If Spell Spirits were an arcanist's lovers, then Void Wings were an arcanist's spouse.
You could have many Spell Spirits. You could choose them according to your preferences, swap them out as you pleased, and even if every Spell Spirit left you, it would not matter, because as long as you had the ability, you could always make a comeback. But Void Wings were different. Void Wings were personal, irreplaceable, and had to be cherished with the utmost care. Without Void Wings, an arcanist was as good as having nothing.
An arcanist could have many Spell Spirits in his lifetime, but the only thing that could accompany him through his entire life was his Void Wings.
