Ch. 1How did I become an Astartes?

Zhou Evan was transported from modern Earth into the Warhammer 40K universe and awakened as a three-meter-tall Primaris Astartes of the Green Templars. After learning the history of the Imperium and reaching the Chapter’s training ground aboard its flagship, he heard the ship rumble and wondered whether it was under attack.

  • Zhou Evan went to buy an aircraft carrier model for his roommates, fell into an illuminated opening, and lost consciousness.
  • Chief Apothecary Risgen welcomed Yifeng after he emerged from a mechanical tank as a Primaris Astartes and sent him for an examination.
  • The examination machine flooded Yifeng’s mind with the history of humanity and the Imperium, while he struggled to keep his own beliefs and memories.
  • Risgen found Yifeng’s readings normal except for unusual brain activity and height, then let him choose the name Yifeng.
  • Yifeng read that he stood 3.01 meters tall, learned he belonged to the White Scars successor Chapter Green Templars, and realized he was aboard its flagship.
  • The floor of the empty training ground shook, and Yifeng wondered whether the ship was under attack.

Ch. 2Recruit instructor Florisi

Yifeng joined the Green Templars’ recruit company as Rookie Thirteen, impressed Instructor Florisi with his tactical questions, and showed surprising fighting instincts in sparring. As he learned how isolated and poorly equipped the Chapter was, he hoped their remote position would keep them unnoticed.

  • Florisi welcomed Yifeng into the Tenth Company as Rookie Thirteen and led the recruits through a review of their strike against a Chaos transport.
  • Yifeng questioned the enemy vessel’s origin, destination, cargo, and escorts, prompting Florisi to explain that the transport was likely heading to a hidden Chaos armoury on the system’s third planet.
  • Florisi received confirmation that the Third Company had destroyed a Chaos armoury, then took the recruits for blessings and hand-to-hand training.
  • Yifeng struck Rookie Five Gajie with an instinctive elbow counter, drawing the recruits’ attention, and continued sparring with him until both were bruised.
  • Orka and Gajie told Yifeng that the Green Templars were stranded beyond the Great Rift with two other depleted Chapters, few loyal worlds, and only one Strike Cruiser.
  • Yifeng feared that the isolated, under-equipped Chapters could not withstand serious attention and hoped their remote corner of the Imperium would remain unnoticed.

Ch. 3Here came the happiest race in the galaxy

Yifeng graduated into the Green Templars’ Fourth Company and prepared with his squad to deploy against an Ork invasion. The Shadow Venom Blade Chapter requested reinforcements for Atris, and the Green Templars hurried there as Yifeng’s squad boarded a Drop Pod heavily laden with weapons and ammunition.

  • After ten years of training, Yifeng donned his Power Armour, graduated as an Astartes, and reported to the Fourth Company’s Third Combat Squad, where Gajie introduced him to William and the others.
  • The Shadow Venom Blade Chapter discovered Orks near the Atris colony and requested aid because its depleted forces could not contain the threat alone.
  • Chapter Master Deyika recalled the Green Templars, and the Blessed Forest set course for Atris with thirty-one hours remaining until arrival.
  • William equipped his squad with an enormous supply of weapons and ammunition, while Yifeng questioned why detonators had been strapped to his helmet.
  • After receiving the Chaplain’s blessing, William’s squad hurried into a Drop Pod before the other warriors could see their embarrassing loadouts.

Ch. 4Head-on clash

Chapter Master Deika sent the Green Templars to reinforce the besieged survivors on Atris, where Tristy’s forces had retreated to the northern fortress after the Orks devastated the planet. Evan’s squad landed there and drove back the Orks, while Evan began questioning whether humanity should rely on the Emperor to save it.

  • Chapter Master Deika ordered the Green Templars to reinforce the northern military base and join the Storm Will Chapter in a counteroffensive after nine hours.
  • President Hammers ordered an uncoordinated assault on the Ork crater; the Orks ambushed the eighteen million soldiers, killing millions and driving the survivors back to the northern base.
  • Tristy fortified the northern base and took in refugees while the Orks conquered much of the planet and the defenders’ ammunition dwindled.
  • The Green Templars arrived in drop pods, and the soldiers at the northern fortress welcomed them as saviors.
  • Squad Leader William ordered his squad to build its position atop a mountain peak so the defenders could see them fight, and Gajie killed Ork bosses until the nearby attackers routed.
  • Evan kept his doubts to himself as he wondered why humanity should wait for the Emperor to save it instead of taking up arms and fighting for itself.

