Background / History

Okkotsu previously had a cursed spirit named Rika attached to him. Gojo protected both of them rather than killing either, and they eventually resolved the problem together. Okkotsu later draws on this experience when Mishima asks him to kill the potentially dangerous spirit inhabiting his body 26.

His bond with Rika also becomes Gu Yanzhi’s model for understanding his own attachment to Mishima. Gu calls their arrangement a “homegrown Yuta Okkotsu,” comparing the boy-and-curse partnership to Okkotsu’s earlier situation 21.

Appearance

  • Black hair and white clothing: Introduced atop a collapsing shikigami, wearing white and carrying a katana 25.
  • Pink cursed energy: His immense reserves visibly rise around him like a pillar of light 25.
  • Snake Eyes and Fangs markings: Appear at the corners of his mouth when he activates Cursed Speech 26 43.
  • Battle damage: His white uniform becomes torn, dusty, and bloodstained during the Sendai fighting; scorched marks remain on his arms when he returns to rescue Uro 30.

Personality

Okkotsu is gentle toward frightened civilians and vulnerable children. He crouches to Mishima’s eye level, listens to his request, and recognizes that Gu has helped him rather than treating the attached curse as an automatic enemy. His invitation to Jujutsu High follows Gojo’s example of protecting people caught in dangerous supernatural bonds 26.

His compassion does not prevent decisive action. When Gu’s theft of cursed tools throws the group into confusion, Okkotsu insists that defeating Sukuna remains their immediate priority. He also volunteers to finish Kenjaku and contain the resulting cursed-spirit outbreak before accepting a revised assignment 40 42.

Okkotsu holds himself to Gojo’s standard and is prone to self-reproach when he cannot save everyone. He blames his delayed arrival for the injuries sustained in Sendai and later holds himself responsible after Gu dies fighting Sukuna 30 45.

Abilities & Skills

Cursed Energy and Close Combat

  • Releases enough cursed energy on arrival in Sendai to make the surrounding air tremble 25.
  • Destroys Dhruv’s giant rodent shikigami with his katana and overwhelming cursed energy 25.
  • Coordinates sword attacks with Itadori’s punches to occupy Sukuna’s hands in close combat 43.
  • Uses cursed-energy defenses, together with Gu’s cursed-tool cover, to survive part of Sukuna’s Furnace blast 43.
  • His reserves exceed those of Kurourushi, whom Gu describes as above average among Special Grade cursed spirits 31.

Copied Cursed Techniques

Okkotsu uses copied techniques directly and through the blades generated by Authentic Mutual Love 43.

Technique Documented use Limitation or result
Cursed Speech Commands Dhruv’s shikigami to “Die” and later orders Sukuna not to move 26 43. The lethal command strains his throat; he considers simpler commands preferable. Sukuna eventually breaks free of the restraint 26 43.
Dhruv Lakdawalla’s technique Enables Rika’s attack to pass through Sukuna’s defensive slashes 43. Extends domain-like effects along shikigami attack paths, bypassing conventional defenses 43.
Jacob’s Ladder Selected as Authentic Mutual Love’s sure-hit effect against Sukuna 43. Sukuna counters it with Hollow Wicker Basket 43.
Cleave Activates slashes inside Sukuna’s body by touching the stump of his severed arm 43. Sukuna withstands the attack and subsequently restores his limbs 43.
Object Manipulation Suspends domain blades, activates their techniques, and combines with Gu’s restraint against Sukuna 43. Their combined force disrupts Sukuna’s hand sign and chant, but he escapes the restraint 43.
Deadly Sentencing Conducts a second trial of Sukuna 43 44. Its randomly selected charge produces confiscation of most of Sukuna’s cursed energy, but no death sentence or Executioner’s Sword 44.

Domain Expansion: Authentic Mutual Love

  • Creates a battlefield filled with blades, each representing a copied cursed technique 43.
  • Uses Jacob’s Ladder as its sure-hit attack, forcing Sukuna to maintain Hollow Wicker Basket with two hands 43.
  • The occupied hands make it harder for Sukuna to use his world-cutting slash and newly modified Furnace attack 43.
  • After copying Object Manipulation, Okkotsu can activate several blade-contained techniques without relying solely on physically wielding one blade at a time 43.
  • Malevolent Shrine ultimately destroys the domain and leaves his cursed technique burned out 44.

Reverse Cursed Technique

  • Outputs healing energy into an injured child while carrying them to safety 30.
  • Offers to heal Uro after saving her from Kurourushi 30.
  • Rapidly repairs burns on his chest and arms after Sukuna’s Furnace attack 43.
  • Participates in soul-swap training with Gu, though Gu fails to learn Reverse Cursed Technique from him 40.

