"Yu Jingjing!"
Tang Yi suddenly raised her hand and swung it at Yu Jingjing's face!
Yu Jingjing sneered and was about to strike back.
But Ye Ruan moved like lightning from behind her, seizing Tang Yi's wrist!
Ye Ruan stared straight at her with his red eyes.
The survivors nearby whispered among themselves. No one stepped forward to intervene; some even looked a little excited.
At last, there was some entertainment to break up their days of fear.
Drama! A show to watch!
Tang Yi couldn't bear the humiliation. She was very popular with the men at the base.
How was she supposed to face anyone after this scene?
Tang Yi struggled desperately, shrieking, "Get lost! Let go of me, you monster!"
She tried to kick the silver-haired boy in front of her.
The grip on her wrist abruptly tightened!
She couldn't believe Ye Ruan's slender fingers could exert so much force.
His five fingers seemed to sink into her flesh, visibly crushing her wrist out of shape!
Ye Ruan's voice was calm, even a little soft and childish.
"Apologize!"
Tears streamed down Tang Yi's face from the pain. Reluctantly, she said:
"I'm sorry."
Ye Ruan abruptly let go, a flicker of killing intent crossing his alluring red eyes.
The boy lifted his chin slightly, looking down at Tang Yi and her older brother.
"From now on, no cutting in line."
Tang Yi nodded repeatedly through her tears. "I understand, I understand..."
The tap was clear now. Ye Ruan walked around the two of them and carefully brushed his teeth for three minutes with his little bunny toothbrush.
Tang Yi cradled her agonizing wrist. Five dark purple finger marks had appeared on her skin, and even the slightest movement hurt.
Ye Ruan ignored the wailing and curses behind him. It was still a pretty nice morning.
When he returned to the biohazard vehicle, Gu Cheng was sitting on the steps, wiping down his guns.
Yu Jingjing walked with a spring in her step. "Little Ye Ruan, you're amazing!"
Ye Ruan smiled shyly. "You stood up for me first."
"We're friends!"
Yu Jingjing patted Ye Ruan on the shoulder.
"I especially love rabbits!"
Fang Ci, who was sitting nearby, chimed in with a smile.
"Right, you especially love spicy diced rabbit and rabbit hot pot."
Yu Jingjing clicked her tongue. "Don't talk nonsense. Don't drive a wedge between me and Little Ye Ruan! He's easily frightened!"
Seeing the terror in Ye Ruan's eyes, Yu Jingjing quickly raised her hand to swear an oath.
"We're good friends. I swear that, for your sake, I'll never eat bunny again!"
With his life at stake, Ye Ruan hastily nodded.
"Rabbits don't taste good. I'll give you something else that's tasty!"
"Deal!"
Yu Jingjing rubbed her hands together. "All the food you've stocked up on is so delicious."
"I'll get you some cream bread."
As he spoke, Ye Ruan was about to reach into his Storage Wristband.
Gu Cheng pulled Yu Jingjing aside.
"Keep it for yourself. We've still got food. Save yours for emergencies."
Gu Cheng slid his well-defined fingers into Ye Ruan's soft hair and ruffled it.
"Come have breakfast, little rabbit."
Ye Ruan smoothed down the hair Gu Cheng had mussed and walked over to the wall, where Gu Cheng and the others had set up a small stove.
Fang Ci had made vegetable porridge with some chopped ham and dehydrated vegetables.
A pot of thick, fragrant vegetable porridge was ready.
Ye Ruan still secretly slipped Yu Jingjing a bag of cream bread.
His own team had female members too, but Ye Ruan liked stockpiling supplies, so none of his teammates had gone hungry during their earlier mission to South City.
The team Gu Cheng led had been in South City longer, and their Storage Wristband had been damaged, leaving them short of food.
Special humans needed to eat large amounts of food. Without enough to eat, they couldn't fight at their best.
