Background / History
Tang Hao and Tang Xiao traveled the continent together in their youth and took blacksmith rank examinations. Tang Hao became a Divine Craftsman, placing him among the continent’s three divine blacksmiths alongside Lou Gao and Tai Tan 10 15.
His wife, Ah Yin, was a Blue Silver Emperor who took human form. She sacrificed herself for him shortly before reaching level seventy, leaving behind a seed and a hundred-thousand-year right leg soul bone. Her surviving plant form remained in a cave behind a waterfall near Holy Soul Village 23.
Spirit Hall declared Tang Hao wanted for consorting with a soul beast and betraying humanity. He survived months of pursuit by Qian Daoliu but was expelled from the Clear Sky Sect. He subsequently lived in Holy Soul Village with his son, Tang San, drinking heavily and working as a blacksmith 6 22 24.
Appearance
- Wears a tattered black robe and has unruly hair; Tang San remembers his face beneath a thick beard 15 19.
- Has a broad, towering frame, with sallow skin and bulging arm muscles 17.
- Initially appears hunched and cloud-eyed. Upon leaving Holy Soul Village, his back straightens and his gaze regains its sharpness 15.
Personality
Tang Hao’s attachment to his family persists beneath his withdrawn, grief-stricken manner. He calls himself a “broken man” but leaves Holy Soul Village because he believes Tang San needs his protection. Even when mortally wounded, his thoughts return to his inability to protect his son 15 18.
His confidence in his strength becomes destructive during the Gengxin raid. He assumes he can seize Runic Forging and leave freely, torturing Lou Gao, gravely injuring the other smiths, and destroying their weapons. His intended reward is reconciliation with the Clear Sky Sect for himself and Tang San 17 18.
Defeated, he shows little fear of death or humiliation and asks to be killed. His composure breaks only when Lou Xu threatens his loved ones, particularly Tang San, prompting him to struggle despite his ruined body 18.
Abilities & Skills
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang Hao’s tool martial soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, described as the strongest Clear Sky Hammer of his generation 18.
- Soul rings: Yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, black, red; the ninth is a hundred-thousand-year ring 17 22.
- Clear Sky True Body: Activated through his seventh soul ring, producing an enormous hammer phantom 17.
- Strength specialization: His fighting style centers on overwhelming physical force and two-handed hammer strikes 17 18.
- Limit: A direct strike from Clear Sky True Body leaves only a shallow mark on Xiong Jun’s chest 18.
Great Sumeru Hammer

- Uses All Nine Rings Detonate as his final defense against Xiong Jun’s Sky-Rending Claw 18.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Departure from Holy Soul Village
Three days after Tang San leaves with Old Jack, Tang Hao closes his forge and departs to protect his son. In a Silves City tavern, news of Lou Gao’s Runic Forging draws his attention. Remembering Tang San’s interest in forging, he sets out for Gengxin City 15.
Night Raid and Death
Tang Hao breaks into Lou Gao’s office at night, gravely injures Lou Gao and his four disciples, melts newly forged Runic Weapons, and seizes their manuscripts. His goal is to present the method to the Clear Sky Sect and secure readmission for himself and Tang San 17 18.
Xiong Jun forces the battle outside. Neither Clear Sky True Body nor the detonation of all nine rings can stop his Sky-Rending Claw. The attack critically damages Tang Hao’s martial soul, tears open his body, and aggravates his old injuries 17 18.
Lou Xu temporarily cauterizes Tang Hao’s ruptured windpipe so he can speak, then names his loved ones and threatens to collect the debt owed for the five injured smiths. Tang Hao dies shortly afterward, and the cracked Clear Sky Hammer dissolves into motes of light 18.
Aftermath
- Lou Xu displays Tang Hao’s corpse on a wooden frame outside the Blacksmith Association; rumors reach Tang San and Grandmaster 18 19.
- Tai Tan’s attempt to recover the remains ends with his own death 21.
- The Clear Sky Sect abandons recovery and retaliation, choosing to remain hidden and rebuild its strength 22.
- Qian Daoliu describes the Blacksmith Association’s actions as avenging Qian Xunji’s death at Tang Hao’s hands and arranges an Elder Token for Lou Gao 23.
- Lou Xu later takes Ah Yin and her hidden soul bone, then deliberately lets Tang San see her plant form while treating Tang Hao’s debt as unresolved 23 24.
