Pei Yanchuan hid around the corner, watching the man in a suit lie slumped there, half dead.
It was none of his business anyway, so Pei Yanchuan decided to slip away quietly. Before he could even take a step, however, the suited man looked in his direction and spoke with difficulty. "Who's there?"
His senses were sharp, at least. Pei Yanchuan said nothing, watching him quietly from the shadows.
The suited man continued, "Whoever you are, please... save me..."
Qi Yu struggled to get those words out. Ever since childhood, he had stood out among the Person-Eaters. Person-Eaters already had an advantage in the struggle for survival between species, and within that advantaged race, he had been born the strongest.
Everything had gone smoothly for him since birth. Everyone who met him respectfully called him "Master Qi." Back then, he probably never would have imagined that he would one day find himself somewhere unfamiliar, begging someone whose face he hadn't even seen.
Pei Yanchuan stepped out from around the corner and warily studied the blood-soaked man.
Qi Yu froze briefly when he saw Pei Yanchuan's face, then smiled, revealing two pointed teeth. "Looks like I guessed right."
Confused, Pei Yanchuan crouched down and looked him straight in the eyes. "Who are you? Have we met?"
"You might not know me," Qi Yu said softly, "but that person with you, Ye Chu, knows me."
Pei Yanchuan frowned. "Ye Chu... who's that?"
Qi Yu fell silent for a few seconds. The look in the other man's eyes didn't seem like a lie. "You don't remember?"
"I lost my memory."
"Your memory?" Qi Yu didn't know why those words left him feeling both disappointed and happy. If that person was here too, did that mean... they still had a chance to start over?
