Over the past few days, he had watched Chen Mu's every detail at every moment. Ever since his last probe, he had been certain Chen Mu came from Cross Night, so his observations had grown even more meticulous. He wanted to know exactly how Cross Night's Card Adepts differed from other Card Adepts. What set those who had undergone such brutal, humanity-warping training apart from ordinary Card Adepts?
Yet his observations had failed to provide the answers he wanted. Instead, they had only piled more doubts onto his heart.
He had discovered something extremely strange.
Chen Mu's strength seemed nowhere near as formidable as it had been during their fight that day. A Card Adept's strength revealed itself in many small details. Timing, for example. All experts were exceptionally sensitive to timing, and that sensitivity made them behave very differently from ordinary people in many situations. Everyone reacted instinctively to danger. Card Adepts were no exception, but their reactions were more professional and faster.
Chen Mu, however, was different. His reactions were fast, but they seemed disorganized, like those of a Card Adept who had never received orthodox training. Bo Wen had also noticed another peculiar point: Chen Mu's reactions were far slower than they had been during their fight.
During that battle, Chen Mu had taken only 0.6 seconds to switch cards, leaving an indelible impression on Bo Wen. Since then, however, he had never switched cards in less than a second. What Bo Wen found most unbelievable was that all these reactions seemed natural rather than feigned.
Once, twice, three times...
As the instances accumulated, Bo Wen naturally grew suspicious. Chen Mu displayed none of the brilliance an expert unwittingly revealed. Whenever danger arose, Bo Wen was the one who acted; Chen Mu had never lifted a hand.
