A romantic minefield.
For a man, those words often meant choices, pain, and death.
One wrong step could spell utter ruin, and every choice was agonizing.
For an ordinary man, this would have been a full-blown crisis, but not for Jonas.
Never mind that there was no real relationship between any of the three-even if there had been, Jonas would have held the upper hand.
Some people could find a way to survive even when caught between a rock and a hard place, and Mr. Jonas was clearly one of them.
Although he caught a faint whiff of romantic conflict, Mr. Jonas was hardly nervous. Instead, he quickly thought of a way to handle it, and the corners of his mouth curved upward.
Miss Esnie's thoughts were easy to guess, and Jonas could use that very mindset to make her fall even further in this situation.
At that thought, Jonas couldn't help smiling as he said to Eiffel in front of him:
"You're here. Just put the documents over there."
His tone was perfectly calm, with just the right touch of warmth and amusement in his eyes, as though he were greeting a lover he hadn't seen in ages.
Seeing Jonas behave this way made Eiffel wary, but she didn't let it show.
Then she heard Jonas continue:
"Let's put work aside for now. How have you been lately?"
There was concern in Jonas's voice, which only puzzled Eiffel further. Unable to tell what he was up to, she looked at him, trying to ask with her eyes just what he intended.
Unfortunately, Jonas avoided her gaze, leaving Eiffel no choice but to reply helplessly, "Pretty well."
"That's good."
At her answer, Jonas spoke as though something had just occurred to him:
