It wasn't that Li Wei was splashing out. The Master League organizers had booked his flight and hotel, so he didn't have to spend a penny.

Li Wei answered Dawn's video call.
"Dawn, what's up?"
A beaming Dawn appeared on the screen, along with Piplup's enormous face. Clearly, something wonderful had happened.

"Teacher, guess what I caught!"
Sensing Dawn's excitement, Lucario, Diancie, and the others crowded around to peer curiously at the screen.
Li Wei recalled the time Lana had reeled in Kyogre...
Could she have caught Kyogre?
"Kyogre?" Li Wei ventured.
Dawn puffed out her cheeks and said indignantly, "What? How could anyone possibly reel in Kyogre?"
Li Wei couldn't help laughing. "Just because you can't doesn't mean you should underestimate everyone else. Someone has."
The corner of Dawn's mouth twitched.
"Don't tell me it was you?"
Li Wei shrugged.
"No, I wasn't that lucky."
"If your luck is bad, then who on earth has good luck?" Dawn retorted.
All right, Li Wei had to admit he was very lucky. That left only one other explanation.
"Uh... then it's because I'm no good at fishing."
Dawn couldn't help chuckling. "So there actually are things you can't do, Teacher."
"Plenty of them."
Li Wei steered the conversation back on track.
"Anyway, what did you catch?"
Dawn took out a Dive Ball.
"Hehe, just watch."
Dawn switched to her rear-facing camera and aimed it at the river in front of her. "Time to shine!"
