A game or two of Aeroplane Chess hadn't taken very long.
For Jonas, at least, this sort of relaxing entertainment really wasn't something to indulge in for too long.
If it went on too long, it would defeat the whole purpose of relaxing.
After all, who tried to relax only to end up with an aching back?
Just as she had claimed, Miss Celine was thoroughly versed in all kinds of theories. In just two games of Aeroplane Chess, she had demonstrated no fewer than ten techniques.
But a master of theory was still only a master of theory. However much she knew, she was inevitably a little rusty in practice...
Miss Celine stubbornly refused to concede, insisting that she would definitely get better... She even asked Jonas to play a few more games of Aeroplane Chess with her, declaring that she would utterly crush him afterward.
But with Miss Esnie still waiting outside, Jonas politely declined Miss Celine's proposal and promised to play Aeroplane Chess with her again on his next visit.
When Jonas stepped out of the hospital room, he immediately spotted Miss Esnie dozing in the corridor.
Apparently, the long wait had made the girl drift off without realizing it.
Seeing her nodding off, her head bobbing again and again, Jonas couldn't help feeling a little guilty.
He went over and rubbed Miss Esnie's head, rousing her from her drowsy haze.
"Mr. Jonas...?"
"Let's head back to the Alt Branch. Sorry for the wait."
"Mm..."
To Jonas's surprise, Esnie didn't ask what they had discussed in the hospital room.
Only the faint reproach in her eyes seemed to give something away.
It left Jonas feeling rather moved.
What a lovely girl...
Too bad she met me.
Clearly, Mr. Jonas had a very accurate understanding of himself.
