Lu Xiaoru lay buried in the snow, her exhalations so cold they seemed capable of turning to frost. Yet she had forgotten the bone-piercing chill. She narrowed her eyes as far as she could, staring fixedly at the group rapidly approaching them.
She did not use her perception. Neither did anyone else here. This was a trick they had learned from the boss and Wei'a. Without using perception, they were less likely to alert the enemy, unless an opposing Card Adept had perception characteristics similar to the boss's.
But that possibility was vanishingly small.
Her eyesight was nothing exceptional. In the darkness, even with the light from the battle on the other side of the mountain, she could make out only the vaguest silhouettes. The others were no better, apart from Wei'a and the boss. Wei'a made sense-he was an Uncard Flow expert. But the boss? He was a Card Adept too, so why was his eyesight so formidable?
She shook her head, brushing aside that absurd thought. Who could ever unravel all the mysteries surrounding the boss? In any case, she was used to it. Whatever unexpected feat he performed now, she would not be astonished.
There were eleven of them. Heta had been left at the Starfish Fortress; he was not suited to fighting in these circumstances. One-Brow, not far away, was superbly concealed. Although they were only two meters apart, she could not detect the slightest trace of his presence. He certainly lived up to his background in this line of work.
The enemy moved extremely fast, silent as a mass of phantom images.

Lu Xiaoru felt a slight chill of apprehension. The enemy flew so close to the ground that they seemed to be gliding. Hugging the ground helped conceal their