Ch. 5The Great Warlord

Evan proposed a defensive firing plan that helped the Green Templars hold the Arctic fortress, while Mistanbol’s Orks captured Hive City Mikya and the Manufactorum District before facing a setback. With the fortress holding for now, Evan remained bored at his post as Milanko Hive City struggled against the Ork invasion and its defenders waited for the Storm Will.

  • William suspected a cunning Ork warlord was directing the attacks and ordered the squad to review its defenses and ammunition.
  • Evan proposed a triangular firing position with heavy weapons on the summit, additional firepower on the cliff, and Astartes defending the wall; William and the squad agreed.
  • Mistanbol used a diversion and Boomblasta’s escape from a weapons factory to overwhelm Mikya’s defenses, and the Orks captured the hive and later the Manufactorum District.
  • The Shadow Venom Blade Chapter seized and destroyed the Manufactorum District, giving Mistanbol his first setback, while he held back his Morkanaut for a decisive battle.
  • Evan continued shooting down missiles and Orks from the Arctic fortress wall, while the defenders at Milanko Hive City struggled to contain the invasion and wondered why the Storm Will had not arrived.

Ch. 6A ferocious offensive

Yifeng and the Astartes repelled an Ork assault on the wall, then reinforcements arrived and launched a full counteroffensive. As more Space Marines gathered on Atris, Ork warlord Mistanbol prepared a major attack, believing a secret weapon would turn the tide in three days.

  • Yifeng burned Ork corpses from the wall, then helped destroy two Deff Dreads after Ork vehicles rammed the defenses.
  • Lightning Strike Fighters and Thunderbolt Heavy Fighters struck the Ork armor, while transports delivered militia and armored reinforcements to the fortress.
  • The Storm Will Chapter deployed 680 Astartes in Drop Pods, joining the Green Templars and Shadow Blades on Atris.
  • Mistanbol ordered his forces to hold back their Deff Dreads for three days while a powerful device was prepared.
  • Mistanbol unleashed the Weirdboys and sent the Ork host out, planning to use the device's field to protect the Deff Dreads in a later assault.

Ch. 7An unstoppable force meets an immovable object

Third Squad raced across the ice to search for Ork tunnels while the Storm Will and Shadow Blades counterattacked the Ork horde. Boomblasta destroyed his Gorkanaut in a massive explosion that killed and wounded many Storm Will warriors, leaving Skaro in command as the Green Templars vowed revenge.

  • William led Third Squad on grav-bikes through the Ork horde and into the A9C1 Region to search for hidden underground entrances.
  • The Storm Will and Shadow Blades drove the Orks back with tanks and artillery, then called an orbital bombardment that destroyed the surrounding Orks and disabled the Gorkanaut’s force field.
  • Kargas Bel led Terminators into the Gorkanaut, believing they could kill the Ork warlord, while Boomblasta activated a hidden escape mechanism and destroyed the machine with a bomb.
  • Boomblasta escaped in the Gorkanaut’s flying head, while the explosion killed six Ranger-pattern Terminators and gravely wounded Kargas Bel and several other Astartes.
  • Skaro took command of the Storm Will after Kargas Bel and the First Company captain were incapacitated, and Deika ordered the Green Templars to stop conserving ammunition and destroy the remaining Orks.

Ch. 8This blood debt must be repaid in blood

Boomblasta reported destroying the Storm Will Chapter Master’s force with the Gork Dreadnought, while Mistanbol prepared the Orks for the approaching Imperial assault. The Astartes launched their final attack on the Iron Mine Base after disabling its last invulnerability field, and the chapter ended as Evan charged into the melee.

  • Boomblasta told Mistanbol that the Gork Dreadnought had exploded among the enemy and was rewarded with two thousand teeth and orders to build flying machines.
  • Kshevich’s squad detected a strange underground energy signal, then received word that the Storm Will Chapter Master had been gravely wounded and joined the Fourth Company’s assembly.
  • Captain Zhanke ordered the Astartes to fortify their positions as the Imperial forces raided Ork supply sites and encircled the Iron Mine Base.
  • Boomblasta recruited Mekboyz to build his envisioned flying machine while Mistanbol inspected Ulutan’s colossal killing machine beneath the base.
  • Deika coordinated the Imperial assault, and the fleet’s volley and the Chief Librarians’ Waaagh! Lightning disabled the Orks’ final invulnerability field.
  • Mistanbol awakened thousands of Deff Dreads as the Astartes charged the Ork army, with Evan advancing behind William into the battle.

