Background / History
Childhood in the Pei Family
Pei Yanchuan grew up in Jing City’s most powerful crime family. His father controlled businesses on both sides of the law, had multiple children, and enforced a household doctrine that anyone without value could be killed. He killed Pei’s mother when Pei was four. The family trained its children to fight, use weapons, and wield influence 114.
At ten, Pei escaped after an older opponent severely beat him, but collapsed from his injuries. Thirteen-year-old Ye Chu found him and secretly sheltered him in a deserted hut. When Pei refused to go to a hospital, Ye Chu treated his wounds himself, then returned with food, medicine, a strawberry lollipop, and a borrowed novel. The boys never exchanged names 114 115.
Pei eventually agreed to return with a family enforcer, insisting that Ye Chu must not be harmed. The family arranged to erase Ye Chu’s memories of their three days together with an injection. Instead of punishing Pei, his father had his injuries treated 115 117.
Winning His Freedom
After returning, Pei trained obsessively in fighting and shooting, building the strength he needed to leave. Memories of Ye Chu helped him retain a sense of humanity. He rejected religious salvation, believing that Ye Chu—not a god—had rescued him 115.
At fifteen, he defeated a larger, older man in the fighting ring and gained his father’s approval, along with access to internal information and resources. At seventeen, he held a knife to his father’s throat and demanded his freedom. He also threatened to expose enough information to bring down the family 115 116.
His father allowed him to leave, but deliberately unsettled him with suggestions about what had happened to his childhood rescuer. Pei spent years searching for that boy despite no longer remembering his name or appearance. His encounter with Ye Chu in the survival game revived his feelings: what Ye Chu understood as their first meeting was, for Pei, a long-awaited reunion 116.
Appearance
Pei has sharp, striking features that can make him look fierce when concentrating, contrasted by large, round eyes frequently likened to a puppy’s. His usual hairstyle and accessories give him a rebellious appearance 76 116.
- Hair: A wolf cut with dyed highlights, including a conspicuous red streak. Ye Chu trims it when it becomes overgrown 17 66.
- Smile: A small pointed canine gives his grin a cocky or mischievous edge 5 66.
- Height: Taller than Ye Chu, described as approximately half a head taller when they hide together 58.
- Accessories: Wears an iron necklace 116.
- Marks: Has callused fingertips and scars on his back, which Ye Chu notices before learning about his childhood 117.
- Wolf form: A large black wolf; his eyes turn red as his awareness deteriorates during the hospital escape 9 14.
Personality
Pei combines a cheerful, teasing manner with considerable nerve and a willingness to use violence. In the first Werewolf game, he openly argues that preserving intelligent players gives the survivors a better chance in later instances. Even when confronted by hostile players, he remains outwardly relaxed and smiling 7 8.
He is defiant toward threats and authority, often treating danger as something to challenge rather than avoid. After suffering serious injuries in a fight, he insists that making the enemy suffer more still counts as victory. This confidence repeatedly draws reprimands from his more cautious companions 31 32 33.
Around Ye Chu, his behavior becomes markedly softer. He seeks reassurance, exaggerates injuries to receive attention, and readily becomes flustered by sincere affection. His playful vulnerability can be deliberate, although a system-induced wolf “sensitive phase” also causes genuine insecurity and tears 32 33 46 57 60.
Despite his ruthless upbringing, Pei protects people who cannot defend themselves. He stands against armed rebels to shield Person-Eater women and children, and later helps a wounded Qi Yu even while suffering from amnesia. He ultimately values an ordinary life with Ye Chu more than inheriting the Pei Family’s power 62 63 104 117.
Abilities & Skills

- Fights alongside Wu You in wolf form; together they overpower the school’s PE Teacher 33 34.
- Later develops selective transformation, producing a wolf paw while otherwise remaining human 85.
- Initially retains only limited awareness. During Illusion Paradox, he loses rational control, howls loudly enough to attract monsters, and pins Ye Chu down after reaching the hospital 10 14.
- Remembers his actions after returning to human form and worries that Ye Chu will blame him 15.
- Experiences emotional instability and insecurity during a wolf “sensitive phase,” which the system attributes to a lingering bug. The phase has ended by the time Ye Chu catches him pretending otherwise 57 60.

- His physical conditioning makes university military training relatively easy, though he tells Ye Chu that he is exhausted to receive affection 136.

Improvisation and Rule Exploitation
- Talks his way out of being late by claiming the time is “six eighty-nine,” an answer the teacher accepts 31.
- Turns a compulsory praise essay into absurd mockery to resist its brainwashing effect. This requires concentration: when distracted, his writing changes into sincere praise until Su Fengzi alerts him 37 38.
- Remains unaffected by the Laboratory Building illusion that traps his companions and punches Su Fengzi awake. He attributes his escape to luck; no permanent immunity is established 43.
- Redirects onlookers toward the Town Chief’s feast, creating an opening for Ye Chu to incapacitate the guards and rescue Su Fengzi 91.
First Aid
- Neatly bandages Ye Chu’s wrist before their journey to the hospital 14.
- While amnesiac, treats Qi Yu’s wounds with strips of torn clothing and shares food with him 104.

- Su Fengzi — Friend and teasing rival. Pei helps him academically and wakes him from an illusion; Su recognizes Pei’s feelings and encourages Ye Chu to consider dating him 37 43 76.
- Lu Rui — Protective teammate who disciplines his recklessness. He immediately obeys her command to release Ye Chu while transformed, and she later helps him recover buried memories 9 33 114.
- Ye Mo — Ye Chu’s protective older brother. Their first maze encounter is awkward because Pei flirts with Ye Chu while amnesiac; after recovering his memories, Pei anxiously tries to improve the impression he made 101 113 116.
