This round of tax collection came to a fairly satisfactory conclusion.
Under Tax Officer Charp's personal supervision, all taxes owed by the planet were collected.
In this chaotic universe, the various worlds had no clearly defined "currency." Even the relatively widespread "Throne Gelt" could only be used in comparatively stable, prosperous sectors.
Elsewhere, the standards of exchange differed.
In the Cadia sector, ammunition and weapons of all kinds were commonly used. In the Outer Ring sectors, where trade with xenos was frequent, promethium and energy bars generally served as the standard of exchange.
For taxes primarily intended to support the war effort, Biyangdeke V contributed vast quantities of raw minerals for alloy production, along with the Biyangdeke Miner Regiment.
Most of the Biyangdeke Miner Regiment consisted of local miners. Almost all of them could operate heavy construction machinery, making them practically born tank crewmen.
The Thunderhawk, which lacked manpower but not guns, therefore lavishly equipped them with a large number of armored vehicles.
"Excellent. Two standard Terran weeks ahead of schedule," Tax Officer Charp said with a nod.
He looked at the fleet following behind him. The soldiers and warships requisitioned along the way were enough to launch a small crusade.
"Although we encountered a few minor mishaps along the way, we still completed our mission."
At that thought, Charp found the whole thing utterly absurd.
Everything had been fine along the way, until they emerged from a jump using the Inertialess Drive and ran into a Chaos Fleet.
A fierce battle erupted between the two sides. In the end, the tax collection fleet defeated them through the superior maneuverability provided by the Inertialess Drive. However, overusing the drive caused it to fail, and not a single Tech-Priest in the entire fleet could make sense of this necron technology.
