Appearance
- Hair and eyes: Short pink hair and crimson eyes 7.
- Curse markings: Fierce black patterns across his cheeks and muscular body 7 26.
- Unusual anatomy: Two faces, four arms, and enormous mouths on his abdomen. The additional arms grow beneath his armpits and can be concealed inside his clothing 20 26.
- Clothing: Wears a white kimono, which remains unstained even after massacres. He tears it off before fighting Angel 7 26.
- Voice: Deep and sharp, carrying an intimidating sense of pressure 38.
Personality
Sukuna is ruthless, contemptuous, and readily entertained by violence. He calls opposing sorcerers “small fry,” dismisses numerical superiority, and deliberately allows a report of his killings to escape so that more “ingredients” will come to him. He also rejects conventional restraints on combat, killing a war envoy before accepting the declaration 20 25 34.
His overwhelming strength leaves him bored rather than anxious about danger. He enjoys challenging strong opponents and seeks Yamata no Orochi after hearing that it uses positive energy. Nanika’s wish-granting offers little temptation: the narration explains that anything he wants is already within easy reach 22 32 34.
His treatment of Alluka combines rejection, possessiveness, and protection without affectionate reassurance. He initially abandons her, later takes her from the Fujiwara Clan, and continues to insult her weakness. When she and Nanika are sealed, however, he experiences an unfamiliar surge of murderous anger. The narration explicitly contrasts Alluka’s inability to understand hatred with Sukuna’s inability to feel love 7 29 32 38.
Abilities & Skills
Invisible Slashing Technique
- Produces unseen blades capable of dismembering people and destroying cursed beings 6 20.
- Can cut precisely enough to sever Alluka’s restraints without taking her along 7.
- Releases dense, widespread barrages that cleave through sorcerers, trees, houses, and rocks 25.
- Kills the leading war envoy with a casual glance, then slaughters the accompanying sorcerers when they attack 34.
Domain and Named Slashes
- Possesses a domain associated with Cleave and Dismantle. Uraume warns Alluka to flee from it because its indiscriminate attacks would slice her apart 35.
- Does not deploy his domain against Angel and the allied Abe and Sugawara forces, defeating them with his cursed tools instead 26.
- By refusing a domain clash, avoids the sequence Angel had anticipated: a clash followed by cursed-technique burnout, during which her allies would attack 26.
Four-Armed Combat and Incantations
- Uses his additional arms to form hand signs while unleashing slashes 20.
- His abdominal mouths can chant simultaneously to increase his technique’s output 26.
- During his exchange with Angel, an additional arm catches her wing immediately after she evades his first attack 26.
Physical Power and Combat Awareness
- Overwhelms elite sorcerers from multiple clans, reducing their battlefield to an enormous crater 26.
- Reads opponents’ movements and openings with little effort; the war envoys’ attacks appear slow to him 34.
- Returns from the later mass subjugation campaign without a single wound 38.
- Exerts killing intent strong enough to make the Fujiwara elders’ skin sting and their bodies tremble 29.
Perception of Nanika
- Detects the unusual presence inside Alluka during their first encounter 7.
- Identifies Nanika’s cursed energy as the force responsible for the Rope People 31.
- Remains untroubled by Nanika’s manifestation, despite its sinister energy making Uraume physically uncomfortable 31.
Barrier Technique
- Places a protective barrier around the room where Alluka and Uraume remain during the decisive battle 35.
- The barrier does not prevent Sugawara Satoru from breaking in 35.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Hiten — A cursed tool resembling Guanyin’s sacred halberd, with a white banner attached. Its technique helps Sukuna reach Angel’s airborne position within a few breaths 26.
- Kamutoke — A vajra-shaped cursed tool that changes the properties of cursed energy. In Sukuna’s grip, it gives his energy the properties of lightning 26.
- Prison Realm — Takes possession of the bloodstained cube after it seals Alluka’s body and Nanika. It had originally been intended as a means of sealing Sukuna himself 38.
- Drinking vessels — Owns a favored set that Uraume considers recovering after Nanika’s delivery of meat buries their residence 34.
- Sukuna’s fingers — Collected periodically by Uraume in the modern era 40.
Relationships
- Alluka — Younger twin sibling. Her trust contrasts with his disdain for her frailty; his later protection and anger over her fate reveal an attachment he does not express as affection 7 29 32 38.
- Nanika — Alluka’s other presence, whom Alluka calls her little sister. Nanika recognizes Sukuna as Brother and senses neither dislike nor hatred from him; he declines her offer to grant a wish 29 31.
- Uraume — Loyal attendant and cook. Sukuna keeps him nearby for his unusual cooking skills rather than his strength, and entrusts Alluka to his care 29 30.
- Angel — Hostile sorcerer who calls him “The Fallen.” After escaping an earlier encounter with grave injuries, she returns determined to kill him 26.
- Kenjaku — Visits Sukuna with information about the gathering opposition. Sukuna objects to his scrutiny of Alluka and laughs when Alluka’s questions make him uncomfortable 31 32.
