The Primarchs silently watched Vulkan as he lay upon the stone slab.

"I can barely sense his presence. Brother Vulkan seems to have fallen into a deep sleep," Sanguinius said.

Guilliman nodded, agreeing with Sanguinius.

"Indeed. That is also why the Blood Ravens failed to recognize him as Vulkan."

The Lion watched Vulkan in silence, unable for the moment to understand why his brother had fallen into slumber.

Vulkan, lord of the Salamanders, was not the strongest Primarch, but he was certainly the most resilient.

During the Horus Heresy and the years that followed, Vulkan had been recorded as "dead" several times, only to miraculously reappear.

Unlike the others, Lion El'Jonson knew clearly that Vulkan had indeed been "killed."

Curze, the Night Haunter, despised Vulkan more than any of his other brothers. The two were fundamentally at odds.

Having grown up in a city of sin, Curze firmly believed that human nature was inherently evil, and that only fear and punishment could restrain the wickedness lurking in the deepest recesses of the human heart.

Vulkan was almost his exact opposite. He treated others with kindness, and had even courteously released unarmed Aeldari during a war.

Their conflicting beliefs soon erupted into violence during the Horus Heresy, with both Primarchs using force to prove their convictions.

"First of all, this is a hammer." (Vulkan's words as he swung it at Curze.)

In the end, however, an evil cult seized the moment of Vulkan's resurrection to kill him with an unknown bolt of psyker lightning. At the time, not a single person on Macragge could revive him.

The grief-stricken Salamanders transported Vulkan back to Nocturne, firmly believing that there was a way to resurrect him there.

Lion El'Jonson did not know what happened afterward. He knew only that Vulkan had been resurrected