Ch. 9Facing Mistanbol

Yifeng fought through the Orks’ defenses and joined a teleport assault on their Gargant after an orbital strike destroyed the Morkanaut. Inside the Gargant, he unexpectedly came face-to-face with the warlord Mistanbol, and the chapter ended as they began their duel.

  • Yifeng charged through the Killa Kans, lost his Chainsword, and received a replacement from Everis of the Shadow Venom Blade Chapter.
  • The Shadow Venom Blade clan chiefs attacked the Morkanaut while the Astartes withdrew, and an orbital salvo destroyed it after the warriors teleported clear.
  • A Gargant appeared and forced Deika to order a retreat; Yifeng and twelve other warriors teleported into the Gargant to disable its shield and target Mistanbol.
  • Yifeng fought through the Gargant’s lower levels, followed a trail of destruction, and took a golden Power Sword from a warrior trapped inside a wall.
  • Yifeng entered Mistanbol’s command room through the royal kitchen, identified himself with an exaggerated battle boast, and prepared to fight the Ork warlord.

Ch. 10Taking a Head Amid Ten Thousand Warriors

Evan fought the Ork warlord Mistanbol aboard the Gargant and pursued him through the power chamber despite suffering severe injuries. He killed Mistanbol in front of the gathered Astartes and left them stunned by his bravery.

  • Evan deflected Mistanbol's axe strikes with his swords and used a Melta Bomb to damage the weapon.
  • Mistanbol kicked Evan and struck his shoulder with the weakened axe before fleeing through a hole in the floor.
  • Evan activated his Power Armour's chemical injectors and chased Mistanbol into the power chamber with the axe still lodged in his shoulder.
  • Mistanbol fled past the assembled Astartes as Evan charged after him, and Deika recognized Evan as a warrior from the Green Templars' Fourth Company.
  • Evan threw his Power Sword into Mistanbol's thigh, then cut off the warlord's head with his Chainsword.
  • Evan addressed the dying Mistanbol, hung his head at his waist, and greeted the stunned Astartes.

Ch. 11Investigating the mysterious energy signal

After the battle against the Orks, Evan returned to the Green Templars and struggled with the attention his victory brought. While investigating a mysterious energy signal, Third Squad uncovered and recovered a nearly intact Aeldari spacecraft, leaving the Chapter Master wondering what its technology and leaking fuel could reveal.

  • Deika ordered the orbital Lance strike that destroyed the Gargant, while Evan posed for a photograph as the strike hit behind him.
  • Tristy arranged to use Evan’s return as a symbol of hope for Atris, and Evan’s squadmates celebrated and fussed over him.
  • Boomblasta escaped into space and resolved to lead the Orks on a Waaagh across the universe.
  • Evan and Third Squad investigated a radioactive energy signal, dug through the permafrost, and uncovered an Aeldari spacecraft leaking a strange red substance.
  • Kshevich identified the spacecraft, and the Green Templars and Imperialis Militia boxed it up with the surrounding contaminated soil for transport and study.
  • Deika considered the spacecraft’s possible origins, technology, and fuel as Third Squad received orders to return to the Arctic Base.

Ch. 12Victory celebration

The Chapters divided the war spoils while Atris prepared a Victory Day celebration, and Evan used his speech to rally humanity against its enemies. The chapter ended with the crowd answering his call to unite and liberate the galaxy.

  • Deika proposed dividing the captured Aeldari spacecraft and other spoils among the Shadow Venom Blade Chapter, the Green Templars, and the Storm Will Chapter, and the leaders agreed.
  • Tristy organized a planet-wide victory celebration for October 27, including a military parade and public festivities.
  • Evan took the stage in his damaged Power Armour and told the crowd that humanity faced threats across the galaxy.
  • Evan urged people to remember how humans from many worlds had united to defeat the Orks and challenged them to fight humanity's enemies together.
  • Evan called for humans everywhere to unite and liberate the entire galaxy, and the crowd answered with battle cries.

Ch. 13Baina Robe

Atris established its Astra Militarum and Planetary Defence Force, and Evan accepted a robe sewn from the people’s donated clothing as a symbol of their trust. After the Green Templars left to continue their campaign, Atris commemorated the war’s dead and survivors with monuments and a museum.

