Background / History

Encounter and temporary mark

Ji Chi approaches Huo Jin at Lingxin Bar, initially mistaking him for an Omega. Their encounter results in Huo Jin marking Ji Chi, despite Ji Chi being an Alpha. After three days together, Ji Chi offers money and demands that Huo Jin sign a contract prohibiting further contact. Huo Jin refuses the coercive terms, offers to take responsibility, and writes his private number on Ji Chi’s palm 5 23.

Huo Jin subsequently apologizes and promises that Ji Chi can seek him out for comfort, pheromones, or even to vent while the temporary mark remains. Although he says he will accept Ji Chi’s wish to cut ties, he later reveals that he was fully conscious when he placed the mark 7 22.

Identity revealed and Boshen investigation

When Yan Le brings Ji Chi to the CE Research Center, Huo Jin formally introduces himself as its chief adjudicator and an adjudicator of the Supreme Universal Council. Ji Chi realizes that the man he has been avoiding is also the official he admires 9.

Boshen Group’s suppressant scandal prompts Ji Chi to contact him for help. Huo Jin initially refuses a business favor and insists that the company answer for its management failures, but agrees to examine more complete documentation. He eventually signs all twenty-six testing applications personally and tells Ji Chi that results may be available in three days, rather than the usual six-month process 13 16 21 22.

The resulting Supreme Authority report confirms that Boshen’s products exceed safety standards and traces the harmful suppressant to before the company’s acquisition. Boshen’s reputation and stock price recover 26.

Rejection and heat crisis

Ji Chi refuses to repay Huo Jin’s help with affection or intimacy and explicitly demands distance. Huo Jin nevertheless forcibly kisses him. Ji Chi slaps him, and Huo Jin leaves without retaliating; the conflict does not stop him from following through on Boshen’s testing 23 26.

During Ji Chi’s second heat, an accidental call reaches Huo Jin, whom Ji Chi mistakes for Gu Baizhou. Huo Jin conceals his identity because he fears Ji Chi will hang up. After learning that Ji Chi has taken three suppressant doses despite a one-per-day limit, he guides him to a pheromone-filled Springstone bracelet hidden inside his stuffed rabbit 28 29.

When Ji Chi later leaves home in distress, Huo Jin searches for him with Zhou Qi’s help. He finds him being mocked outside a bar, defeats the surrounding Alphas, and takes him home. There, he treats Ji Chi’s injuries and initially refuses further intimacy because Ji Chi is affected by suppressants and may regret it when lucid 31 33 34.

Cohabitation and marriage

After their period of closeness, Huo Jin openly admits that he likes Ji Chi. Ji Chi rejects him and smashes his phone, leaving Huo Jin privately struggling to contain his distress through calligraphy 39.

Ji Chi eventually returns with a suitcase and a lawyer-drafted, three-year cohabitation contract containing more than a thousand conditions. Its terms assign household chores to Huo Jin, prohibit abandonment and pheromone suppression, and require Ji Chi’s consent before boundaries are crossed. Huo Jin agrees but adds one condition: marriage 40 41 42.

Marriage provides legal protections beyond the private contract: the special constitution strips an Enigma spouse of certain rights to enforce equality. They register their marriage, after which Huo Jin offers Ji Chi his salary card and begins leaving work early to cook for him 43 45.

Married life and protection

Ji Chi remains emotionally distant and, on the seventeenth day of cohabitation, gives Huo Jin a signed divorce agreement intended to take effect after three years. Huo Jin accepts it without protest, but continues caring for him 46.

When powerful Alphas ambush Ji Chi, Huo Jin rushes to rescue him despite sustaining injuries en route. He subdues the attackers, directs the Supreme Authority’s response, and accompanies Ji Chi to the hospital. During Ji Chi’s third heat, he finally voices how much the repeated rejection hurts and asks Ji Chi not to offer affection during heat only to withdraw it afterward 46.

After Lin Jun is hospitalized, Huo Jin again comes to Ji Chi’s side. He removes his cigarette, soothes him with pheromones, and embraces him when he begins to cry 49.
