Li Yu was submerged on the seabed, filming the scenery around him with the tablet.
He could not very well attend classes at the Great Evolution Academy during this period, so he decided to learn how to make short videos instead. He gathered footage, sorted through it whenever he had time, and practiced editing before posting it on the Galaxy Platform, building an audience for his future livestreaming debut.
Jiang Taiyi's tablet was a very old model, and the footage it captured was not particularly sharp. But Li Yu's main selling point was everyday life on a backward planet, so this resolution was just right.
His videos received very few views, however. The sole exception was a video of him harvesting a pearl, which had over a thousand views. Three viewers had even sent him gifts. Although they amounted to only 0.03 Star Coins in total, Li Yu was already delighted.
In that video, he had used Taiyi Starshine to locate an old clam containing spiritual energy on the seabed. After catching and opening it, he obtained a Spirit Pearl that had probably been nurtured for thirty years.
The video's viewing data was available in the backend. He discovered that viewership peaked when he opened the clam and revealed the Spirit Pearl. After that, quite a few viewers skipped the remaining footage.
So viewers all like watching the haul.
Li Yu analyzed his findings and jotted them down, planning to put more effort into that aspect in the future.
With this positive feedback, Li Yu became even more motivated. Every day, he wandered around the sea, suspending the tablet above his head and using Micro-Yi Qi Control to make it follow him along the seabed, filming his search for Spirit Pearls.
With Taiyi Starshine's assistance, he could find more traces of spiritual energy than his fellow disciples, so his harvest was substantial. In just five short days, he found over twenty Spirit Pearls containing spiritual energy.
Conversely, he found very few Mortal Pearls that lacked spiritual energy.
That was because Li Yu's Taiyi Starshine had only just reached the point where it could perceive the outside world. It could only filter out and pick up objects containing spiritual energy within his field of vision.
For Li Yu, that should have been a good thing. After all, Mortal Pearls were useless to him. On the Galaxy Platform, however, it was not necessarily an advantage. Once viewers saw him reap too many rewards, they grew numb to it, and his views dropped. Sometimes, he needed to open a clam and find a Mortal Pearl to give their emotions a few ups and downs.
Thus, once Taiyi Starshine's consumption of his spiritual sense reached a critical threshold, Li Yu would also search the seabed for pearls with his naked eyes, deliberately opening a few Mortal Pearls to give his viewers some balance.
Under these circumstances, Li Yu's range of activity grew ever wider, and the footage stored on his tablet steadily accumulated.
One day, while editing a video, Li Yu suddenly spotted a broken section of a wooden sword in a piece of footage.
Having enhanced his memory, Li Yu immediately recognized that this wooden sword fragment had the same design as the wooden hairpin Luo Guan of the Mount Lao Sword Sect wore in his hair. It looked like the hairpin magnified a hundredfold.
Li Yu replayed the footage several times and determined where he had filmed it.
A short while later, he used a Sea-Diving Talisman to reach a patch of dark coral. The wooden sword fragment lay on one of its branches.
Li Yu retrieved the wooden sword and examined it carefully, confirming that his memory had not failed him.
This was the wooden hairpin Luo Guan had worn in his hair.
It seemed to have been severed by an incomparably sharp strand of Sword Qi. The cut was smooth, and all its spiritual energy had dissipated. That was precisely why Taiyi Starshine had not picked it up within his field of vision.
Almost everyone in the Mount Lao Sword Sect was a Sword Cultivator. A broken sword could essentially be taken to mean its owner was dead.
When Li Yu realized this, his pupils abruptly contracted.
Just then, a muffled thunderclap rumbled down from the surface.
Li Yu immediately activated his Locator Talisman. The talisman swiftly transformed into an invisible lotus that took root beneath his feet. At the same time, a ripple imperceptible even to spiritual sense spread outward, transmitting a signal to the Mystic Heart Lotus.
Above the sea, Ying Ruomu held an azure lotus in his hand as he fought Xu Wei, firmly suppressing this prodigy of the Mount Lao Sword Sect.
Just then, a petal of the azure lotus trembled slightly and lit up, pointing toward a spot on the seabed.
"I do not know which fellow disciple is down there. I am Ying Ruomu of Hanging Moon Peak. On this voyage, I was intercepted by Rogue Cultivators hired by Luo Guan of the Mount Lao Sword Sect, who sought to seize my Supreme Spirit Pearl. Please lend me your aid. Once we return to the Branch, I will reward you generously," Ying Ruomu called toward the seabed where Li Yu was.
The azure lotus in his hand had been purchased from the Five Lotus Sect's main peak at great expense by his Lineage. Named the Pure Heart Lotus, it combined offense and defense, and could also disguise itself as a Mystic Heart Lotus to intercept signals from Locator Talismans.
That was precisely how he had immediately detected Li Yu when he used his Locator Talisman.
Elsewhere, the white-robed young man Ying Feiyun knocked Qin Jian away with a single sword strike. A bronze sword flew from his waist as his hands simultaneously formed a sword seal. He slashed toward the empty space above the sea, sending a vast surge of Sword Qi crashing downward.
Without a sound, the sea parted beneath the Sword Qi, revealing a handsome young man below.
"It's you!"
A flicker of anger crossed Ying Ruomu's face when he saw Li Yu.
Li Yu sighed and let the Su Yi Origin Shield he had activated dissipate. He had spent this entire period filming alone on the seabed, so naturally, he had not been wearing the ordinary mask. Even if he wanted to pretend they did not know one another, he could not.
"Who is this? He actually managed to withstand a strike from my sword?" Ying Feiyun looked at Li Yu with curiosity. Although he had not used his full strength in that strand of Sword Qi, it was still beyond what an ordinary ninth-level Qi Refinement cultivator could withstand.
After all, Luo Guan, who was at the ninth level of Qi Refinement, had suffered a broken sword and grievous injuries in their very first exchange.
"Elder brother, he is the Li Yu I told you about." Though Ying Ruomu's tone was calm, everyone present could hear the hatred lurking beneath it.
Taking advantage of this moment, Xu Wei and Qin Jian also flew together, guarding each other's flanks.
All traces of languor had vanished from Qin Jian's face. He gripped his sword, staring solemnly at Ying Feiyun nearby, while speaking to win Li Yu over. "May I ask which peak of the Five Lotus Sect you belong to, fellow Daoist? Ying Ruomu has colluded with remnants of Great Xuan and seeks to sow discord between our sect and yours, despite our friendly alliance. I hope you will see every detail clearly."
"Junior Brother Ying and I are both from Hanging Moon Peak." After hearing this, Li Yu began considering which side was telling the truth, though he did not forget to answer Qin Jian's question.
At these words, Xu Wei, who had originally been facing Ying Ruomu, immediately turned and aimed her sword at Li Yu, her gaze sharp.
"Don't misunderstand. There's a grudge between us. I'm sure you could hear it yourselves. Back on Hanging Moon Peak, he competed with me for the position of senior brother among the outer disciples..." Seeing Xu Wei's expression, Li Yu immediately explained.
By then, he had also thought it through. Regardless of whether Ying Ruomu or Qin Jian was telling the truth, the grudge between him and Ying Ruomu was certainly real.
That meant there was no possibility of joining forces with Ying Ruomu.
Still, Li Yu had no intention of drawing his sword at the sight of injustice. He only wanted to leave.
