Background / History
Earliest memories
Nuomi remembers nothing of her life or death. Her earliest recollection is seeking somewhere to stay two years before meeting Zhou You. She drove Ghost King Zhenyue out of the Old Dormitory Building, later explaining that her mind was unclear and that he attacked first 5.
During this period, the novice Celestial Master Su Tingxue attempted to exorcise her with glutinous rice. Nuomi initially mistook the rice for food and named herself after it. Discovering its intended purpose left her with a lasting grudge against Su, whom she calls the “rotten rice-thrower” 4 5 6.
Meeting Zhou You and Chu Xiaoyao
Nuomi treats the dormitory as her home and frightens students who enter it for dates or exploration. When Zhou You and Chu Xiaoyao investigate, Zhou’s Soul Projection allows him to see her. Both he and Nuomi mistake the other’s nervous stance for evidence of dangerous expertise 3 4.
She targets the apparently easier opponent, Chu Xiaoyao, but her fear technique traps her inside Chu’s dark inner world. An axe-wielding manifestation of Chu drives her out, after which Zhou punches her unconscious while trying to protect his friend. Nuomi awakens in tears over the encounter and the repeated intrusions into her home 4.
After Zhou apologizes, she voluntarily accepts his invitation to live in Class Three. Her presence cools the classroom, although ordinary students cannot see or hear her. She rejects Chu’s claim that she was captured 5.
Sect membership and the hidden treasury
By Chapter 13, Nuomi identifies herself as Zhou’s deputy sect leader. Chu later formalizes the appointment using the jade seal recovered from Big Stone Lake 13 48.
Nuomi offers her savings to fund Zhou’s body refinement. She hid them in the lake so that she could flee the dormitory without losing them if a powerful exorcist appeared. The retrieval attempt fails when an unseen force prevents her from entering the water 22 23.
Zhou’s subsequent dives recover a jade seal rather than her treasury. Nuomi then reveals that her savings consist of high-denomination Hell Money collected from offerings burned at the dormitory. Learning that it has no ordinary monetary value devastates her; Zhou comforts her by pointing out that all three sect members are equally broke 46 47.
The search also creates a costly misunderstanding for the Superpower Organization: the Red King retrieves Nuomi’s Hell Money, and the Professor initially treats it as a possible form of the Human Dao Supreme Treasure. Later testing finds no special properties 44 47 70.
Search for her identity
Zhou and Chu consult the Vengeful Ghost Compendium, but none of its descriptions fit Nuomi. Her attempt to resemble a hanging ghost—cutting white silk from her dress and suspending herself from a ceiling fan—does not resolve the question 52.
The failed identification exposes feelings she has concealed from her friends. Alone in the classroom at night, she wonders where she came from, but has been reluctant to burden Zhou and Chu. Zhou promises to help recover her memories, and Chu proposes revisiting the dormitory. They find no clues, though sharing her feelings helps Nuomi recover her cheerfulness 52 53.
History tutors and “White Rainbow”
Nuomi later studies history at Zhou’s request, but short videos confuse her understanding of the Ming and Qing dynasties. After she catches Zhenyue attempting another theft, she asks him for help. He offers to bring ghosts familiar with the period to tutor her 105 108 109.
Zhenyue brings Ghost King Chongzhen, the Clash Ghost King, and the Loyalty Ghost King. Nuomi’s domain suppresses their cultivation before they enter the classroom. Chongzhen recognizes her and begins saying “White Rainbow,” but Zhenyue interrupts and insists that all three address her as Big Sis Nuomi 110.
- Identity remains unresolved: Chongzhen’s recognition is a clue, not an explicit confirmation that Nuomi is White Rainbow Dao Lord. The supplied chapters separately describe that Dao Lord lying alive and dormant in a jade coffin 73 110.
Appearance
Nuomi appears as a young-looking female ghost with a slender figure, clear eyes, and a white dress 7 34 110.
- Bare feet: Sits on a classroom desk swinging them while using her phone 110.
- Insubstantial appearance: Her figure looks translucent in sunlight 7.
- Unassuming demeanor: Her relaxed appearance contrasts with the oppressive domain felt by visiting ghost kings 110.
Personality
Nuomi is playful, easily excited, and fond of frightening people, teasing classmates, and watching spectacles involving Su Tingxue. Although usually timid, she becomes exceptionally confident when facing Su and eagerly accepts rematches 3 7 34.
Her cheerfulness conceals sensitivity about rejection and her missing past. She cries when driven from her home or overwhelmed, and initially keeps her loneliness private because she considers her lost memories her own problem 4 52 53.
She is devoted to her sect companions, offering her savings, defending them from criticism, and enthusiastically praising their achievements. She also readily believes Chu’s grandiose stories and unreliable short-video lessons. Her willingness to learn is genuine, even when her conclusions are mistaken 22 56 57 79 108.
