The early-winter Small Town was wrapped in cold, damp fog. It was a typical town in M Country, its houses looming through the mist, shards of ice hanging from their eaves. There was no snow, only a clammy chill.
Discarded newspapers and broken toys littered the streets. Wind swept fog past empty benches, their seats mottled and marked with dark stains.
This Small Town was the center of the Vampire instance. The instance completely enveloped everything within a three-kilometer radius, keeping the entire area shrouded in thick fog all day, never letting it see daylight.
Those who had failed to leave the Small Town immediately when the instance descended could no longer escape. They were trapped here together, their houses shut tight, even their breathing cautious.
Now, a resident quietly pulled back a corner of his curtain and warily watched the people walking down the street.
Three men and four women, dressed in practical clothes. There was no telling whether they carried weapons. Every one of them walked with light steps and an expressionless face. They exchanged no unnecessary words, their movements carrying a composure and ease ordinary people lacked.
Who were these people?
Federation agents?
The resident leaned closer, trying to get a better look. Suddenly, one of the men met his gaze. He was too far away for the resident to make out his face clearly; all he could tell was that the man was tall and had a distinctive air about him. With an offhand smile, the man walked straight toward him.
Oh my... shit!
The resident jerked backward.
Wei Yanchi knocked on the door. It flew open with a bang, and a hunting shotgun was shoved against his head. Behind the door stood a red-nosed man, watching Wei Yanchi with cold suspicion. "What do you want?"