- Fujiwara Clan — Political enemies who blame him for Rope Person incidents, send elite forces against him, and attempt to use Alluka and Nanika to eliminate him 21 25 27.
- The Fujiwara woman wielding liquid metal — Becomes infatuated with him at the Daijō-sai and claims she can ease his loneliness. Sukuna wounds her after she attacks Alluka and responds to her declaration by asking who she is 30.
- Yuji Itadori — Intended vessel in Kenjaku’s plan. Kenjaku worries that shared talent between twins might impair the vessel’s ability to suppress Sukuna; Uraume later protects Yuji partly because of this role 2 41.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Encounter with Alluka
Sukuna appears at the ruined family estate after Alluka’s brother Kirei and their father have been killed by an unseen force. He slaughters the fleeing attendants with invisible slashes and destroys the monstrous beings emerging nearby. Alluka studies his two-faced appearance and recognizes him as her older brother rather than reacting with fear 6.
He examines her and notices the presence within her, but considers her body too weak to bring along. Although he cuts her wrist restraints, he leaves without introducing himself or answering her calls. Alluka remains alone among the corpses until a Sugawara scouting party finds her 7.
Uraume and the Demon God Reputation
By the snowy-village encounter, Uraume accompanies Sukuna and serves him deferentially. Their association follows Sukuna’s intervention against the transformed Sugawara Kazukazu, which Uraume later credits with saving his life. In the village, Sukuna destroys the Rope Person corpses and massacres investigating Fujiwara warriors, deliberately allowing their final message to escape 20 32.
The Fujiwara Clan’s repeated wishes create further Rope Person incidents, but Sukuna receives the blame. Frightened villagers worship him as a demon god and offer human sacrifices, while sorcerers attack him as the supposed culprit. He finds the false accusations amusing and postpones his search for Yamata no Orochi to retrieve what he calls his own 22.
Defeat of the Allied Clans
The Fujiwara, Abe, and Sugawara clans assemble a subjugation force. Sukuna meets the attackers with amusement, then devastates the Fujiwara elites through waves of slashes. Takako Uro escapes, becoming the sole survivor of the Fujiwara Clan’s two elite squads 25 27.
Angel subsequently confronts him alongside the Abe elites and the reformed Neeshi Suppression Squad. Sukuna uses Hiten and Kamutoke rather than his domain, battering the combatants into rubble. He notices an escapee but considers them too insignificant to pursue; the other fighters’ individual fates are left uncertain 26.
Retrieval of Alluka
After military defeat, Fujiwara Michimitsu arranges for Alluka and Nanika to eliminate Sukuna during the harvest festival. Sukuna is meanwhile installed as an object of worship at the Emperor’s first-year Daijō-sai, a ceremony altered because of the officials’ fear of him 27 28.
He leaves the imperial ceremony and appears above the Fujiwara ritual. Nanika recognizes him, exposing Alluka’s sibling relationship to the terrified elders. Sukuna carries Alluka away, kills the gathered clan members, and orders Uraume to take her 29.
The following day, he wounds the liquid-metal attacker threatening Alluka and kills a Fujiwara squad attempting to recover its missing “divine child.” He then meets Nanika directly, declines her offered wish, and leaves the capital with Alluka and Uraume 30 31.
Wish-Granting Rumors and Renewed War
Unable to reclaim Alluka, the Fujiwara Clan spreads news of her ability while concealing its equivalent-exchange cost. The prospect of obtaining her power draws more opponents toward Sukuna. He remains uninterested in exploiting wishes and leaves to seek Yamata no Orochi 31 32.
Uraume’s wish for the tastiest meat accidentally causes Nanika to transfer the meat from Heian-kyō’s noble households to Sukuna’s residence. The incident reinforces the opposing sorcerers’ belief that Sukuna is using Alluka against them. Returning early, he kills their envoy, accepts the coming confrontation, and massacres the remaining messengers 32 33 34.
Alluka’s Death and Nanika’s Sealing
Sukuna leaves Alluka and Uraume behind for the decisive campaign, regarding both as liabilities in battle. During his absence, Sugawara Satoru breaches their room’s barrier, while Tengen and Kenjaku pursue their own plans involving Alluka 35 37.
Tengen cuts Alluka’s throat, triggering Nanika’s emergence in an enormous cursed-spirit form. Nanika’s retaliation destroys Tengen’s body, Kenjaku’s abandoned body, and Satoru. The Prison Realm then seals Nanika together with Alluka’s body 37 38.
Sukuna returns unharmed and takes the cube. After hearing Uraume’s account, he feels intense murderous anger, catches and discards a rain-soaked note, and departs to “clear out” the remaining opponents 38.
Modern-Era Legacy
In the modern era, Kenjaku prepares a vessel using material connected to Sukuna. Uraume continues collecting Sukuna’s fingers while helping care for Alluka and Yuji, and regards Yuji’s safety as important to his role as Sukuna’s vessel 2 40 41.
