Ye Ruan rubbed his ear between his fingers, glanced at Gu Cheng, then lowered his head and whispered:
"Ye... Ruan."
"Ye Xiao Ruan?"
Yu Jingjing let out a wow.
"What a cute name!"
Gu Cheng discreetly pushed Yu Jingjing's face aside.
"You're the little lop-eared rabbit from just now?"
Ye Ruan nodded emphatically, his furry ears bobbing twice.
Yu Jingjing squealed, "Eee! So cute!"
He really was cute.
Ye Ruan looked over with those innocent, dewy doe eyes.
That gaze made hearts itch.
Gu Cheng coughed and asked:
"Ye Ruan, why are you here alone? Are you part of the special person team too?"
Ye Ruan hurriedly backed away a little.
"Yes..."
The man's imposing presence was lethal to him.
Instinctive fear made Ye Ruan want to flee.
He noticed the boy's slightly hunched back and the hands clutching his white ears.
Gu Cheng laughed. "Don't be nervous. We don't eat people."
But you eat bunnies.
Spicy bunny, Ye Ruan thought. You said it yourselves.
Yu Jingjing squeezed her way over with easy familiarity.
"Hello, bunny! I'm Yu Jingjing, a black cat special person!"
Yu Jingjing grabbed Ye Ruan's hand and shook it twice.
"Can I touch your ears?" Yu Jingjing's eyes shone.
Ye Ruan blushed, sensing a gentle aura from the girl before him.
So he took her hand himself and placed it on his ear.
Yu Jingjing gently squeezed it, reluctant to let go.
"So soft and fluffy. It feels so nice."
Gu Cheng casually shot a few zombies that wandered over, catching sight of Yu Jingjing still squeezing the rabbit's ears out of the corner of his eye.
He reminded her, "The zombies are closing in. Girl, check where Fang and the others are."
Yu Jingjing reluctantly withdrew her hand.
Suddenly, the ground began to tremble!
Gu Cheng's expression changed, and he tilted his head to listen closely for two seconds.
"Go! A zombie horde is coming!"
A powerful stench of decay drifted toward them on the wind from nearby!
The distinctive howls of zombies drew closer.
Yu Jingjing vaulted straight over the roof of the Biohazard Vehicle, landed neatly, and slipped into the driver's seat.
"Boss! Get in!"
Gu Cheng put his gun away and bent down, just about to climb in.
In that instant, an inexplicable chill crept into his heart!
Gu Cheng instinctively looked up and met Ye Ruan's gaze; the boy was staring behind him, his pupils contracting sharply.
The next moment, a black shadow blotted out the sky above the vehicle!
The thing came crashing straight toward Gu Cheng!
Ye Ruan reacted instantly, his slender, pale fingers clamping around Gu Cheng's arm as he yanked the man toward him!
Bang!
A tall, fat zombie slammed into the concrete!
Yu Jingjing floored the accelerator and shot forward.
Caught off guard, the two in the back tumbled into a heap.
Ye Ruan grunted under Gu Cheng's weight and pressed his hands against his shoulders, trying to push him away.
Gu Cheng was in no hurry to get up. Bracing a palm beside Ye Ruan's neck, he raised an eyebrow and grinned.
"How's a little bunny this strong?"
Ye Ruan turned his head away from Gu Cheng's warm breath, his eyes shimmering.
One look at him, and he seemed all too easy to bully.
"Could you... please... get up?"
Ye Ruan twitched his ears. Even his tail hurt beneath the man's weight.
Gu Cheng paused for two seconds before slowly getting up.
His strong, hot arm slipped behind Ye Ruan's back, and he lifted him with one hand.
Still shaken in the passenger seat, Li Rang glanced back out the window.
"What the fuck was that thing? Scared the shit out of me!"
Gu Cheng lazily rested his head against his hand.
"A level-three mutant zombie. It ate plenty of zombies to turn into that thing."
"Don't be afraid."
Gu Cheng said this while looking at the little white bunny beside him.