  • Atris established the Atris First Army and its PDF, while Tristy became the army’s second commander and Evan attended the celebrations.
  • Evan asked the people’s gift representative to gather their offerings and later accepted a patchwork robe made from donated clothes, naming it the Baina Robe of the people’s will.
  • The Green Templars took the Steadfast Splendor, reorganized their companies, and spent a month and a half clearing the remaining Orks from Atris.
  • At the departure ceremony, Evan wore the Baina Robe and declared that the Chapter would fight for the people; the Green Templars left Atris on December 14, 502.M42.
  • Yifeng’s Sayings became a sensation, and powerful red energy in the warp formed the shape of the Baina Robe.
  • Atris raised a statue of Evan and completed a museum and monument honoring the Astartes, militia, and people who fought and died in the war.

Ch. 14The Taste Meat Grinder

Deika sent his fleet to attack the rebel-held Taste System, where the coalition used long-range Lance attacks and successive retreats to resist the Chaos ships. Akarov sacrificed the rebel fleet in a plan to cripple the Battle Barges and alert the approaching Imperial Fleet, while his adjutant destroyed the final cruiser with the World Eaters aboard.

  • Deika chose the Taste System as a training ground and led his fleet there to attack the rebel colonies.
  • Akarov’s coalition ambushed the arriving ships with powerful Lance Batteries, destroying two battleships and several heavy cruisers while losing most of its escorts.
  • Akarov ordered the surviving rebels to evacuate to Taste III and ram the Battle Barges, hoping to destroy the enemy ships and win the Imperium’s favor.
  • The rebel cruisers overloaded their Void Shields and rammed the Battle Barges, wrecking their weapons and causing massive damage.
  • Akarov’s adjutant sent an account of the battle to the Imperial Fleet, then detonated the final cruiser with a half-company of World Eaters aboard.

Ch. 15Plan before you act

Deika and the Green Templars answered the rebel worlds’ plea for help and coordinated with the Shadow Venom Blade and Storm Will Chapters to confront the Chaos fleet in the Taste System. As the allied forces launched a surprise attack, Evan and his squad boarded an enemy ship while Storm Will was still on its way.

  • Deika trusted the warning about the Chaos fleet and summoned the Green Templars’ officers, who agreed to scout ahead and prepare for battle.
  • The Shadow Venom Blade Chapter set out to aid the Green Templars, while Skaro arranged Storm Will’s support and established psychic contact to shorten their rendezvous time.
  • Evan outfitted himself with a modified Bolter and an overcharged Plasma Pistol as the Green Templars mobilized and advanced into the Taste System.
  • Deika’s scouts confirmed the Chaos fleet’s damage and located a heavy cruiser bombarding Planet Three, so he planned an ambush while coordinating an attack with the Shadow Venom Blade Chapter.
  • The Shadow Venom Blade fleet emerged from the Warp and drew the Chaos ships toward it, allowing the Green Templars to attack the heavy cruiser and maneuver toward Planet Two.
  • Evan and his squad launched in an assault pod, breached an enemy ship with its melta, and entered the vessel.

Ch. 16A bitter battle

Squad Three fought through Khorne Cultists and World Eaters aboard the Chaos-corrupted cruiser, with Evan and Kshevich helping defeat the veteran Chaos Astartes. After suffering casualties, the squad split to hold a defensive position and continue toward the command room.

  • William led Squad Three through the Khorne Cultists, and the Space Marines destroyed the ship's power systems after hearing that Squad Seven had completed its attack.
  • Evan and the squad blasted through sealed doors and fought off Chaos Astartes, with Evan killing one World Eater and dueling a ten-thousand-year veteran.
  • Kshevich and Zerelo defeated a powerful World Eater, while Gajie shot at enemies during the close-quarters fighting.
  • William ordered Shi Zhengxiang, Zerelo, and Charles to hold a makeshift position as the wounded recovered and guarded the rear passage.
  • Evan continued toward the cruiser’s command room with William, Gajie, and Kshevich.

Ch. 17A glorious mishmash

The Green Templars and Shadow Venom Blade fought a desperate boarding battle over the cargo aboard an intact Chaos Battle Barge while the Storm Will raced to reinforce them. As the Blessed Forest defended itself from a Chaos Strike Cruiser, Evan’s squad ambushed an approaching Terminator and discovered that the enemy were Luna Wolves.

