Background / History
Visit to the Ning Family Base
Bo Wen comes from the powerful Dongxing Ning Family. The Amey Ning Clan Leader praises his intelligence since childhood and treats him as a valued adviser, seating him beside himself and asking his opinion on consolidating control of Dongshang Guard City. Bo Wen responds respectfully, saying his father instructed him to follow the Clan Leader’s directions 110.
During the visit, Bo Wen examines a Rain Shuttle Card II and recognizes its exceptional capabilities. He proposes sending half the Amey branch’s supply to his father as a birthday gift and receives permission to meet its maker, Chen Mu, and investigate his background 110.
Recruiting Chen Mu
The Rain Shuttle Card II and Hundred Blades convince Bo Wen that Chen Mu can consistently produce unusually capable three-star cards. Rather than treating him as the maker of a single valuable invention, Bo Wen begins considering how to acquire his services for Dongxing Ning 121.
Bo Wen commissions an outstanding three-star card in exchange for the rare seven-pen Weak Water set. Chen Mu delivers the Bloodedge Card, whose power and rapid firing impress him. Bo Wen appreciates Chen Mu’s directness and lack of arrogance, but a fleeting darkness in the young crafter’s eyes alarms him. Suspecting a connection to old family records, he urgently orders his younger sister, Ning Jia, to investigate the Library Pavilion 123 128.
Pursuit into the Jungle
Bo Wen confronts Chen Mu during his escape from the base and attacks him with the newly purchased Bloodedge Card. When precision attacks fail to settle the fight, he unleashes Thousand-Swallow Wave Blades, devastating the surrounding homes. Chen Mu survives, and the confrontation leaves both men’s Wrist Devices depleted of energy 130 131 132.
After Chen Mu escapes toward the forest, Bo Wen pursues him with Cheng Ying. He reveals his identity as Dongxing Ning’s heir, offers her better opportunities for helping kill Chen Mu, and supplies the Green Ring shield card. Although he calls for reinforcements and leaves route markers, torrential rain and flooding erase the trail, cutting the pursuers off from their expected support 134 135 137.
Bo Wen believes Chen Mu belongs to Cross Night, whose enmity with the Ning Family he considers irreconcilable. This is his interpretation of Chen Mu’s abilities, not a confirmed affiliation 150 160.
Forced Cooperation and the Village
Lost deep in the jungle, Bo Wen and Chen Mu remain awake for five hours because neither trusts the other enough to sleep first. Cheng Ying refuses Bo Wen’s request to kill Chen Mu, arguing that all three need one another to survive. Bo Wen accepts a temporary truce and promises not to attack Chen Mu before they escape the jungle 139.
The group encounters Liduhong after Bo Wen kills a Raging Iron Lizard threatening him and Cheng Ying. Hoping the boy’s village can provide a route out, they agree to escort him home. When the village appears potentially hostile, Bo Wen and Chen Mu cooperate, keeping Liduhong as leverage and improving Cheng Ying’s combat card before approaching the settlement 142 150.
At the village entrance, Bo Wen blocks Liduhong’s release until the visitors receive assurances of safety. The elder ultimately welcomes them after identifying Chen Mu as the person who injured Xiao San. Bo Wen’s subsequent proposal for cooperation receives little interest, while Wei’a’s surveillance prevents him from acting freely against Chen Mu 152 153 160.
Leadership and Death
During the village’s divided journey, Bo Wen and Cheng Ying travel with the third division. Bo Wen’s strength and meticulous planning make him the effective leader of roughly two hundred elite warriors, earning their deep admiration 166 172.
That authority collapses when Alfonso upholds Elder Kit’s appointment of Chen Mu as their leader. Bo Wen briefly considers killing Chen Mu immediately, but Wei’a’s cold stare stops him 172.
Bo Wen later suffers dozens of wounds from energy beams that penetrate his shield. Chen Mu subsequently sees his lifeless image on a light screen. Despite their hostility, Chen Mu acknowledges that Bo Wen had been the strongest of their original trio in both individual combat and strategy 176 177.
Appearance
Bo Wen is a handsome young man whose refined bearing, composed smile, and careful dress make his wealthy upbringing apparent 110 123.
- White clothing distinguishes him during his introduction beside the Amey Ning Clan Leader 110.
- Meticulous grooming: even while traveling through the jungle, he washes his face thoroughly every day and remains the cleanest member of the group 142.
- Cold expression in serious moments: his familiar smile disappears when concentrating on a card or privately assessing a threat 110 128.
Personality
Bo Wen combines polished courtesy with deep calculation. He greets others warmly, observes subtle changes in their behavior, and values Chen Mu’s straightforwardness partly because his usual associates obscure their intentions. His initial recruitment approach favors incentives over coercion, reflecting his belief that genuine loyalty is more useful than forced allegiance 110 128.
His refinement does not prevent ruthlessness. He destroys occupied homes during his attack on Chen Mu and repeatedly considers killing him whenever cooperation seems unnecessary. Even after accepting a truce, he retains his resentment and watches for opportunities to eliminate his rival 132 139 146 172.
Bo Wen has strong willpower but limited experience of life-threatening hardship. He briefly loses composure when confronted with the possibility of dying in the jungle, then quickly recovers. Accustomed to arena combat and victory through superior strength, he finds Chen Mu’s willingness to injure himself disturbing 135 139.
Abilities & Skills
Wave-Blade Control
Bo Wen specializes in ranged wave-blade attacks, combining precise perception control with patient targeting 130 131.
- Selects the three-star Bloodedge Card while flying because he prioritizes accuracy and controllability over raw destructive power 130.
- Waits for an opening rather than firing when he cannot reliably lock onto Chen Mu 131.
- Releases three wave blades almost simultaneously into the same point, concentrating their damage enough to penetrate a Raging Iron Lizard’s scales 142.
- Uses a suspended scarlet blade to carve a bluestone bowl, demonstrating control and understanding of wave-blade cards beyond Chen Mu’s at that time 150.
- His three-blade attack inspires Chen Mu’s Triple Strike with the Tail-Shedding Shuttle Card 147.
Thousand-Swallow Wave Blades
Bo Wen can wield the four-star Thousand-Swallow Wave Card’s strongest attack, producing a dense barrage over a broad area 132.
- Releases six hundred swallow-shaped blades simultaneously; the card itself can produce up to one thousand 132.
- Sustains the barrage for fifteen seconds, exceeding his usual performance and demonstrating first-rate Card Adept capability 132.
- The attack exhausts his available energy and severely strains his perception, leaving him pale and panting 132.
- Its indiscriminate coverage destroys nearby homes and leaves little room to evade 132.
Assessment, Diplomacy, and Leadership
Bo Wen’s education and judgment extend beyond combat 110 161 172.
- Recognizes exceptional card performance and identifies Chen Mu’s repeated innovations as strategically valuable 110 121.
- Understands prominent and historical surnames throughout the Tianyou Federation as part of his preparation for high society 161.
- Uses status, promised advancement, and equipment to secure Cheng Ying’s assistance 135.
- Negotiates with the village elder while retaining Liduhong as leverage 152.
- Earns the obedience of elite village warriors through personal strength and meticulous planning 172.
Combat Limitations
- Close-range vulnerability: after exhausting his cards, he lacks Chen Mu’s practical physical-combat experience and reacts poorly to a sudden charge 132 133.
- Dependence on specialist support: he leaves jungle tracking to Cheng Ying 137.
- Limited evasion against concentrated fire: his ranged fighting style leaves him badly wounded when energy beams overwhelm his shield 176.
- Difficulty targeting extreme speed: after seeing Wei’a move, he doubts he could hit him at full speed 153.
