On Blue Star, Zhang Fei was an ordinary student who had just completed his college entrance examinations. He celebrated with friends through three consecutive all-nighters at an internet café, then collapsed while leaving. Upon waking, his soul occupied the body of three-year-old She Fei, who had been struck by lightning while sheltering beneath a tree 1.

She Fei was She Long's orphaned grandson and had been living in Spirit City under an old steward's care. Because She Long was stationed in Heaven Dou City protecting Qian Renxue, he arranged for the surviving child to enter the Crown Prince's Residence. Qian Renxue, disguised as Xue Qinghe, took him in under the pretext of adopting an orphan and renamed him Zhang Fei 1.

For the next three years, Zhang Fei lived comfortably under their protection, reading about martial souls and obtaining Spirit Hall's rare Immortal Herb Catalogue.
