The dead Centaur was the chief's own son and his designated successor. Had nothing gone wrong, Bo Yi would have been the finest young Centaur in the tribe, inheriting leadership and carrying forward their glory.
Yet all of that had come to nothing. A father had outlived his son.
Tears filled the chief's eyes, and anger consumed him, but his reason remained intact.
The moment he saw his son's deathly appearance, he had sensed a forewarning of indescribable horror-a warning against prying too readily.
But he would not bow to that feeling.

"Let me see who killed you," the chief murmured. He took a bone necklace from his Storage Item and put it around his neck, then took out two bracelets and slipped one onto each wrist.
Next, he took out a strange fruit shaped like a person, though its torso bore a peculiar face.
It was a distinctly human face, yet belonged to an unknown race.
Chief Bo Ma ate only a small piece of the ginseng, roughly one-fifth of it.
As he ate the ginseng, its tightly closed eyes opened, and it let out piercing screams.
The Centaurs behind him covered their ears, but they couldn't block out the demonic sound.
