Ji Chi turned back to glance at Huo Jin.
The moment he turned, a warm embrace enveloped him, its heat sending his heart fluttering.
"Can I hold you?" The half-asleep voice was languid, low, and rich.
Ji Chi felt his waist being held firmly in place.
It was hot, burning like a furnace.
Huo Jin's chest pressed tightly against his back, his heartbeat strong and steady.
It made Ji Chi feel safe, yet surrounded by danger.
Ji Chi stiffened all over and no longer dared to move.
"Can I say no?"
"Chi..." Huo Jin's breathing grew heavier. "You'd better not move."
Ji Chi clutched the covers, bunching them into thick folds.
If Huo Jin did anything while he was awake...
He probably wouldn't have the strength to resist, either.
Ji Chi stayed still, trying hard to steady his emotions.
The comforting scent of cold purple sandalwood lingered around him.
Huo Jin didn't do anything else that crossed the line.
At most, his restless hand wandered over Ji Chi's waist.
Gradually, Ji Chi grew sleepy.
Once he was sound asleep, Ji Chi turned over as though in a dream, the familiar pheromones making him instinctively want to draw closer and lean on Huo Jin.
Ji Chi nestled into Huo Jin's arms of his own accord and nuzzled him comfortably.
Huo Jin's eyes were open. He gently brushed aside the few strands of hair covering Ji Chi's eyelids.
The faint tickle drew a soft murmur from Ji Chi.
Huo Jin kissed Ji Chi's forehead, then closed his eyes contentedly with an arm around his waist.
The sizzling filled the room like cozy background music. After washing up, Ji Chi sat on the sofa dealing with work while Huo Jin made breakfast.
The scent of buttered toast was light and pleasant.
When Ji Chi had gone to the sink that morning, he had discovered that Huo Jin had bought him new toiletries. The toothbrush and toothpaste were both new.
Pretty thoughtful.
Before long, Huo Jin brought breakfast to the table.
Ji Chi sat down at the table without standing on ceremony.
Afraid that Huo Jin might change his mind to his detriment, Ji Chi finished breakfast at lightning speed, then picked up Huo Jin's identification documents.
"Let's go."
"Let's get married."
Huo Jin rose unhurriedly, and Ji Chi followed in a rush.
They went to the Supreme Authority's special marriage registry.
Because of Huo Jin's special status, their marriage had to be entered into the records database, so they spent quite a while at the registry.
During that time, Ji Chi saw several newlywed couples being lovey-dovey and felt increasingly as though he and Huo Jin were there to sign a contract.
No, that was exactly what they were there to do.
"Please come over for your photo." The staff member respectfully indicated the red backdrop to one side.
Ji Chi suddenly felt warmth in his palm. Huo Jin had taken his hand. "Let's go."
He had wanted to shake him off, but on second thought, they had already done everything else. This little bit of physical contact hardly mattered.
Whatever.
Once the photo was taken, it was affixed to their marriage certificates and stamped with the official seal.
There was a click.
The sound of the machine pressing down the official seal seemed to swell endlessly in Ji Chi's ears.
Everything else was drowned out.
From this moment on.
He and Huo Jin were partners.
Partners recognized by law.
A bond that could not be desecrated or treated as a joke.
"Congratulations on your marriage." Smiling warmly, the staff member offered their congratulations and held out the marriage certificates with both hands.
Ji Chi didn't answer.
Huo Jin took the certificates. "Thank you."
Just as they turned around, two Alphas suddenly approached from one side.
They looked very young and inexperienced.
It seemed they had worked up a great deal of courage before coming over.
"You're Judge Huo, aren't you?!" one of the Alphas asked boldly, his excitement audible.
Huo Jin's expression remained calm. "Huo Jin."
"It really is you!! I admire you so much. I'm in the Huachang Biology Department too. I'm your junior!"
"I came with a friend to deliver equipment here. I never thought I'd run into you!"
"Are you here to retrieve some records, sir?" The Alpha deliberately adopted a familiar tone.
The Alpha gazed at Huo Jin with burning enthusiasm. "Could... could I take a photo with you?"
Before Huo Jin could speak.
Ji Chi shot him an icy look. "This isn't a good time."
The other Alpha's expression turned disdainful at Ji Chi's words. "We were asking Mr. Huo. Why are you butting in?"
"Exactly. Who are you to make decisions for him?"
An inexplicable anger rose in Ji Chi.
Whatever his relationship with Huo Jin was, their contract stated it clearly.
For three years, neither of them could engage in any intimate behavior with anyone else.
The moment this Alpha arrived, he had made a point of explaining that he was only at the marriage registry on an errand.
Wasn't his intention obvious enough? Besides, they were married now. What was wrong with being a little sensitive? If Huo Jin fooled around, he'd cut his dick off.
Ji Chi glanced at Huo Jin and demanded angrily, "Are you coming or not?"
Huo Jin's lips curved slightly, unmistakable pleasure coloring his face. "I am."
He looked at the two Alphas before him and said indifferently, "Sorry, my wife won't let me."
Then his voice took on a chill. "And in our family, my wife really does call the shots."
Ji Chi froze, nearly biting his tongue. Wife?
That rolled off his tongue awfully easily!
The Alpha who had called himself Huo Jin's junior looked startled. He didn't remember Huo Jin getting married.
How could he suddenly have a wife?
"Sir... you're... married?"
Ji Chi answered the Alpha, looking thoroughly displeased. "Huo Jin earned his doctorate at Tis National University of Commerce. Get in there first before calling yourself his junior."
The Alpha was speechless for a long moment.
After hearing Ji Chi's words, the Alpha had enough sense to take the hint and immediately apologized to him.
"Sorry, I'm so sorry. I didn't know Judge Huo was married. I was a little presumptuous just now. Please don't misunderstand."
Ji Chi walked over to the registry's free wedding candy and grabbed a handful for each of them.
"It's fine. We just got married."
"Have some wedding candy."