Yu Jingjing wolfed down the cream bread, tears glimmering in her eyes. She turned away, not daring to let anyone else see.
After finishing his bowl of vegetable porridge, Ye Ruan licked the corner of his mouth, his eyes curving slightly.
A full stomach put him in a good mood.
The weather was gloomy that day. There hadn't been a ray of sunshine all morning, and dark clouds filled the sky.
The wind picked up before noon. The scrapyard had only a few small break rooms where they could shelter from it.
Those rooms had already been given to the elderly and the children.
The remaining survivors could only wrap themselves tightly in warm clothes or blankets and stand beneath the eaves, watching the approaching downpour.
Ye Ruan wore the jacket Gu Cheng had warmed for him, with a grape-flavored candy in his mouth.
His hearing was good, and he personally enjoyed listening to all kinds of sounds.
Especially when things were relatively quiet.
Now, all he could hear was the wind howling past.
It was as shrill as a whistle.
Suddenly, a faint sound came from the gate, far away from Ye Ruan.
Ye Ruan stopped biting his candy.
None of the other members of Team One had heard that strange noise.
Ye Ruan scanned the surrounding survivors. None of them looked alarmed.
But he was certain there was something outside the gate!
Ye Ruan walked toward the gate and took out a gun fitted with a suppressor. The loose sleeve of his hoodie covered half the back of his hand.
He walked all the way to the gate, and not one of the survivors chatting nearby noticed that he was holding a gun.
Yu Jingjing, who had been relaxing nearby, noticed something was wrong and slapped Gu Cheng on the back.
"Quick, why is your bunny heading for the gate?!"
Gu Cheng looked up and saw that the silver-haired boy was already standing behind the gate.
One glance was enough for Gu Cheng to know something was wrong. He got up and strode toward Ye Ruan.
"Fang Ci, grab your weapon!"
Fang Ci frowned and picked up his gun. "Are there zombies coming? I haven't heard anything."
Yu Jingjing said, "Neither have I, and I've got the best hearing out of all of us."
Before Yu Jingjing had finished speaking, the iron gate suddenly let out an enormous bang!
The survivors' nerves instantly tightened. With another deafening crash, the iron gate was suddenly battered out of shape.
A huge bulge appeared in the previously sturdy iron gate!
The crowd let out shrill screams of terror. At the same time, Ye Ruan heard Gu Cheng shout sternly:
"Ye Ruan! Get away from the gate!"
Ye Ruan did take a few steps back.
"Come here," Gu Cheng said as he ran toward the boy.
Just as he was about to wrap an arm around Ye Ruan's shoulders, the boy shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bow.
Ye Ruan planted a foot on the gate's bolt, pushed off, and vaulted onto the gate!
The iron gate was over three meters high, but Ye Ruan was light and agile. He was already standing on top without much effort.
Ye Ruan aimed at the monster outside and decisively pulled the trigger!
After a strange noise, everything outside went silent.
The whole sequence took only a few seconds.
At the same time, Gu Cheng leaped up, fired another shot, then hoisted Ye Ruan over his shoulder and jumped back into the yard.
Smack!
A slap, neither hard nor soft, landed on Ye Ruan's bottom.
Ye Ruan froze, his eyes widening.
Two seconds later, his eyes misted over.
"Gu Cheng!"
Gu Cheng grunted in acknowledgment and put him down, only to see tears shimmering in Ye Ruan's eyes as he looked utterly pitiful.
Gu Cheng's heart softened. He cleared his throat and deliberately said:
"No teamwork, no discipline. You charged out all by yourself. What if something had happened?"
Ye Ruan's cheeks puffed out slightly in anger, redness spreading from the corners of his eyes across his cheeks.
"But you... still can't... hit me there!"
Gu Cheng teased, "Where did I hit you?"
The man was far too shameless, while Ye Ruan was far too easily embarrassed. He really couldn't bring himself to say those words. His bright red lips parted, but he closed his mouth again.
