Even though Lucario had avoided direct hits from Hydro Pump and Hydro Cannon, the shattered ice and Blastoise's shell had still inflicted some damage.
And even setting that aside, dodging moves took stamina, especially with Blastoise's precise control of Ice Beam.

Blastoise's shell took on another layer of dark gray sheen.
"Extreme Speed, then Close Combat again!"
Lucario's fists left one white imprint after another on the shell beneath them.

During the earlier battle with Lance, his Dragonite could, at most, have been considered part of his third-string lineup.

Only Siebold's starter Pokémon, Clawitzer, matched Blastoise in strength.

Mega Blastoise withdrew into his shell, relying on Iron Defense to boost his defense, but Lucario's fists never stopped.

The battlefield, previously frozen solid by Ice Beam, was now riddled with pits and dotted with puddles...
