Lord of Miracles and Destruction 466 The Chaos Gods’ primal power and the Emperor’s final will complete Primordial Quickening. His Chaos Spawn shell explodes, and a new body forms from light and fundamental laws.
Final passive ascension; freedom from the system 469 Executes the universal Restart. Primordial divine flame becomes Undying Star; temporal and causal defenses and judgment powers ascend. Quickening dissipates after fulfilling its purpose.
Golden star in the Warp 480 Expands his soul into a star that purifies the Chaos Gods’ attacks and limits their ability to project power into realspace.
Gork and Mork absorbed 565 Erases both gods and absorbs their divine power. Emerges in a colossal armored form whose golden fire overwhelms the remaining Chaos Gods’ attacks.

Background / History

Liu initially lives as a twenty-first-century office worker with an enthusiasm for Warhammer 40K. Returning home after discussing the setting with fellow fans, he encounters a towering golden figure and blurts out “huge yellow rat.” The figure’s gaze overwhelms him; he next awakens as a Nurgling inside the universe he had treated as fiction 1.

His reincarnations preserve his identity and memories while changing his species, social position, location, and historical era. By the end of his original journey, he has experienced eleven lives, ranging from expendable creatures to a Primarch clone and a C’tan Shard 1 467.

The Emperor eventually reveals that he deliberately arranged their first encounter. Liu originated when the Emperor separated a portion of his humanity from himself, intending it to grow through hardship and independent choice. Nevertheless, the Emperor explicitly describes Liu as a separate person with his own soul and will—not a clone, fragment, or tool 466 467.

Appearance

Liu has no single permanent appearance throughout his reincarnations. His later power frequently manifests as golden fire or light, even when his physical body is small, mechanical, or monstrous 230 242 402 446 466.

  • Nurgling: Round, green, jellylike body with wrinkles, pustules, one enormous eye, a permanently upturned mouth, and a small curved horn 1.
  • Genestealer hybrid: Almost indistinguishable from a human, apart from minor skin-color and skeletal abnormalities; possesses tough skin and strong limbs 8.
  • Human noble: Born with pale-gold eyes 17.
  • Ork warboss: Grows beyond six meters, with immense muscles and increasingly dark-green skin. Later reconstruction gives him a metal skull, red camera eye, and extensive machinery 50 65 73 74.
  • Necron Overlord: Elegant, deadly living-metal body, standing over three meters tall beneath his Tech-Priest disguise 83 102.
  • Horus clone: Bears Horus Lupercal’s face and commanding voice, with a massive Primarch physique 127.
  • Khaine-powered form: After absorbing the altar’s shards, has one golden-flame eye and one blood-red eye 230.
  • Unbound C’tan: Approximately three-meter humanoid outline composed of brilliant golden energy 402.
  • Chaos Spawn sphere: Initially dark purple, smooth, elastic, and featureless, with golden specks beneath its surface. Feeding mouths contain spiraling rows of teeth 446.
  • Post-reset human body: Returns to his cheap suit, briefcase, inexpensive digital watch, and hands callused from typing, while retaining star-crushing power 469.
  • Mortal hosts: Includes a grizzled Nucerian gladiator with a mechanical leg and an Olympian craftsman who eventually grows white-haired and deeply wrinkled 480 489.

Personality

Liu is irreverent, profane, and quick to frame terrifying situations through jokes, workplace complaints, or gaming language. He treats Ork growth as an optimization loop, describes replacing Khaine as taking over a “new account,” and rejects Nurgle’s temptation by complaining about unpaid social insurance 47 139 203.

His leadership usually begins with practical assistance: sharing food, rescuing exhausted workers, teaching engineering, or offering the oppressed a secure place to live. He understands that generosity alone is insufficient and combines it with demonstrated competence, organization, and public victories 3 4 8 244 248.

Compassion does not make him consistently merciful. He knowingly uses innocent-minded Nurglings in a fatal attack, steals Kastor Alpha’s identity after destroying both his body and backup, refuses surrendering Orks, and drains the Void Dragon despite its pleas. He recognizes some of these moral costs but proceeds when they serve his objectives 6 85 248 409.

His courage increasingly centers on protecting others rather than securing another successful reincarnation. He holds an evacuation gate against Fulgrim, sacrifices his Gretchin body to liberate his followers’ souls, and shields an Imperial fleet from Szarekh. After the reset, however, he also deliberately withholds intervention during the Men of Iron massacres, believing humanity must develop resilience rather than depend on his power 207 296 429 472 475.

