The residents were indignant when they heard, and eagerly offered to help the priest find the missing nuns.
Seeing their determination, a barely perceptible trace of mockery flashed through Mo Yu's dark eyes. He pressed his palms together and solemnly expressed his gratitude:
"God will watch over his faithful."
Shen Ru had been waiting at a street corner for some time. When he saw the man approaching with a huge crowd behind him, he hastily tugged the black veil on his head loose and askew, then rubbed his cheeks hard enough to leave red marks.
He looked as though he had just fled from somewhere, a thin sheen of sweat on his forehead and his full, crimson lips slightly dry.
Feigning panic, Shen Ru ran toward the priest. Even in his apparent terror, he remembered to maintain a proper distance, stopping about a meter away from the man before speaking in a voice filled with anguish:
"I saw them... in the Town Mayor's house..."
An uproar swept through the crowd.
They had offered to help the priest find the nuns, but if it involved the Town Mayor's house, they were still afraid.
