Background / History

Kong Yang was sent by the Kongyu Clan to study among humans. Unlike relatives who focused only on martial arts, he sought to understand the foundations behind humanity’s strength: its long historical development, values, and institutions. He spent eighty-seven years fighting for humanity and claimed more than two thousand kills against sixth-rank Evil Gods and Alien Races. 378 381

At Fortress 13, Kong Yang led the alien-dominated Shouyang Alliance, an organization with 500 teams of roughly ten members each. Its merit ranking rose partly because its growing number of scouts repeatedly entered rifts ahead of its core members. 378 379

Appearance

Kong Yang is a handsome young man who habitually carries a folding fan and reads yellowed ancient books even while stationed in Astral Rifts. 381 417

  • Often seen lightly fanning himself with a folding fan. 381
  • Keeps ancient human texts close at hand and reads them with evident enthusiasm. 381 389
  • Usually presents a composed, refined demeanor, though his anger becomes visible when his family is threatened or when he realizes he has been deceived. 388 417

Personality

Kong Yang is observant, articulate, and politically cautious. He recognizes that humanity’s power is not solely the result of martial arts, technology, or mecha, but the product of long-term social development. His interest in human texts comes from a genuine desire to learn how to “be human,” rather than merely acquire stronger techniques. 381 420

As leader of the Shouyang Alliance, he could be calculating and self-serving, framing dangerous scouting work as a newcomer’s necessary contribution to the team. Even so, he regarded Li Qingshan as a teammate and understood that sending someone first into an unknown rift was ultimately a risk he would otherwise have to bear himself. 378 385

After Li Qingshan’s identity was exposed, Kong Yang chose restraint over revenge. He acknowledged the danger of fighting an opponent who had flawlessly concealed his strength for over a year, later returning to the rift to save Li Qingshan despite believing him to be in mortal danger. 388 389 400

His strongest personal loyalty is to the Kongyu Clan, particularly his younger brother. Ye Hao’s eviction notices against Kongyu Clan members and Kong Bin’s forced renaming to Kong Xun pushed Kong Yang into open resentment toward the minister. 417

Abilities & Skills

Dharma Aspect Cultivation

Kong Yang possesses a 72-zhang Dharma Aspect and eventually advances to the Seventh Order, later reaching Divine Aspect Ten Orders. 385 860

  • His 72-zhang Dharma Aspect exceeded those of Kong Yin and the Niu brothers during their joint rift expedition. 385
  • He is considered one of the strongest and most important members among his peers by Che Yufei. 417
  • His ordinary “Gaseous Planet Body” cultivation reaches its stated limit at Divine Aspect Ten Orders. 860

Strategic Assessment

Kong Yang is adept at evaluating threats, team dynamics, and merit-ranking politics.

  • Correctly judged that Li Qingshan’s fabricated Great Sun Dharma Aspect traces were too flawless and rapid to gamble on confronting him. 389
  • Identified that continent-wide destruction without damaging underlying strata likely required a top-ten Merit Ranking prodigy. 381
  • Recognized Li Qingshan’s plans concerning Panlong and helped coordinate instructions for the Second Investigation Division and Ye Lei. 475
  • Compiled intelligence on Evil God Cultists, Panlong-linked sites, smuggling routes, and rival investigations for the Evil Slaying Department. 477 493

Administration and Intelligence Work

Kong Yang becomes a trusted administrator under Li Qingshan, handling communications and intelligence across increasingly vast jurisdictions. 768 772

  • Processed Evil Slaying Department documents and monitored renewed Evil God Cult activity in the Jiao Xiu District. 768
  • Managed communications with Ninth-Order figures and other major powers after Li Qingshan became the Formless General. 772
  • Was promoted from secretary to minister due to his knowledge and capability. 768