Abilities & Skills

Eternal Reincarnation System

The system protects Liu’s soul at death and converts completed lives into lasting passive abilities 1.

  • Randomizes his next life-form, identity, location, and time; Liu cannot select them 1.
  • Preserves rewards across later incarnations 1 7.
  • Does not always provide a normal settlement: his C’tan death leads directly into his Chaos Spawn life 445.
  • Completes its mission and disappears after Restart, leaving Liu free of its restraints 469.

Grandfather’s Watch and Love

His first permanent reward embodies leadership among the downtrodden and adaptation to hostile conditions 7 8.

  • Helps him connect with desperate, exploited miners 8.
  • Prevents harsh or filthy environments from causing substantive harm and may turn them to his advantage 7.

Primordial Fire, Primordial Divine Flame, and Undying Star

Liu’s golden soul-fire supports both his followers and his resistance to corruption 50 194 296.

  • Inspiration: “Ignites” followers’ souls, increasing Ork fervor and loyalty 50.
  • Healing: Restores life force to Celestine through her injured wing 216.
  • Soul defense: Resists Khaine’s consumption attempt and burns away Slaaneshi mental influence 194 447.
  • Refinement: Processes the hostile wills within absorbed C’tan Shards 431.
  • Undying Star: After final ascension, converts Nurgle’s plagues, Tzeentch’s sorcery, Khorne’s fury, and Slaanesh’s temptations into harmless psychic power wherever its light shines 469.

Golden Judgment and Reality Correction

Golden Judgment allows Liu to override defenses and impose destructive effects independent of his body’s apparent strength 242 248.

  • Erases Orks through ordinary punches and kicks 242.
  • Bypasses a Stasis Field and collapses a Morkanaut’s Void Shield 248.
  • Breaks the Void Dragon shard’s defenses through repeated Reality Correction strikes 408.
  • Stacks Reality Correction without limit during contact with Skullkrak, causing Liu’s strength to rise exponentially 282.
  • Ascends after Restart so that his judgments can erase even godlike enemies 469.

Temporal Wraith

Temporal Wraith defeats restraints involving space, time, and binding protocols 402 403.

  • Destroys the Novokh control matrix and releases him from his living-metal shell 402.
  • Disrupts repeated attempts to teleport him back into containment 403.
  • Lets him pass through the Emperor-forged seals guarding the Void Dragon 408.
  • Is identified by the Emperor as a means of overcoming causality’s normal restrictions during the proposed timeline reset 467.
  • His final ascended defenses make him immune to temporal and causal attacks 469.

Necron Overlord Capabilities

His fifth incarnation combines advanced machinery with an independent human soul 83 112.

  • Living metal: Recreates Kastor Alpha’s robe, mechanical appendages, wear marks, and even the scent of oil and incense 85.
  • Reanimation Protocols: Transfer his consciousness into reserve bodies after destruction; by his third awakening, only the final reserve remains 83 85.
  • Phase Shift / Phase Shifter: Passes through walls and floors, including an escape route around Xunbekel’s spatial blockade 113 117.
  • Overlord authorization: Commands the Third Legion and accesses dynastic systems until his privileges are revoked 113.
  • Glory of Bloodshed: Allows him to block a guard’s Phase War Scythe with his forearm 112.
  • Flayer-curse immunity: Remains rational and unaffected while other Maynarkh Necrons succumb to compulsive flesh hunger 110.

C’tan Power and Primordial Quickening

His C’tan incarnation supplies immense physical-reality power, while Primordial Quickening develops within his soul 401 402.

  • Warps space, destroys enemies at the molecular level, and absorbs other shards’ energy 402 405.
  • Combines physical-reality manipulation with psychic power against Szarekh’s throne 429.
  • Quickening consumes flesh, metal, souls, sonic energy, and conceptual entities during his Chaos Spawn life 448 451 457.
  • Strips harmful divine influence from Nurgle’s power before absorbing the remaining energy 464.
  • Limit: Its hunger can weaken even his C’tan body; an excess of realspace energy without sufficient Warp energy ultimately kills him 403 445.
  • Reaches maturity through the combined Chaos Gods’ primal power and the Emperor’s final will, then dissipates after fulfilling its purpose 466 469.

Leadership, Engineering, and Information Warfare

Liu repeatedly converts weak or disorganized groups into coordinated forces 4 61 281.

