"What is this?! What's happening inside the Curtain? The presence of curses has grown so much stronger."
Outside the barrier covering the school, the instant the special grade imaginary vengeful spirit manifested, a cold, oppressive aura of curses seeped faintly through the Curtain. The sheer intensity made Kiyotaka Ijichi's chest tighten.
"Dai Li still hasn't come out. A cursed spirit of an extremely high grade must have appeared."
The being Dai Li was facing was terrifying. Even a second's delay on Ijichi's part could cost him his life.
Not daring to hesitate, Ijichi immediately pulled out his phone and dialed Satoru Gojo's number.
The moment the call connected, a leisurely voice drifted through. "Hello, hello. Is that Ijichi? Has Dai Li finished his Jujutsu field training too? He's pretty..."
"A special grade cursed spirit suddenly appeared where Dai Li is! Right at his field training site."
Before Gojo could finish, Kiyotaka Ijichi cut him off.
"Please get here as quickly as you can. This special grade cursed spirit's aura is far stronger than normal."
Cold sweat streamed down Kiyotaka Ijichi's face. He desperately hoped Dai Li could hold on until Satoru Gojo arrived, that he wouldn't die.
"Understood. I'm taking the unconscious Okkottsu and Maki back to Jujutsu High for treatment right now, along with two children affected by cursed spirits. I'll head over as soon as I get there."
"Relax. Dai Li is strong. He won't die that easily. Keep the call connected for now and update me whenever anything happens."
Satoru Gojo told Kiyotaka Ijichi to move away from the scene and observe from a distance while reporting to him. A curse on the level of a special grade cursed spirit could be sensed even from far away.
His gaze grew tense behind his black-framed glasses, and his hands unconsciously clasped in front of him, his fingers locking together.
I've done everything I can. Please survive, Dai Li.
Kiyotaka Ijichi lowered his head slightly, his breathing slowing as he silently prayed.
Just then, the aura of curses seeping out of the Teaching Building fell silent and dissipated without warning.
The oppressive curse that had lingered moments before vanished abruptly, as though someone had severed it with a single slash. Within the barrier, there seemed to be nothing left but silence and a gentle breeze.
The outer surface of the Curtain rippled softly, and a figure slowly stepped through the barrier.
Ijichi jerked his head up, his eyes behind his black-framed glasses fixed on the entrance to the Curtain, his heart in his throat.
It was Dai Li. He had come out of the Curtain.
His Jujutsu High uniform was torn in several places. Dark red trails of blood ran down his arm and soaked into his trousers, while droplets kept falling from his fingertips.
His face was deathly pale, and all his strength had drained away. He supported his left arm with his right hand, barely managing to stay upright.
I didn't expect the cursed energy spikes that pierced me inside the domain to keep damaging me. Without Falling Blossom Emotion to block them, just a few hits were more than I could take.
Dai Li watched Kiyotaka Ijichi rush toward him and forced a hoarse, muffled voice through his teeth:
"Don't panic... I've already exorcised the special grade imaginary vengeful spirit inside."
When Ijichi saw the large bloodstains soaking Dai Li's clothes, his face instantly went white. He immediately fetched the bandages, gauze, alcohol, and other medical supplies from the car to administer first aid.
What a terrifying curse. If I accidentally touch it, it'll latch onto me too.
As Ijichi treated Dai Li's injuries, the curse clinging to him left Ijichi shocked. The opponent Dai Li had faced might have been more than an ordinary special grade cursed spirit-it might even have been an evolved one.
"I've got a rough idea of what happened. Can Dai Li still get up, Ijichi?"
Satoru Gojo's voice came through the phone, which was still connected.
"No problem. Just take me back to Jujutsu High for Miss Shoko to treat me."
After confirming that Dai Li could hold on a while longer, Ijichi helped him into the car and drove straight back to Jujutsu High so Shoko Ieiri could treat him.
After receiving some treatment from Shoko Ieiri, Dai Li was fully conscious again.
Satoru Gojo arrived shortly afterward.
"It's not often you look this rough. Let me take a few pictures to show Maki and the others."
Satoru Gojo pulled out his phone and snapped picture after picture of Dai Li, who was still sitting on the operating table.
"You white-haired bastard, stop taking pictures!"
Dai Li felt that only a saint could resist swearing at Satoru Gojo over this.
Faced with his student's fierce protests, Satoru Gojo only doubled down, taking pictures from even more angles and even turning on the flash.
"That's enough already. Didn't Maki and Okkotsu get hurt too?"
"But their injuries are nothing compared to yours. What on earth did you run into that left you this badly hurt?"
After forwarding Dai Li's photos to the class group chat, Satoru Gojo adopted a serious expression and questioned him.
"A special grade imaginary vengeful spirit that could use Domain Expansion."
"A cursed spirit that could use Domain Expansion? Seriously?"
"Yeah, seriously."
Satoru Gojo's surprise was only natural. After all, the special grade cursed spirit Dai Li had inadvertently drawn out was currently the only cursed spirit in Jujutsu Society known to have used Domain Expansion. Even someone like Satoru Gojo, who exorcised special grade cursed spirits every day, had yet to encounter one capable of a complete Domain Expansion.
"Its Domain Expansion was complete, with a guaranteed hit and a guaranteed kill. Without Falling Blossom Emotion, I couldn't possibly have survived, let alone exorcised that special grade cursed spirit."
"So you used Life and Binding?"
"Yes, of course. There was no way I could learn Falling Blossom Emotion on the spot from just what you'd explained to me before. Using my own cursed technique was my only chance of survival."
After a few brief questions, Satoru Gojo called Ijichi over to fill out the incident report. He deliberately glossed over certain details, however, recording Dai Li's ability to use Falling Blossom Emotion as follows:
Thanks to his exceptional talent in Barrier Techniques and Satoru Gojo's excellent instruction, he successfully learned Falling Blossom Emotion, the domain countermeasure secretly passed down among the Three Great Families, within two months.
Ultimately, he used this domain countermeasure to successfully exorcise the special grade imaginary vengeful spirit, Miss Delia. She had poured most of her cursed energy into her attacks, leaving her defenses weak. When her innate domain finally collapsed, Grade 2 Sorcerer Dai Li seized the opportunity and successfully exorcised her.
"Please take a look. How does this sound?"
"Barring anything unexpected, this report will become a highly confidential special grade classified file once it's submitted."
Ijichi wrote the report with remarkable efficiency. With just a few words from Satoru Gojo and Dai Li, he organized the entire incident into a clear, orderly account.
Satoru Gojo didn't look at the report at all-not out of laziness, but because he trusted Kiyotaka Ijichi completely and recognized his outstanding competence.
"Next, I'll ask two Grade 1 Sorcerers to recommend you for promotion to Grade 1 Sorcerer. With an achievement as impressive as exorcising a special grade cursed spirit that had mastered Domain Expansion, the higher-ups won't have any objections."
"What do you think, Dai Li?"
Becoming a Grade 1 Sorcerer meant he could accept missions to exorcise special grade cursed spirits and continue improving his strength through Life and Binding: Tempering.
The dangers, classified information, and even pay available to Grade 1 Sorcerers were worlds apart from those available to anyone below Semi-Grade 1.
