meng chuckled cheerfully. This move of the dog's was truly something else. It used dog hairs as needles, and every one of them penetrated deeply.
As mentioned earlier, the dog's fur had already grown to dozens of centimeters in length. In its gigantic form, the longest hairs exceeded a meter, while even the shortest were twenty or thirty centimeters long.
Ke Meng saw dog hairs embedded in the bark of a large tree, with only a little of each taut hair needle's rear end showing.
Walking around behind the trunk, he found that the tips of the hairs had pierced right through it, protruding a full thirty centimeters.
Their penetrating power was terrifying. Compared with firearms, Big Fur could be called a living weapon.
If they ever encountered a robber or anything of the sort, the unlucky one would only be the criminal, never the dog.
"Can you absorb all this fur back into your body?" Ke Meng asked.
Leaving these dog hairs outside would be a bad idea. If someone saw them, they might use them as material for a short video about strange curiosities and post it online to attract viewers interested in the bizarre.
Big Fur barked, returned to its fur-ball form, and began rolling around.
Wherever it rolled, across the grass or beside the trees, the dog-hair needles embedded in plants, soil, and stones disappeared.
Ke Meng knew Big Fur was eating its own fur.
"Fling your fur away, eat it back up yourself, and then grow it back afterward. Brilliant." Ke Meng had found the highlight for his review.
Big Fur Dog shuddered for no apparent reason. Its owner seemed to be thinking about something very frightening.
