The thin morning mist hung outside the window. It was flood discharge season, and the river surged past outside, bringing a gentle breeze. Willows swayed their branches, and sparrows rested among them.
It was September, the tail end of summer.
In the southwestern basin, the weather was still hot. They could even hear cicadas buzzing outside the window.
"Mr. 39, how long are you going to keep me under supervision?"
Wei Yanchi gazed at him pleadingly.
"Who knows?"
Xie De took a bottle of peach-flavored cocktail out of the refrigerator. Figuring out what to do with Wei Yanchi was giving him a headache too. When 730 had dumped Wei Yanchi on him, it had made it clear that he was the only one who could keep this guy in line.
It had also described Wei Yanchi as so dangerous that it had all but said he could destroy the world.
He opened the bottle and took a few drinks, using the commanding tone he had habitually adopted during his time as the Colonel. "You can leave, but you must report your itinerary to me every day. Also, you are forbidden from using the dragon's power. If you do, you bear the consequences."
Wei Yanchi kept watching him, his gaze moving from the hand holding the cocktail to his neck. He blinked slowly, as though lost in a daze. "Mr. 39... can I stay with you for a while?"
"Suit yourself."
The supervisor had less patience than the person under supervision.
Xie De checked the time. "I can only stay here for five hours."
Wei Yanchi grinned, his smile bold and dazzling. Who knew what he was so foolishly happy about?
"So Mr. 39 has five hours to spend with me?"
Xie De sipped his cocktail and felt that there was
