Meanwhile, on the other side of that "door."
The physical laws of Realspace failed utterly here. The instant the united Aeldari fleet led by Liu Zhipeng plunged into the purple storm, it began to break apart in horrific fashion.
Millions of Aeldari warriors lost their bodies in the first minute of that mad charge.
Yet death was not the end.
Just as their souls were about to be devoured by the predators that lurked everywhere in the Warp, a powerful, warm, irresistible golden flame caught them and held them fast.
It was Liu Zhipeng's "primordial fire."
He hovered at the center of the Warp Storm like an immense, burning sun. Every Aeldari soul he had "kindled" remained intact after leaving its body, becoming a dancing golden "ember" that instinctively surged toward him without hesitation.
One, ten, thousands upon thousands, millions.
Soon, an unprecedented legion formed, composed entirely of soul-fire.
They no longer needed warships, for they themselves were the mightiest weapons. They no longer had bodies, for their will was the strongest armor. They gathered around Liu Zhipeng, forming a magnificent torrent of countless golden stars that stretched across the Warp.
This was the "Ember Legion."
"This... this is..." Yvraine's soul-fire shone beside Liu Zhipeng. As she gazed at this army of her kin's souls and felt their pure loyalty and courage, which transcended life and death, her amethyst eyes filled with awe.
"How does it feel, old Vect?" Liu Zhipeng's will, melded with millions of souls, echoed through every corner of the legion, his voice vast and clear.
"Fantastic! I feel at least two hundred pounds lighter!" Vect's soul-fire was especially nimble and... sharp, like a burning dagger. "Without a body holding me back, this feeling is... freedom! And I finally don't have to worry about my hair anymore!"