Abilities & Skills
Fear-Inducing Secret Art
Nuomi can enter the depths of an opponent’s heart, draw out their greatest fear, and trap them within it. The technique is described as independent of cultivation level 4.
- Combat application: Touching Su Tingxue’s forehead leaves her overwhelmed by terror and unable to stand 7 34 100.
- Mental resistance: Superior mental fortitude can prevent Nuomi from controlling the inner world she enters 4.
- Backfire: Chu Xiaoyao’s inner world traps and terrifies Nuomi instead of its intended target 4.
Ghost Domain and Cold Air
Her presence makes both the old dormitory and Class Three unnaturally cold 5 6.
- Cooling: Keeps the rooftop comfortable even under the midday sun 34.
- Icy breath: Blows freezing air onto people’s necks to wake or chastise them 30 56.
- Cultivation suppression: Her domain weakens the visiting ghost kings near Class Three 110.
Strength, Speed, and Durability
Nuomi’s physical power greatly exceeds her knowledge of combat technique 59 65 105.
- Evasion: Easily dodges Su’s pursuing Vital Yang Flame and perceives her later Yang Thunder attacks as extremely slow 7 100.
- Overwhelming force: Batters Zhenyue despite his refined fighting skills; one kick sends him from Class Three’s back row into Class Four’s 59 105.
- Lightning resistance: The Six-Thunder Cage barely tickles her, despite being dangerous even to veteran Foundation Establishment cultivators 100.
- Binding resistance: Escapes an Immobility Talisman after a moment and later breaks three simultaneous Binding Talismans 34 100.
- Technical limitation: Fights largely by instinct and asks Chu to teach her rather than continuing to rely on innate strength 65 79.
Intangibility and Object Interaction
Nuomi can touch physical objects or pass through them at will 48.
- Flight: Flies through a wall to reach the rooftop 66.
- Writing: Uses a floating pen to communicate praise to Chu before Chu can perceive her directly 19.
- Possession: Enters stationery and handmade figures, then animates them 95 96.
- Soul-accessible vessels: Her prior possession allows Zhou to enter objects he could not otherwise possess 95 96.
- Possible Ghost Artifact creation: Lian Yi and the Organization’s observers identify the possessed objects as Ghost Artifacts; Zhou notices his soul strengthening after playing with one 95 96.
Visualization Practice
Nuomi trains her imagination using Chu’s suggested method and advises Zhou to visualize handling objects. His projected soul eventually moves a pen 48 49.
- Unconfirmed manifestation: Her attempts to create an imagined opponent fail 49.
- Mistaken success: She believes she manifested Zhenyue when the real ghost sneaks into the classroom; she cannot repeat the supposed feat 59.
Ghostly Traits and Restrictions
- Ordinary invisibility: Most students cannot perceive her; Zhou initially serves as her interpreter 5 6.
- Food limitation: Cannot consume ordinary food, including shaved ice 32.
- Sunlight tolerance: Sometimes sunbathes, unlike the ghost types Zhou expects 52.
- Freedom to leave school: Remains there by choice because it offers companionship, lessons, and entertainment 73.
- Lake barrier: Cannot enter Big Stone Lake. Chu attributes this to her not being a water ghost, but Zhenyue’s perspective reveals a seal protecting the hidden treasure from vengeful ghosts 23 47.
- Unknown realm: Nuomi reports no increase in strength over her remembered two years, despite her formidable feats 57.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Old smartphone — Chu gives her her father’s previous phone as a sect-membership reward. Nuomi treasures it and uses it for entertainment, etiquette advice, and history videos 56 59 81 105.
- Hidden treasury — A wooden box of Hell Money concealed at Big Stone Lake; intended as sect funding before its lack of real-world value becomes clear 22 46 47.
- Handmade miniature figure — Built by Zhou from paper, tape, and eraser pieces for possession and mock battles 96.
- Empty pen refills — Used as miniature weapons during figure-based practice with Zhou 99.
Relationships

- Chu Xiaoyao — Sect elder, protector, and admired mentor figure. Nuomi initially fears her after the inner-world encounter, but grows attached to her and eagerly accepts her stories and guidance 4 19 56 79.
- Su Tingxue — Longstanding rival whose rice-based exorcism inspired Nuomi’s name. Their repeated duels become both a training opportunity and a source of Spirit Stones 4 6 99 100.
- Ghost King Zhenyue / Little Li — Former dormitory occupant and repeatedly defeated thief. Nuomi eventually spares him and accepts his offer to arrange history tutors, unaware that he wants the jade seal 5 59 105 109.
- Ghost King Chongzhen, Clash Ghost King, and Loyalty Ghost King — Prospective history tutors who greet her respectfully as Big Sis Nuomi 110.
- Duan Yuxian — Meets Nuomi through the Ghost-Seeing Glasses and enthusiastically appreciates her cooling presence 76.
- Lian Yi / Tang Shiyin — Undercover observer who investigates Nuomi’s identity and interprets her casual possession experiments as extraordinary artifact refinement 53 85 95.
