Background / History
Interest in the New Students
Mu En keeps a low profile at Shrek Academy, where most freshmen do not recognize his identity. After observing Wang Dong’s farewell to Huo Yuhao, he briefly considers intervening in their apparent puppy love but decides to leave them alone. Wang Dong then approaches him with a respectful greeting and concern for his health, earning his goodwill 2.
That night, Mu En senses a faint higher-dragon aura from the boys’ dormitory powerful enough to make his own martial soul tremble. He initially dismisses the fleeting sensation as an illusion. By the time Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao cultivate together in a secluded grove, however, he has begun secretly monitoring Wang Dong. Recognizing their exceptionally compatible Martial Soul Fusion convinces him that both students deserve closer attention 4 15.
Intervention and Reform
When Wang Dong challenges Shrek’s refusal to grant Huo Yuhao full core disciple status, Mu En interrupts the confrontation through Spiritual Manifestation. Rather than punish Wang Dong, he publicly endorses his criticism, grants Huo Yuhao official core disciple status, and invites both students to become his disciples 23 24.
Mu En has already recognized Shrek’s decline: the academy remains conservative while the Body Sect rises, and its concern for reputation overshadows student development. He sees Wang Dong’s outspoken criticism as an opportunity to begin reform and asks the younger generation to help carry that responsibility. His intervention also prevents the two gifted students from leaving the academy 24 25.
Personal Instruction and the Evil Fire Incident
After both students accept, Mu En takes them to Sea God Lake and apologizes privately for their treatment. He begins individualized instruction, teaching Wang Dong Sovereign’s Descent and giving Huo Yuhao spiritual cultivation techniques and access to a spiritually rich area of the lake 24 25.
During Ma Xiaotao’s Evil Fire crisis, Mu En arrives as Wang Dong’s blood suppresses her flames and begins transforming her martial soul. He tells the assembled elders not to interfere rashly and assures them that he is ready to intervene if necessary 26.
Appearance
- White hair and an aged, kindly face, with cloudy eyes that become sharp when something catches his attention 15 23 24.
- Unassuming presentation: his low-profile manner conceals his position from most new students 2.
- Palm-leaf fan and reclining chair: he is shown fanning himself outdoors and resting in a recliner, including beside Sea God Lake 2 4 25.
- Ethereal manifestation: his spiritual projection appears as a phantom figure seemingly emerging from the void 23.
Personality
Mu En is gentle and indulgent toward students, accepting youthful energy rather than treating it as misconduct. He appreciates sincere courtesy and responds warmly to Wang Dong’s unsolicited greeting 2.
He is also willing to acknowledge institutional failure. Despite his authority, he apologizes both publicly and privately, accepts criticism of Shrek’s system, and promises change. As a mentor, he explicitly values Wang Dong’s courage and Huo Yuhao’s perseverance and gratitude, while respecting their right to keep personal secrets 24 25.
Abilities & Skills
Radiant Sacred Dragon
Mu En possesses a top-tier dragon martial soul that makes him exceptionally sensitive to draconic auras 4.
- Detects the faint pressure of a higher dragon near the boys’ dormitory 4.
- Recognizes that Wang Dong’s dragon lineage surpasses his own martial soul in quality 25.
- His martial soul is not immune to superior bloodline pressure; the initial aura makes it tremble 4.
Sovereign’s Descent
A self-created signature technique that combines martial soul, aura, and willpower to overwhelm an opponent’s fighting spirit 25.
- Applies willpower suppression, rather than merely overpowering an opponent’s soul power 25.
- Mu En’s demonstration leaves Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao nearly unable to breathe beneath its pressure 25.
- At its highest level, it can force an opponent to their knees with a glance 25.
- He teaches it to Wang Dong because it complements the tyrannical nature of his dragon bloodline 25.
Spiritual Manifestation
Mu En can appear as an ethereal spiritual projection, an ability identified as belonging to the strongest experts 23.
- Uses it to intervene in the confrontation between Wang Dong and Shrek’s senior officials 23.
- Re-materializes beside his reclining chair after the public intervention 24.
Spiritual Guidance and Talent Assessment
Mu En identifies unusual abilities even when a student’s apparent rank or soul ring suggests otherwise 15 24 25.
- Recognizes the high compatibility of Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao’s Martial Soul Fusion 15.
- Notices that Huo Yuhao’s Spiritual Detection Sharing is far beyond what an ordinary ten-year soul ring should provide 24 25.
- Transfers a spiritual cultivation chant directly into Huo Yuhao’s mind through a touch to her brow 25.
- Prescribes morning and evening practice, supplemented by two daily hours in a spiritually rich part of Sea God Lake 25.
Relationships
- Wang Dong — Personal disciple. Mu En admires his courage to challenge authority, supports his criticism of Shrek, and teaches him Sovereign’s Descent 24 25.
- Huo Yuhao — Personal disciple. Mu En grants her full core disciple status and provides specialized instruction suited to her mental-attribute martial soul 24 25.
- Xuan Zi — Deputy Pavilion Master. He bows to Mu En and, despite reservations about the sudden disciple appointments, respects his decision 18 23 24.
- Yan Shaozhe and Du Weilun — Senior academy officials who defer to Mu En’s authority during the core disciple dispute 23 24.
- Ma Xiaotao — Academy student whose blood-induced martial soul transformation Mu En supervises, keeping the other elders ready but restrained 26.