  • Kong Yin — Younger sister and fellow Kongyu Clan prodigy. Their relationship is strained by her contempt for his book-reading and her aggressive stance toward Li Qingshan. 379 381 389
  • Kong Bin / Kong Xun — Younger brother. Kong Yang is fiercely protective of him and is enraged when Ye Hao changes Kong Bin’s name to Kong Xun. 417
  • Che Yufei — A fellow prominent prodigy who sees through Kong Yang’s excuses and understands that his choices are driven by deeper motives than merit. 387 417
  • Ye Hao — Vice Minister who attempted to marginalize Kong Yang and his clan. Kong Yang outwardly complied with him at times but grew openly hostile after his family was targeted. 403 417 420
  • Niu He, Niu Chuan, and Niu Hai — Bull Demon Clan prodigies affiliated with the Shouyang Alliance; they followed Kong Yang’s leadership but pushed to retaliate against Li Qingshan. 379 389
  • Chi Wen — Worked alongside Kong Yang under Li Qingshan and praised his calm handling of high-level communications. 772

Story Role / Major Arcs

Shouyang Alliance and the Astral Rifts

Kong Yang leads the Shouyang Alliance at Fortress 13 and recruits Li Qingshan, believing the apparent newcomer to be an exceptionally “chivalrous and righteous” human willing to take scouting risks. He repeatedly sends Li into rifts first, using the alliance’s team structure to build merit. 379 382 385

Li Qingshan secretly uses these expeditions to destroy alien planets and fabricate evidence of the Great Sun Dharma Aspect. Kong Yang’s sharp observations eventually make him realize that the supposed Fei Xingye could not be responsible for the perfectly consistent traces. 381 386 389

Exposure and Reconciliation

When Li Qingshan’s identity is revealed, Kong Yang is humiliated and enraged by having been deceived for over half a year. He initially orders Kong Yin and the Niu brothers to surround Li, but ultimately dismisses their Dharma Aspects and lets him leave. 388

Kong Yang refuses to gamble on a fight after learning that Li Qingshan possesses a 108-zhang Dharma Aspect. His caution proves justified when Li Qingshan rapidly surpasses him in clearing high-risk rifts. 389 397

Despite their earlier conflict, Kong Yang returns to the Ten-Thousand-Meter Rift to rescue Li Qingshan during the Heavenly Demon incident. Li subsequently recognizes him as a comrade, and Kong Yang later insists that gifts to Li should be treated as sincere thanks for saving the alliance members’ lives. 400 403

Conflict with Ye Hao

Ye Hao attempts to prevent Kong Yang from using the Seventh-Grade Lightning Pool and reveals that Kong Yang’s status as an alien advanced-studies student has been revoked. Li Qingshan, Suo Hanchuan, and several commanders challenge Ye Hao’s decision, with Li inviting Kong Yang into the Evil Slaying Department. 420

Kong Yang’s conflict with Ye Hao becomes deeply personal after Kongyu Clan members receive eviction notices and Kong Bin is renamed Kong Xun under Ye Hao’s influence. Kong Yang’s reaction reveals that his actions in the rifts were tied to protecting his family, not merely gaining merit. 417

Evil Slaying Department Service

As Li Qingshan’s subordinate, Kong Yang becomes central to the department’s intelligence operations. He organizes surveillance reports on Evil God Cultists, Panlong’s suspected travel palaces, smuggling operations, and the Eagle Beak Group. 477 493

He later advises Li Qingshan on the consequences of cosmic-matter shortages and remains a close working partner during the Panlong investigation. 525

Secretary to the Formless General

After Li Qingshan’s rise, Kong Yang eagerly agrees to leave his homeland and continue serving as his secretary. His responsibilities expand from a district office to managing contacts across the Four Saints Galaxy, where he remains composed before Ninth-Order figures. 768 772

Notable Quotes

“What I came to the human race to learn isn't just martial arts—more importantly, it's how to ‘be human.’” 420

“Technology? Martial Dao? Mecha? … These are just the ‘fruits,’ not the ‘roots’!” 381

“For the better part of a year, Li Qingshan has managed to fake the traces of the ‘Great Sun Dharma Aspect’ every single time, without a single flaw!” 389

Trivia

  • Kong Yang’s long-term reading habit repeatedly irritates Kong Yin, who considers ancient human books useless compared with martial cultivation. 381 389
  • He used the human story The Foolish Old Man Moves the Mountains as an ideal for overcoming prejudice between humans and aliens. 378
  • The meaning of his brother’s imposed name, “Xun,” deeply offends him: it signifies instruction, admonition, restraint, and submission to edification. 417
