In a good mood, Jiang Xiang returned home and started packing.
After ages of packing, his suitcase was still empty.
Forget it.
He could buy things as he needed them. He could afford that much.
Sprawled on his bed, Jiang Xiang suddenly remembered he still had a Fusion Card-better than nothing.
It could only fuse D-rank cards.
Might as well play around with it.
Jiang Xiang took out the [Zhang Fei Card] and [Soldier Card].
What would happen if he fused two Character Cards directly?
Time to find out.
Zhang Fei would be the primary card, and the soldier would be the secondary.
Fuse!
A familiar light flashed-the same visual effect as opening a chest.
A brand-new card appeared before Jiang Xiang.
[Incomplete Character Card-Zhang Fei (Twin Souls)] [Rank: C (D)] [Skills: Transformation, Dissociative Identity, Spear Technique, Art of War...] [Solution to incompleteness: Obtain a portion of energy with an attribute] [Description: In a parallel world, a Geneticist stumbled upon the genes of Zhang Fei, the God of War. After cultivating his cells, the Geneticist implanted them into a group of Ordinary Soldiers. One succeeded. He called himself Zhang Fei.]
There was a way to reach C-rank, but it was only D-rank for now. In other words, all it had at present was a split personality.
Jiang Xiang put the card away without feeling particularly disappointed.
At least he had discovered another category of card.
"Make sure you bring Gwen Stacy back safely."
This was Jiang Xiang's first visit to Gwen Stacy's home, and his "first" meeting with her father, George.
Ahem.
He looks a lot more worn out than the last few times we met.
Naturally, Jiang Xiang nodded repeatedly in agreement with George's demand.
Safety was nonnegotiable.
Leaving in one piece only to never make it home would be awful.
"Don't worry, sir. I'll bring Gwen Stacy back safely."
George nodded.
Although Jiang Xiang was a little older than Gwen Stacy, George was reasonably satisfied with him.
After all, Jiang Xiang was already twenty. In George's eyes, he was mostly past his turbulent teenage years.
He had a career and plans for the future. That made him a fairly dependable man.
A few days later.
Jiang Xiang parked his car a short distance from Gwen Stacy's home.
He gazed at several towers in the distance.
Those buildings were quite famous: Stark Tower, Osborn Tower, and... the Hammer Building.
Before long.
Gwen Stacy emerged from her home in casual clothes, her hair tied in a ponytail.
Jiang Xiang's eyes lit up.
He let Gwen Stacy out that easily?
Then I won't send Kidd out for a while. I'll give you that much respect.
They were off. Their two-week sea voyage was about to begin, and Jiang Xiang had fully prepared himself mentally.
A mysterious smile spread across Jiang Xiang's face. Coming back to his senses, he smiled at Gwen Stacy.
"What are you smiling about?" Gwen Stacy looked around curiously.
"Nothing. I just thought of something nice."
Stark Industries Tower.
Ding.
The elevator stopped at one of the floors.
Pepper Potts stepped out in a classic business outfit.
She spotted her boss, Tony Stark, sporting sunglasses, a mustache, and an expression that said he owned the world.
She addressed the genius weapons designer. "Boss, the car is ready."
Tony stood up. "Rather than spend two weeks in a tin can..."
Tony picked up the latest Bikini Magazine beside him and began flipping through it.
"I'd rather see which one's better..."
Pepper remained expressionless, long accustomed to Tony's behavior. "This is a gesture of goodwill from President Stane. The Tech is part of our Stark Industries..."
"OK! OK!"
Tony stopped Pepper from continuing and turned the magazine back to its cover.
She'll do.
A cover girl to go with a trip in a tin can.
Seeing that Tony was willing to go, Pepper silently breathed a sigh of relief.
Even after getting into the elevator, Tony kept grumbling in Pepper's ear.
"Who'd want to spend all that time surrounded by scrap metal?"
"Did we really need to leave this early?"
Only halfway through the drive did Gwen Stacy learn that the Tech would not officially set sail until one that afternoon.
It was only nine thirty in the morning.
"Trust me, Gwen Stacy. Waiting in line is absolute torture."
Waiting in line really was miserable.
In his previous life, Jiang Xiang had hated visiting popular tourist attractions, especially during holidays, when the lines were unbearably long.
Paying to suffer. What a sucker's game.
A short while later.
The docks.
There's my chance!
Jiang Xiang swiftly pulled into a parking space, then got out with Gwen Stacy and strolled away.
That young punk has no manners!
But parking spaces belonged to whoever got there first.
"Wow, that cruise ship is huge!"
Gwen Stacy stared in amazement at the enormous cruise ship, the only one berthed at that section of the docks.
"The Tech is operated under the direction of Obadiah Stane, president of Stark Industries. It has over two thousand crew members alone. It's one of New York's largest cruise ships..."
Jiang Xiang had carefully researched the cruise ship's background.
Seeing the name Obadiah Stane, coupled with the news that Tony Stark would be aboard...
Jiang Xiang had an ominous feeling.
But that was fine. He was confident he could keep both himself and Gwen Stacy safe.
Perhaps he could even find an opportunity to stage a scenario.
After all, wraiths and uncanny phenomena could hardly be confined to dry land, could they?
This trip would probably be lively.
At the boarding entrance.
The moment Jiang Xiang spotted the VIP Lane, he realized he had been overthinking things. How could the tickets his maternal grandfather had prepared for him possibly be ordinary ones?
Why would esteemed VIPs need to wait in line?
Jiang Xiang handed a tip to the attendant who guided them.
Then he and Gwen Stacy settled into separate rooms.
It was not that Jiang Xiang was wrestling with the choice between being a beast and being worse than one.
Gwen Stacy was only seventeen.
Having received a proper upbringing in the East, Jiang Xiang simply could not bring himself to do anything with a seventeen-year-old minor.
Some might call him prudish.
But all that mattered to Jiang Xiang was having a clear conscience.
After getting his room in order, he headed to the cruise ship's top deck.
"Erguotou."
Jiang Xiang smiled at an attendant.
The attendant visibly froze for a moment.
Uh...
"I take it you don't have any. Two glasses of plain milk, please."
Jiang Xiang took Gwen Stacy around to enjoy the views from the cruise ship, even though it had yet to set sail.
He led her straight toward the restaurant. It was almost noon, after all-time to eat.
Gwen Stacy blinked curiously. "Have you been on this ship before?"
Jiang Xiang replied casually, "Of course not. But there's a layout in the room. Didn't you look?"
In his previous life, as a university student majoring in safety, the first thing Jiang Xiang did upon entering an enclosed space was check the evacuation map.
"Of course I did. You... memorized the whole thing?"
Jiang Xiang chuckled inwardly. Doesn't that just take a pair of eyes?
Gwen Stacy: "..."