Gu Cheng grinned, revealing his bright white teeth and making the pointed fang at the corner of his mouth even more noticeable.
"It's busy trying to eat zombies right now. It won't chase us."
Yu Jingjing tapped the tablet a few times, then sent the vehicle into a sharp turn, its tires screeching against the road.
"I see Fang and the others!"
Another vehicle was speeding along directly ahead of the Biohazard Vehicle.
Honk!
The oncoming off-road vehicle blared its horn.
Gu Cheng immediately sat upright. "Turn! There's something behind them too!"
But his warning came too late. Yu Jingjing hadn't let up on the accelerator at all.
The Biohazard Vehicle swept past the off-road vehicle, close enough for them to see their companions' terrified eyes inside.
"Brake!"
Gu Cheng saw what was on the road ahead and suddenly roared.
But it was already too late. The Biohazard Vehicle plunged straight into the embrace of a monster whose "complicated" appearance defied description!
"Fuck!"
In that split second, all Gu Cheng could do was pull the little bunny who had just saved him into his arms and shield him.
Ye Ruan instantly turned back into a rabbit, curling into a white ball and shamelessly using Gu Cheng as a human shield.
A deafening crash rang out.
The monster was knocked off its feet and sent flying four or five meters!
The front of the Biohazard Vehicle crumpled instantly, and the tremendous momentum hurled the three people and one rabbit inside in the same direction!
Yu Jingjing and Li Rang went airborne within the cramped space.
They exchanged bewildered, terrified looks before both smashing through the extra-thick tempered glass of the windows!
With the front seat blocking his way, Gu Cheng adjusted his position before he was thrown upward, his back slamming into the driver's seat.
He scooped the little white ball of fur into his arms and sheltered him in his palms, leaving him completely unharmed.
Wails rose from the two in front.
Yu Jingjing and Li Rang were stuck in the shattered windows, sprawled awkwardly and looking half-dead.
Gu Cheng frowned and slowly rose, his body stiff.
Ye Ruan reappeared, his soft, pale fingers resting on Gu Cheng's arm.
"I-I'll help you..."
"Thanks. Hiss... I think I broke a bone."
Looking utterly frail, Gu Cheng took the opportunity to lean into the crook of Ye Ruan's shoulder and whimper.
"Oww... my leg's gonna break..."
Ye Ruan felt something was off.
As Gu Cheng wailed, he secretly turned his head and sniffed. The little bunny smelled sweetly of strawberry milk candy.
Near his mouth, the scent was even sweeter.
"Boss! Are you guys okay?"
Two men ran over from outside and bent down to find Gu Cheng in a strange position-nestled against an unfamiliar white-haired, red-eyed boy as though taking liberties with him.
Gu Cheng clicked his tongue inwardly, deeply displeased that the two had appeared at this particular moment.
Putting on an act, Gu Cheng pulled away from Ye Ruan with apparent difficulty and twisted his sturdy shoulders twice as if in pain.
"Hiss. Good thing you didn't get hit, little bunny, or you'd have broken bones today."
Hearing that, Ye Ruan felt a little embarrassed instead.
At that critical moment, Gu Cheng had pulled him over and protected him.
Ye Ruan helplessly scratched his ears, his red eyes blinking as he said softly:
"Thank you. I'll repay you."
The little bunny was innocent, completely unaware that he had fallen into a trap.
"At a time like this, you're still flirting!"
One of the men outside roared, yanked the two people embedded in the front windows free, and hoisted one onto his shoulder while the other man took the other.
"Hurry! The level-three zombie is coming again!"
Without further delay, Gu Cheng wrapped an arm around Ye Ruan's waist, brought him out of the mangled vehicle, and sprinted in the opposite direction.
Lifted off his feet by Gu Cheng's one-handed grip, Ye Ruan looked up at the monster they had hit.
It was a level-three zombie, with eight jointed spider legs growing from its body.
Its torso, however, was still human.
Two black venomous fangs protruded from its mouth, dripping viscous liquid.