  • Establishes specialized squads, contribution-based rewards, recruitment tasks, and supply systems 4.
  • Designs a layered defense that links frontline combat, salvage, repair, and replenishment 60 61.
  • Extracts memories, infiltrates communications, fabricates evidence from authentic fragments, and erases traces of his interference 85 87 92.
  • Teaches Gretchin to modify unstable Ork machinery with safety mechanisms and improved cooling 244.
  • Uses propaganda, staged weakness, and diplomatic performances to shape recruitment and enemy expectations 248 271 273 281.
  • Coordinates millions of workers through standardized construction squads, technical teams, and logistics 454.

Divine Realm and Consciousness Fragments

The faith and souls of Liu’s Gretchin followers form a golden Divine Realm around his soul and Lighthouse 296.

  • Gives their souls a destination independent of Gork and Mork 296.
  • Later divides his consciousness into mortal hosts while his true self restrains the Chaos Gods in the Warp 480.
  • Uses those hosts to guide Primarchs through direct companionship, teaching, and practical support 483 487 488.
  • Mortal host bodies still age and approach natural death 489.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Boji — First Nurgling friend and appointed second-in-command; gives Liu the nickname “Boss” and participates enthusiastically in his plans 2 3 6.
  • Big’un — Early Ork follower whose loyalty culminates in retrieving Liu’s mutilated body despite orders to escape 47 73.
  • Mad Dok Grotsnik — Reconstructs Liu after near-fatal injuries. Liu rewards the successful operation with respect and promises of interesting future test subjects 73 74 75.
  • Gork and Mork / Bonecrusher Saraka — Initially empower Liu and sponsor his Cadia expedition. Saraka later confronts him as their realspace incarnation; Liu diverts Gretchin souls from their claim and eventually absorbs both gods 74 75 296 565.
  • Ghazghk — Gretchin engineering collaborator who develops jump technology, retrieves C’tan Shards, and supports large-scale construction. Liu remembers him after Restart and asks about his future 244 409 431 454 469.

  • Mavis — Aeldari ally who supports his plans and closes the evacuation gate on his command, despite anguish at leaving him behind 200 207.
  • Eldrad, Yriel, and Vect — Coalition partners: Eldrad trusts his transformation, Yriel pledges Iyanden after its rescue, and Vect commands the combined fleet’s attack on Bloodfang 203 230.
  • Abaddon — Recurring enemy whom Liu humiliates and fights across multiple incarnations. Abaddon’s laboratory raid also indirectly enables H-02’s survival by overlooking the discarded clone 80 127 187 216.

  • Ghazghkull — Krork opponent who submits after Liu defeats him in a prolonged close-quarters beating 552.
  • The Chaos Gods — Escalate from tempting or exploiting him to jointly trying to erase him. After Restart, Liu suppresses their influence and forces them toward indirect mortal schemes 139 464 466 478 480 565.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Nurgling Gang and the War Against Khorne

  • Wins his first followers by sharing a mushroom feast and publicly outmaneuvering a stronger bully, then establishes the Nurgling Gang 3.
  • Introduces management practices that make the gang unusually efficient at spreading Nurgle’s corruption 4.
  • Uses taunts, concealed trenches, and plague mixtures instead of accepting the Nurglings’ suicidal enthusiasm for a frontal charge 5.
  • Targets Ka’Bandha’s pride through escalating humiliation. The final trap changes the Bloodthirster’s roar into laughter, breaks the Khorne army’s morale, and kills Liu and his participating followers 6 7.

Genestealer Cult and Human Incarnations

  • As Brother Peng on Viridia Prime, earns miners’ trust through rescue, protection, and practical help rather than relying solely on the cult’s salvation preaching 8.
  • His aid remains entangled with the cult’s purpose of preparing the planet for Tyranid invasion; he later recalls having become a Patriarch 8 401.
  • His third life places him inside Imperial society as a noble-born human who later becomes a Commissar 17 127.

Ork Rise, Octarius, and Cadia

  • Develops the Tooth Puller reputation by defeating Orks nonlethally, taking their teeth, and leaving them alive as renewable sources of income 47.
  • Expands the Big Tooth Gang through ambushes and forced recruitment, eventually drawing Saraka’s attention 50.
  • Proposes a defensive system that makes Tyranid warfare sustain itself through salvage and replenishment 60 61.
  • Following reconstruction and divine empowerment, receives three rebuilt Slaughter-class cruisers and departs for Cadia 74 75.
  • Overpowers Abaddon and disrupts Khârn and Lucius’s joint attack, but his fourth life reaches its final crisis when enemy forces surround his ship 80 81.