Rika Partnership

  • Calls Rika into combat upon arriving in Sendai 25 26.
  • Rika crushes two pterosaur shikigami in her hands 26.
  • Their coordinated attack against Sukuna severs his right arm and shoulder after Gu supplies the appropriate technique-bearing blade 43.
  • Rika provides storage space for cursed tools and Okkotsu’s annotated legal code 44.
  • Deploys Simple Domain when Malevolent Shrine overwhelms his domain 44.
  • Studies law with Higuruma for a month to prepare for using the copied courtroom technique 44.
  • Consults a legal code containing Higuruma’s notes on provisions and defense strategies during Sukuna’s second trial 44.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Katana / Samurai Sword — His regular weapon, used against Dhruv’s shikigami, Kurourushi’s swarm, and Sukuna 25 30 43.
  • Authentic Mutual Love’s blades — Domain-generated weapons containing randomly assigned copied techniques; Object Manipulation allows him to control and activate several together 43.
  • Executioner’s Sword — Briefly receives Higuruma’s sword and thrusts it toward Sukuna’s back; Sukuna counters with Furnace before the attack succeeds 42.
  • Annotated legal code — Stored with Rika and retrieved during Deadly Sentencing; includes Higuruma’s legal interpretations and defense notes 44.

Relationships

  • Rika — Cursed-spirit companion and combat partner. Their earlier bond informs his response to Mishima’s predicament 26 43.
  • Satoru Gojo — Teacher and personal example. Okkotsu admires his strength and attempts to follow his protective approach 26 30.
  • Mishima Yuto — A boy he offers to bring to Jujutsu High. He refuses to assume Mishima’s attached spirit must be killed simply because it could become dangerous 26.
  • Gu Yanzhi — Initially approached through Mishima, later a battlefield ally. They coordinate copied techniques and telekinetic restraints against Sukuna; Okkotsu blames himself after Gu’s death 26 43 45.
  • Yuji Itadori — Frontline ally against Sukuna. Okkotsu’s swordsmanship and copied techniques create openings for Itadori’s Black Flashes 43.
  • Hiromi Higuruma — Legal instructor and source of the copied Deadly Sentencing technique. Their plan also involves transferring the Executioner’s Sword to Okkotsu 42 44.
  • Takako Uro — Saves her from Kurourushi and offers healing in exchange for her Culling Game points; she accepts 30.
  • Ryomen Sukuna — Principal battlefield opponent during the Shinjuku fighting 42 43 44.
  • Kenjaku — Intended assassination target before Gu takes over the finishing role, leaving Okkotsu available against Sukuna 40.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Sendai Colony

Gu directs Mishima toward Okkotsu because he believes the sorcerer can protect civilians and safely deal with Gu’s returning bloodlust. Okkotsu arrives during Dhruv’s encirclement, destroys the giant rodent shikigami, and joins Rika in dismantling the aerial attackers 21 22 25 26.

Rather than immediately pursuing the retreating shikigami, he reassures civilians beneath a bridge. After hearing Mishima’s request, he offers help instead of executing Gu and leaves to confront Dhruv 26.

Okkotsu later returns after another combatant delays him. He saves Uro from Kurourushi while healing an injured child, asks Uro to transfer her points, and tries to address the spirit as “Mr. Gu.” Its lack of recognition confirms that Gu is gone; Okkotsu apologizes before facing the purely predatory curse 30.

Preparing for the Shinjuku Showdown

Okkotsu announces Angel’s awakening and supports prioritizing Gojo’s release over arguments about Gu joining the group. During subsequent planning, he volunteers to kill Kenjaku and stop the cursed spirits released by his death. The group ultimately assigns that task to Gu, whose barriers offer a better means of containing every escaping spirit 38 39 40.

He also prepares for a fallback trial against Sukuna by studying law with Higuruma, while Gu unsuccessfully attempts to learn Reverse Cursed Technique from him through soul swapping 40 44.

Battle Against Sukuna

Despite suspicions surrounding Gu’s stolen cursed tools, Okkotsu commits to the Sukuna battle. He protects Higuruma, receives the Executioner’s Sword, and attempts a killing thrust before Sukuna unleashes Furnace. Gu’s arrival and cursed-tool formation protect the fighters from the blast 42.

Okkotsu then opens Authentic Mutual Love and fights alongside Itadori, Rika, and Gu. Copying Object Manipulation transforms his domain blades into a remotely controlled array of techniques. When Sukuna targets the weakened Gu, Okkotsu interrupts with Deadly Sentencing 43.

The second trial fails to produce the desired death sentence. Sukuna overwhelms Okkotsu’s domain with Malevolent Shrine, forcing him to use Simple Domain before Gu pushes him and Itadori beyond the slashes’ range. Gu dies in the ensuing confrontation, leaving Okkotsu guilt-stricken 44 45.
