Juelu genuinely thought Wei Yanchi was asking for a beating. He could still smile at a time like this, and he had done an impressive job of keeping his relationship secret, not letting so much as a rumor slip.
Wei Yanchi said with a radiant grin, "I'd better keep it secret. I'm afraid you'd die of shock if I told you."

Juelu raised an eyebrow and looked him up and down, her mockery utterly unrestrained. "You think you could shock me? Don't be ridiculous. Even if your partner were the president or a demon, it wouldn't mean anything special to me."
A mischievous glint crossed Wei Yanchi's eyes, but he only curled his lips into a smile and said nothing, playing the cryptic tease to perfection.
Neither of them made any effort to keep their conversation private, so the other three people present naturally heard every word.
Silas smiled helplessly. "Let it go, darling. If he doesn't want to tell us, he doesn't have to. Besides, there are so many statues now that we can't tell who's who anymore."