Necron Infiltration and Maynarkh Escape

  • His Overlord awakening coincides with Slaanesh’s birth, destroying his first body almost immediately. Subsequent reanimation leaves him in dangerous locations before he adopts Kastor Alpha’s identity 83 85.
  • Uses historical foreknowledge and forged communications to seek access to Vulkan and Corax before the Isstvan catastrophe 86 87 88.
  • Frees loyalist prisoners and later intervenes in Terra’s defenses; the Emperor recognizes the significance of his actions beneath the Tech-Priest disguise 95 102 106.
  • Returns to a tomb complex and discovers he belongs to the flayer-cursed Maynarkh Dynasty, while remaining personally immune 109 110.
  • Escapes Xunbekel’s capture attempt by exploiting command privileges, a decoy, dynastic legal technicalities, and outside attacks by Aeldari Corsairs and Orks 113 116.
  • Reaches the Dolmen Gate dock but encounters Hekaton, whose strength prevents a straightforward escape 117.

Horus Clone and Aeldari Coalition

  • Discovers that Fabius Bile classified H-02 as a soulless failure and stored him underground for later dissection. That neglect allows him to survive the raid that destroys the other clones 127.
  • In his next incarnation, reverses Biel-Tan’s Young King sacrifice by resisting Khaine and seeking the shard’s power without surrendering to its rage 194.
  • Advocates cooperation among the divided Aeldari and with humanity, forming a broader anti-Chaos coalition through rescue and personal sacrifice 199 200 203 207 211.
  • Proposes the Four Pillars Plan: four planetary-scale Blackstone Obelisks positioned around the Eye of Terror’s main shipping lane to form a reality web and physically seal the rift 230.

Gretchin Liberation and the Golden Divine Realm

  • Turns a workshop escape into an organized rebellion, publicly defeats Gurlok, and attracts oppressed Gretchin through promises of food, clothing, and safety 242 248.
  • Expands from tens of thousands into a vast industrial military force, while defeating the planet’s Ork warlord and testing diplomatic contact with the Imperium 250 251 256 281.
  • Uses apparent weakness and staged sacrifice to manipulate T’au perceptions before revealing his army’s true capabilities 271 273 281.
  • Faces Saraka alone at the City of Hope. His deliberate acceptance of bodily destruction becomes the catalyst for Gretchin souls to gather around him and form a divine power independent of Gork and Mork 296.

Saul, C’tan Consumption, and the Necron Campaign

  • Saul’s sacrifice saves a sector from the Abyss Engine and produces Sorrowful Reflection, which merges into Primordial Quickening 401.
  • As a C’tan Shard, breaks free of Novokh control and seeks concentrated energy in other shards, including Trazyn’s collection and the Void Dragon on Mars 402 405 409.
  • Adopts the public role of an Imperial divine protector, healing troops, destroying Blackstone defenses, and shielding human fleets 416 419 424.
  • Uses the confrontation with Szarekh to cover Ghazghk’s shard-retrieval mission and the Imperial fleet’s escape 426 429 431.
  • Destroys Szarekh, his throne, and the Necron fleet, but cannot survive Quickening’s energy imbalance; his victory ends in another supernova death 445.

Chaos Spawn, Divine Ascension, and Restart

  • Reborn hungry for Warp energy, consumes daemons, Noise Marines, a Helbrute, and an entire Chaos army 445 447 448 451.
  • Reunites with his Gretchin collaborators and turns mass consumption into site clearance for a Blackstone construction project 453 454.
  • His resistance to the Chaos Gods’ defining powers provokes a joint primal assault. The Emperor’s last shield gives Quickening the conditions necessary to mature 464 465 466.
  • Accepts the burden of replacing the existing timeline after learning that its inhabitants—including the Emperor—will disappear 467 468.
  • Executes Restart through his spear and self-detonation, reverses universal causality, and returns to human form with ascended abilities. The system promises Ghazghk and Sharpfang new human lives and another meeting with him 469.

Guiding the New Era

  • Builds a business empire and preserves advanced technological knowledge in distant colonies rather than preventing the Men of Iron Rebellion outright 471 472 475.
  • Destroys newborn Slaanesh’s consciousness and suppresses the other Chaos Gods from within the Warp, preventing the birth-rift invasion they intended 478 480.
  • Counters their mortal proxy schemes through consciousness-fragments, guiding Angron’s liberation movement and raising Perturabo as an adopted son 480 483 485 487 488.
  • Defeats Ghazghkull into submission and later absorbs Gork and Mork, leaving Nurgle fleeing and Tzeentch unable to calculate a winning response 552 565.
  • Appears beside Slaanesh one millisecond before its recovering consciousness can release a revival shriek; the supplied passage ends at his arrival 571.