  • The Shadow Venom Blade fleet charged the enemy Battle Barges, and Deika and the Green Templars joined a costly boarding assault to uncover and destroy the hidden cargo.
  • Evan and his companions helped clear a Chaos warship, learned that its intact Battle Barge carried the protected cargo, and evacuated after heavy casualties.
  • Chapter Master Skaro ordered the Storm Will fleet to overload its engines and arrive sooner, despite the danger and the five-day inability to travel through the Warp afterward.
  • The battle split across three fronts as the Storm Will engaged Chaos reinforcements, Imperial Astartes fought aboard enemy Battle Barges, and the Blessed Forest faced a Chaos Strike Cruiser.
  • Evan, William, Kshevich, Charles, and Gajie prepared an ambush near the Blessed Forest’s bridge and opened fire on a black-and-gold Terminator, whose side identified them as Primaris Space Marines and Luna Wolves.

Ch. 18Rivers of blood

Evan fought his way to the Church and helped Morgkin repel the Luna Wolves, while the Green Templars and Storm Will suffered catastrophic losses in battle. With only nine Green Templars alive and Deika still missing, Morgkin led the Blessed Forest toward the Main Battlefield to bring their Chapter Master back.

  • The Luna Wolves withdrew from Evan’s position, and Evan volunteered to reinforce the Church after Zerelo called William for help.
  • Evan ambushed Luna Wolves in the passage, using a Melta Bomb, his Fear Spear, and an enemy corpse to kill several and drive others off before he reached the Church.
  • Evan and Morgkin, the former Green Templars Chapter Master, helped clear the Church; Morgkin drew more Luna Wolves into range and destroyed them with his Dreadnought’s weapons.
  • The Sons of Horus rammed their Battle Barge into Storm Will’s, destroying the newly acquired Battle Barge, and later teleported a force aboard another ship, forcing Skaro to order its evacuation and self-destruction.
  • Evan returned to find his former group gone, and the Green Templars discovered that only nine Astartes remained alive.
  • Morgkin ordered the Blessed Forest to follow the surviving Storm Will Battle Barge toward the Main Battlefield, and its crew voted to rename their Strike Cruiser the Vengeful Sword.

Ch. 19A blade aimed at the heart

Deika led the Green Templars, Shadow Blades, and Storm Will warriors through a brutal battle aboard the enemy Battle Barge, while Evan’s small group entered from a damaged storage area. Their advance ended as a vast Warp ritual unleashed psychic forces and daemons across the ship.

  • Deika linked up with fewer than eighty surviving Shadow Blades, and their combined forces charged the World Eaters when the ship lurched.
  • The three Chapters fought through the defenders, with the Storm Will warriors breaking the enemy line and helping surround the World Eaters.
  • The surviving Imperial forces found about two hundred World Eaters defending the Battle Barge’s final core and launched an assault through their fortified passages.
  • Morgkin ordered the Vengeful Sword to ram the enemy hangar after Evan’s assault pod launched, and the remaining warriors boarded the pod.
  • Evan’s group entered through the damaged forward storage area and pushed toward Deika’s battle, but the blood on the deck began to boil and decay as the Warp grew unstable.
  • A surge of psychic power killed nearby mortals and filled the Battle Barge with Warp energy; Morgkin told Evan to load psychic bolt rounds as the Astartes prepared to slay daemons.

Ch. 20Karkarim

Evan and the surviving Astartes fought the Bloodthirster Karkarim after he slaughtered most of their force. Evan used relic weapons and the Baina Robe to wound Karkarim, but the chapter ended with Karkarim still alive and the robe silently disagreeing with Evan’s explanation of its power.

  • Karkarim descended upon the altar and massacred the Astartes, overwhelming Deika, Skaro, and the Chapters’ psychic Grand Masters.
  • Evan and Morgkin arrived, distracting Karkarim while the Librarians struck him with a combined psychic attack that destroyed his wings.
  • The surviving warriors coordinated attacks against Karkarim, while Deika and Skaro wounded his tail and Evan recovered the Golden Power Sword and Dark Gold Chainsword.
  • Evan fought Karkarim with the relic weapons, but Karkarim killed Skaro and Morgkin and left only Evan standing against him.
  • Evan used the Baina Robe to block Karkarim’s claw and slashed his face with a Chainsword, then claimed the robe drew strength from the fearless spirit of the people.
  • In the Warp, the Baina Robe blocked Karkarim’s power and silently judged Evan’s explanation to be entirely wrong.
